How can I access the data on my time capsule remotely?

I see the drive under the shared tab in Finder, but I cannot open it.  I am at school and need to access documents that are stored on my time capsule at home.  When I set everything up, I enabled "sharing over WAN" and everything and set up the password access. The software is up to date. How can I get into my drive? I tried logging into icloud.com, but the only apps I see are the standard contacts, notes, etc. HELP!!!!!!!

You need to follow the BTMM via icloud instructions.

There are plenty of other ways to do it.. but issues to do with Apple not using a dynamic DNS client so if your ISP does not allocate you a static public IP there is no way to find it, if the public ip rotates as they are designed to do hourly or daily.
Do a google search, remote access time capsule..
Or use the more like this on the right hand side... there are plenty of posts and even youtube video which go right through it.
BTW your school system may simply block the port.. if I was a school IT admin.. I would. You are dragging files across to the internal school network bypassing the firewall.. that is unacceptable risk to the whole school system.

Do you mean copy it?  If so, see #18 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions  You'll need section 2 there.
If you mean something else, please clarify.

  • How can I access the files on my time capsule?

I bought this thinking it could be used as additional storage, like a hard drive only wirelessly.  It appears to be functioning as backup but I don't know how to access the files to see if it actually is.  Any advice?  When I click on time machine in the finder it just takes me to a folder that says Data with no entry for date modified.  Yet elsewhere it tells me it has been backing up every half hour or so.  Whats the deal?

You do not access the backup file store directly.. you access it via Time Machine.. the files are not stored in a way you would directly access anyway.. all files are stored as a backup in a very complex structure.
Read Q14-17 on how to use restore to get files out of the TM backup.

If you want to access files on the TC, copy them directly to the TC .. don't use backups as a method of access to other devices.

  • I Can't access the data on my Time Capsule

Everytime I try to access my data from my MacBook Pro running 10.8, my finder window closes.  I tried attaching my laptop using an ethernet cable and resetting the time capsule, but my problem persists.
    Any advice?

Did you copy the stuff across before you upgraded to ML?? Or did you do this from ML?
Did you do a full factory reset? That might help.. also do not use both wireless and wired connection at the same time.
There are some issues with ML recognising the TC .. but I refuse to upgrade.. to such a poor networking OS.
You might have to do some devious stuff to get at your files.. Like connect it to a Mac still running a decent networking OS.

  • I can't access the disk on my time capsule

I have a mocbook pro and a 2tb time capsule that was bought abut a month and a half ago, it's fully updated and so is my macbook but I can't access the hard disk. Is there a way in which I can access it without having to completely like reformat it?

Not sure what you mean by access the hard disk.
Are you asking about Time Machine backups from your Mac to the Time Capsule?
If yes, click the Time Machine clock icon on the dock and wait a few minutes for the Time Machine "Star Wars" interface to fully load.
Use the scale at the right of the window to select the date of a recent backup that you want to see
Then, use the Finder like interface to navigate and find the file(s) that you want to see
Click Restore at the lower right if you want to Restore the file to the present, otherwise click Cancel to close Time Machine and return to the present time.
Is there a way in which I can access it without having to completely like reformat it?
Reformatting the Time Capsule will erase alll fo the data on the drive and wipe it clean.

  • How can I change the settings in my time capsule to support UPnP?

Trying to change the settings on my time capsule to support UPnP so I might remotely access 3rd party software.  Any suggestions?

Apple routers do not support UPnP.  They do support NAT-PMP, but that requires that you manually enter in the port values to set up what is known as Port Mapping.
But, first things first. is the Time Capsule set up as the DHCP and NAT router for the network, or do you have another router upstream from the Time Capsule on the network?
Another way to ask the same question......what is the make and model number of the device that you call your "modem"?

  • Satellite U400-124 - Vista don't boot so how can I access the data?

I have a problem with my U400-124 when it loads Vista. It has a blue screen error when trying to start windows. It comes up with the boot repair program but that does not work. Therefore I have a question, unless someone can help with the above.
I have the restore discs but I have to get some data off the hard drive. Is it possible to remove the hard drive, place in an external case and copy the data I need. Then place the hard drive back in and start the restore process?
    Many thanks in advance.

Yes, this is no problem and you can do this.
I did the same on my Satellite notebook. Its pretty easy because the HDD is removed in few minutes and so I can backup all my data on my other notebook.
Such USB 2.5 SATA HDD adaptors are not expensive. Ask your local computer dealer or search on eBay. I bought my adaptor from eBay.
    Good luck!

  • How can I add the date next to time in menu bar?

Hi, I'd like to see today's date next to the "time" on the right-hand side of the menubar. I called Apple tech support twice about it and no one could help. The last guy suggested I post the question here, and someone might know of a third-party app... I don't want a calendar on my desktop, I don't want to click anything to see the date. I want it in the menubar with the time. It would be so handy.

SOOO AWESOME -- THANK YOU! I spent over an hour on the phone with two different tech support people and they said it couldn't be done. Have to admit it's sort of a dodgy workaround, but thanks for the link, V.K, I am SO pleased! I was even able to add a couple of extra spaces to keep the time and date spaced apart. (Maybe the next OS can resolve this in a simpler manner...)

  • How do I restore the data from my time capsule to the new mac book pro

Take a look at Migration Assistant, in the /Applications/Utilities folder.  You can use a Time Machine backup to restore your data files.

  • How can I view/copy data from one Time Capsule backup to another computer

My MBP and MB both back up to Time Capsule. From the MBP I can see it's data on TC via my network but not the backed up data from the MacBook. How can I view and import MB data to my MBP from Time Capsule via AirPort? Thanks!

Is the backup software Time Machine??
You can open the TM backup as long as you haven't used profiles to backup. Or encypted it in latest Mountain Lion.
    See Q17 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
You should read through all the stuff about using TM.. and restore in particular.. 14-18.

  • Can I access my data on my Time Capsule with my iPad without my laptop

I Recently sold my Mac Book; had all my information backed up to my Time Capsule, can my data be accessed with my iPad or do I need a new laptop?

If it was backed up with Time Machine, you have to have Time Machine to restore it.
Only Mac has TM.. so you need a Mac of some sort to restore it.. you can restore it to a disk.. and then access that over the network from ipad.. but of course your itunes library etc is still completely blocked to you.

  • How can I view the files on my Time Capsule without using Time Machine?

In the past Time Machine was backing up to a regular external disc and I could view the files easily. I'm new to the Time Capsule and not sure this is possible as I can't "find" the Time Capsule disc.
    Thanks for any tips

The Time Capsule's drive appears as a network drive, so it doesn't show up as an external drive.
To access to it, first make sure you are connected to the Time Capsule. Then, open a Finder window and you will see the Time Capsule's drive in the sidebar, under "Shared". Select it and you will be able to access to the files stored in the Time Capsule

  • How can you extend the signal range of time capsule

I have a time capsule in my office down stairs, and my apple tv upstairs, but the signal strength is very week (only one bar) so when I try to stream a movie is very slow. There is some thing I can do or buy to make the signal stronger??
    Thank you.

You can add an AirPort Extreme to "extend a wireless network" to improve the wireless signal. Locate the AirPort Extreme approximately half way between the Time Capsule and the Apple TV.
    Setup instructions are here:
