How can I add money to my iTunes account

I had a gift card which is now used up but I want to add mint to my account so I don't have to pay with every purchase. Please give me some idea if this is possible.

You can buy another iTunes gift card and redeem that onto your account - assuming that you are in the US then you can buy them from the Apple online store : iTunes gift cards. Or from a different store.
Or you could add a credit card to your account.

you just log into your account and look for the billing method section. you click there and put in your credit card number and stuff. its easy to do it from the itunes store

You can't. And you don't want to do that anyway. Setting up a new iTunes account will not help you when you want to update apps purchased under the one you can't remember the Security Questions for. You will need the password for that account to update any apps purchased under it.

If you sync your phone to a computer that his account is authorised on then you could try buying it on his account and sync it to your phone - but it will be tied to his account, so only his account will be able to download any future updates to it.

Connect the old phone to your computer, right click on it in iTunes, and choose Transfer Purchases. That should put all of your music in iTunes except any tracks that were not purchased from iTunes.
