How can I activate my iphone although the previous apple id is mine?

I bought an iphone 5 on amazon and used it for nearly 2 month. But it isnt fit with my company, so I sold it to my friend. He restored it and it needed my apple id to activated. But when I typed in, it said my apple id couldnt used to activated this phone, although I was the one who set up it first.

I am having a similar problem. I am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with apple authentication right now.

So the trick here is at what point are you getting stuck? You'll know whether or not you can use the device after you've restored it in iTunes. If the previous owner had not removed their iCloud account (or turned off Find My iPhone) before you do this, then the phone is forced into Activation Lock (which you'll likely see after restoring the device, upon setting it up). If this is the case, you either HAVE to contact the previous owner and have them help you type in their password or remove the phone from their iCloud account by logging into iCloud.com, or if you can provide valid proof of purchase you may be able to get support through AppleCare or an Apple Store. Sorry, you can't. If your phone is carrier locked, you will need a sim card from that carrier, to activate it.

You have to delete the old account, provide the password for the ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. This deletes the account and your iCloud data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account, your iCloud data will reappear on your device when you sign back in.

I got an iphone 4 from my brother in US,phone was officially unlocked after the expiry of contract,i used it for sometime
when my brother tried to remove it from his iclod id the phone is asking to reactivate and needs username and id of the previous owner i.e my brother but we have tried all the ids and passwords and are not working

Your brother has to remember his Apple ID and password...which will be the same as the iCloud account uses. To activate, you can also have your brother login to his iCloud account and if the iPhone is listed, send an erase signal. That will completely erase his information and you can enter your own.

Unfortunately, you cannot do very much with your phone unless you get assistance from the previous owner, they should either provide you with the password to unlock it or remove their account from the phone entirely remotely through iCloud.com > Find My Phone.
