Check in iTunes - the show may not have subtitles (the setting on AppleTV wiull not affect whether or not you downloaded a show with subtitles or not - the file either had them or didn't when you bought it).

I just reformat my laptop (OS: Windows 7 pro) and I lost all the songs, albums, and playlist listed on iTunes. I do have all the songs backed up in my external hard drive, now my problem is how can I add songs back to the iTunes by folder? Before in the previous versions of iTunes, it used to have a option to "add folder to library" or something like that. Now there is no option like that, and all I can see now is "add file to library". If I use this method, it will take up so much time to do it.

The main differences between iTunes 11 and earlier versions are the loss of coverflow and ability to have multiple windows open.
In Windows, you can restore much of the look & feel of iTunes 10.7 with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album (Grid) view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
With iTunes 11.0.3 and later you can enable artwork in the Songs view from View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) making it more like the old Album List view
View > Show View Options (CTRL+J) also contains options to change the sorting of grid based views
The two entries in red will give you access to File > Add folder to library.

And I am thinking of using iMovie08 or iMovie09 to finish my edit before my deadline of presentation. How can I add a column to show the website (web site) of an rss feed?

I've got a lot of rss feeds coming into thunderbird. I organized some into folders, but also have a folder for several rss feeds as they adress the same topics and I prefer not to browse through 25 separate folders. However, the sender doesn't always make it clear which blog it's from, so I'd like to add a column which shows the website of the rss feed. (sender is often: [email protected], and there are different writers for a single blog who themselve have their own blog as well, so can't sort on sender name either).
When opening an rss feed, it displays in the header: web site (with the space) and then the web adress. This is what I'd like to be able to see in my columns.
I didn't see an option yet to customize columns, nor did I find an addon that does this.
Does anyone know a solution?

Thanks, that seems to work. I'm struggling to place the lightbox at the top of the page however - when I click the trigger I want the menu image to display anchored to the top of the page, but there's always a gap as it centers the image. Help is appreciated!

Although i reside in Belgium ( Europe ) i have two accounts.
One has access to the US Store in iTunes, the other one is for purchases in Belgium.
I have bought several US TV Shows, but i never seem able to get dutch subtitles for these shows or movies i buy.
Is there a how-to somewhere to get the subtitles in the language that you want ?

I understand Apple prohibits the customer from manually inputting MPAA or TV ratings into the video files centrally stored in an iTunes library, as ripping DVDs is considered illegal. How can I get around this problem? Is it possible to manually manipulate the meta data outside of iTunes?
In this specific case, I would like to share content over a home network also used by children; I have no problem with them watching Harry Potter, but they need to grow a little before they want Dexter or Game of Thrones, but Apple makes this process unnecessarily cumbersome and obtuse.
I assume Apple will never permit this functionality, if only to satify copyright holders as well as protecting profits. However, I live in the Netherlands, and under Dutch law people are specifically permitted to make a limited number of copies of any copyrighted material (for personalI use only obviously, sharing remains technically illegal). The law places a small duty on all blank storage media, from old cassettes up until anything containing a hard drive (including iPod), to compensate artists and copyright holders for potential lost revenues. The total duty collected and disbursed amounts to tens of millions, and I imagine Apple also benefits (if ever so slightly). Therefore, under Dutch jurisdiction, I should be able to manipulate ripped versions of legally obtained video material all I want, as I wholly own the copies (legally). Do other countries/states have similar laws on the books?
The price of doing business globally is that you must adapt to many different legal jurisdictions; other companies do it without apparant problems, Apple should as well.

Yes, very easily. You need an application that will allow you to set the ratings. There are plenty of apps around.
-> MetaZ works fine for tagging most info on movies including ratings.
Note that Apple is simply a distributor. They are not the labels/copyright owners. Pretty sure they don't get any money from Stichting Thuiskopie.

i noticed your reply here... it was helpful but i still don't get it. perhaps you could enlighten me?
first of all, i had to use imovie hd (6.0.3) because imovie '08 wouldn't import my movie clip... i'm frankly baffled at how crippled and useless this newer version is.
i managed to create subtitles one by one by splitting my movie with cmd-T, typing my title, dragging the slider and checking the preview until the title appeared for the right length of time, and clicking "add". this worked well but was extremely slow, so i looked for a more efficient way.
then i read your post and tried following your advice. i split my entire movie into clips at the appropriate intervals for subtitles (using cmd-T).
at this point i got stuck.
first of all, i notice imovie allows adding multiple subtitles, but i couldn't find a way to sync them to my movie.
i tried dragging the titles to the appropriate spots, between clips, but unfortunately, imovie fades these titles out before the clip ends!
if i extend the title's duration by dragging the slider, imovie re-splits the movie to fit the length of the title!
can imovie somehow be made to understand that the length of the clip is also the length i want the subtitle to be???
also, what's the point of imovie's multiple subtitle feature? does it work? can i move from one subtitle to the next? how is this done?

Go to iTunes prefs>Playback - from the drop down menu select your language.
You will see sub-titles if the media is programed with sub-titles. Not all content has sub-titles.

No. As noted both ways are separate.
Originally the MAS would recognize Apple software installed by the 'old' way - I have iWork installed and it was recognized - but - that ability was removed after several monts. What you buy as physical and as digital are separate.
