How can I add comments to an iPhoto slide show that will appear onscreen?

I have put together a slide show on iPhoto (6.0.6) and I'd like to have a line of text appear with several of the slides - things like "Beginning our hike - " and "Closing ceremonies". I haven't been able to find anything in the help to describe how to do that - can it be done? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There's an AppleScript that will take the contents of the comments field and put them in the Title field so they will display on a slideshow. When you're done you can use the Batch Change menu option to revert the Title to the file names. See my post here for the link to the script: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5400478&#5400478
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I've gotten a little further on this. The dynamic select is

  • How can you add comments to a text file while using a Digital Waveform vi?

Hi. I'm very new to Labview. I have a txt file of 1's and 0's wired to a "read from text file" which is then wired to a "spreadsheet string to digital.vi" ("digital waveform") and lastly to a graph. I want to add notes to the txt file that will not be read in the digital waveform. i.e. Like how you use // or /* in a C++ program to show that you are writing a comment and not code.
    Labview version: 8.5
    Thank you

You will just need in your text file a line at a time.  Search the string for the characters // or /*.  If it finds them, then loop back and read another line.  If it doesn't find them, you must have a good line of data and you can pass on to the next part of your cod.

  • How can I add a description to a photo so it will be emailed with the photo?

How can I add a description to a photo that I am going to email so it will be emailed with the photo? For that matter how can I add a description to a photo that will stay with (or on?) the photo?

Add your description as you normally would. Then export the photo using the File -> Export command. In the resulting dialogue you have a number of options. If you check the box at Titles and Descriptions then these wil be written to the IPTC metadata of the files, and available in any app that understands this metadata.

  • How can I keep detailed info with a slide show?

Does anyone know a good way to keep explanatory info available with slide show images while viewing a show that's burned to dvd? (Example: Historic details about various sites visited on a trip).
I'm referring to details beyond the minimal info that can be placed in the file title. In iPhoto, such information can be entered in the Comments box, and so long as the original image is retained in the iPhoto library, I suppose that if the show on dvd is imported to and shown in iPhoto or iDVD, the detail info could be accessed, although that may necessitate interrupting the show. Is there any way to have such info readily available if the dvd were played on someone else's computer or on a TV via a dvd player?
I can see no way other than perhaps to create a separate text file, which could be burned to the same dvd and then if played on a computer, could be referred to while pausing the show or it could be printed out befpre running the show.
I suspect there's a way to record a vocal description and add it in iDVD or iMovie, but that seems like more effort than I desire for my amateur use. I believe some photo edit programs could overlay each image with text or create a separate photo image with text, but that seems like a lot of effort too, and I wouldn't want that unless it could be shown as a separate slide.

Mackerel, meet MSM. MSM, meet Mackerel. You two are peas in a pod, at least with respect to your slide show plans and needs.
What you both want to do is exactly what presentation programs like PowerPoint and Keynote are made for. You could also do a version of it in Adobe Acrobat, and you could even cobble up some sort of horrible kludgy substitute in Word or any other word processor that can hold photographs (though the resulting document would be so enormous it might handle at truly glacial speed).
What you can't do in any of these programs, or in any other that I know of, is automate the placement of a text block that's associated with each picture. That you'd have to do manually. So if you don't like work, you'll either have to find another application that does the job without you, or hand your text out in printed form.

  • Can you turn off timer on iPhoto slide show

i would like to turn timer off on I photo slide show is it possible

    Hello there, scbullard.
The online iPhoto Help menu provides some great information for changing settings on your slideshows, including the length of time a slide plays:
    iPhoto Help: Change slideshow settings
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/#pht6d9774ac
If you want to apple the change for the entire slideshow:
To change settings for an entire slideshow:
Select the slideshow in the Source list, click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click All Slides.
While a slideshow is playing, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button:
    Do one of the following:
To set the length of time each slide appears, select “Play each slide for a minimum of __ seconds,” and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds.
To play the slideshow as long as the music plays, select “Fit slideshow to music.”
To change the effect between slides, select the Transition checkbox, and then do one or both of the following:
Choose a transition from the pop-up menu. For some transitions, you can change the direction in which the effect occurs by clicking the arrows.
To change how long the transition lasts, drag the Speed slider.
Tip:  If transitions play too slowly, try decreasing your screen resolution (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Displays). Very large photos might also transition slowly; try changing the photo’s size (see Export a photo).
If you wish, specify additional slideshow settings:
To make each slide’s title, description, place, or date appear, select the Show Caption checkbox, and then choose an item from the pop-up menu.
To display slides in random order, select “Shuffle slide order.” If you don’t see this option, play the slideshow, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button.
To automatically restart the slideshow when it’s over, select “Repeat slideshow.”
To prevent black borders from appearing on photos cropped to an aspect ratio that doesn’t match the display’s, select “Scale photos to fill screen.”
Choose an option from the Aspect Ratio pop-up menu, depending on where you’ll play the slideshow. If you don’t see this option, press the Escape key on your keyboard, and then click the Settings button in the toolbar.
If you want to make the change to individual slides:
To change settings for an individual slide:
Before you change settings for specific slides, it’s best to specify the settings for the slideshow as a whole. If you specify settings for individual slides and then change options for the whole slideshow, the slideshow settings might override the individual settings.
Select the slideshow in the Source list, and then select a slide in the photo browser at the top of the iPhoto window.
Click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click This Slide at the top of the Slideshow Settings window.
Do any of the following (some options aren’t available for every slideshow theme):
To add an effect such as a sepia tint, click one of the effect thumbnails. To turn the effect off, click the thumbnail again.
To change the length of time the slide plays, select the “Play this slide for” checkbox and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds.
To change the slide’s transition effect, select the Transition checkbox and choose an option from the Transition pop-up menu. To change the transition’s duration, drag the Speed slider. For some transitions, you can also change the effect’s direction by clicking an arrow on the directional button.
Tip:  To see the transition, click the Preview photo.
To customize the slide’s pan and zoom effect, select the Ken Burns checkbox. For more information, see the task below.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How can I burn on a DVD a slide show created with iDvd ?

    Hi
When I burn that slide show on a DVD and I put the DVD in my DVD reader, conected to the television, the quality of the images become very poor.
    What's appens ??
As I see it - it falls back on that DVD is as STANDARD only Interlaced SD-Video at it's best (even commercial made ones)
The Quality You see on Your Mac is prior to this down-scaling process.
If You need higher quality (and this includes several problems)
    • DVDs can not be used
    • You can try Blu-Ray (short one on DVD disks) - BUT You also need a Blu-Ray Player as a PlayStation 3 (you also need a program that can author BD-Disks as Roxio Toast™)
    • You can try to Export as HD and to an USB-Memory stick - if You have any device that can take this
    • You can connect a Mac to a big sized flat-screen TV - and playback this way
    End of ideas.
    Yours Bengt W

  • How can I create a DVD (not CD) slide show with PSE8. Is the only option CD?

Do I need to upgrade to PSE9 for the DVD option for slide show output?

No, you can't create a video dvd with just PSE, and PSE 9 is no different from any other version where this is concerned. (Adobe wants you to use Premiere Elements.) However, if you have a DVD burner, you must have gotten some kind of software with it that can make a DVD for you. Create your slideshow, output as WMV and then use your other software to burn the actual video disc.

  • How to make a slide show that will play on a TV?

    I have a
collection of pics that I have used the slideshow module t
o create a slide show and it works great on my PC. How do
I create one that I can burn to a disk and play on a TV?
    Do I need to purchase
something else or will Lightroom3 do what I need? The slideshow that I created will play on other computers but, when I put it in a dvd player for the TV it says there is no disk in it. I have tried 4 different players. Am I missing something?
I would be very gratefull for help with this!

Alternatively, you can export a H264 mp4 from the slideshow module, dump it on a memory stick (or plain DVD) and stick it in the TV or your BluRay player
Not all Blu-ray palyers can play MP4 container video files. So this may, or may not work depending on your Blu-ray player's capabilities. ALL Blu-ray players will play H.264 AVC HD video with .MTS file format, but Lightroom 3  does not offer this as a slideshow export option.
See the 'Overview' section here for more information on the file system and folder organization:

The folder structure when using USB and SD media is different than DVD media! More information here:
