How can I arrange desktop icons on left instead of on the right?

Hi there,
When I download items to the right of the desktop, my aliases, files and folders all shift from the left (where I prefer them) to the right. I like the Mac HD icon in the upper right, that's fine, but that moves around, too. How can I stop this?

I was concerned about similar issues but took a different approach.
Basically, Mac browsers default the download location to the desktop. However, that location can be changed in the Preferences for any browser I've tried. I create a folder somewhere (usually in my Documents folder) labeled "Downloads" and then open the various browsers I have and "point" the browser's d/l/location to the new Downloads folder. I believe once you set one browser to use the new folder, others automatically find it but I still check each one/
Yes, it's sometimes convenient to have stuff d/l/to the desktop but I like to keep my desktop clean; too many items on the desktop can create performance issues, too. Ways to keep fast access to downloaded files are several:
1) Create an Alias of the Downloads folder on the desktop.
2) Drag the new folder icon to the left-hand pane in Panther's Finder window--it will be there no matter what window you open.
3) Drag the Downloads folder to the Dock at some point the the right of the little separator that segregates the Trash icon.
I do both 2 and 3 and feel it has had no negative effect on fast access to files I download, yet I still get a clean desktop.

How can I sync specific photos from folders instead of syncing the whole folder to my iPad?(1 gen)

So I recently synced a few folders from my PC to my iPad 1 and there was a few photos I did not want on my iPad, so when I tapped the photo, the trash button wasn't there. I looked up why that was happening and discovered it was because synced photos can't be deleted from the photo library. So I ask my question, how can I sync specific photos from folders instead of the whole folder? from iTunes to my iPad. If there is not a way for me to sync specific photos from folders, how can I delete the photos I don't want from my iPad?

As King_Penguin has already explained, this isn't possible with the stock Photos app.
As far as photo syncing is concerned, I also recommend PhotoSync, which is an excellent photo (and video!) synchronization tool, should you want to stick with the stock Photos app on the iPad. Should you want something better (Photos is a pretty limited app without sorting, EXIF displaying etc. capabilities and with HUGE storage usage), you'll need to take a look at third-party apps. I too recommend Photo Manager Pro, it's IMHO the best tool. The easiest way is to do it through iTunes. Connect your iPad to your computer, launch iTunes, choose your iPad under "Devices", then click on "Apps" at the top of the main window. You'll see your iPad's layout. Click on the page with the app you want to move, then drag the app to the page you want.
You can also drag the apps around on the iPad itself, but it's a little more of a pain. Hold your finger down on any app until every icon starts to shake. You can now drag and drop any icon to different locations/pages. To drag an app to another page, drag it to the far right or left of thew screen until the page switches - you'll have to do this until you get it to the page you want it on. Press the home button to get out of this mode (the icons will stop shaking).

If I put them in order and do "snap to grid," it doesn't just snap to grid; it rearranges all my word #$^%&&!
I want to be able to put the blankety blank icons where i want them and have them stay there neatly.
And I want the ability to put them back if for some reason the ghost in this computer (named Jobs?) wants to change them & annoy me.

If you put them in the order you want them, then do not use "snap to grid" - there is no need; just leave them exactly where you put them. If you use any of the available options, the OS will do the arranging. So - it's one (you) or the other (OS). Make sure you have "none" selected under Finder View Options.

I am taking advantage of clump´s post, but I have an issue with the following. I looked in my local retailer recently for a DVI to HDMI adapter... but they are out of stock. I need to plug my MacBook Pro to my TV, and then I have a DVi to VGA adapter, and my TV (Sharp Aquous LCD) has an analog PC connection. I tried to see my desktop in the TV, but the TV is not recognizing the Mac... do you if it is feasible to have the TV recognize the Mac through a DVI to VGA adapter?

The card is registered to exactly the same name and address as you have on your iTunes account (including format and spacing), and you are currently in that country ? How can I discover which icon I have accidentally removed from the toolbar?

Twice now, I have accidentally dragged an icon from the toolbar by mistake and cannot for the life of me remember which!!! (I've only know i've done it by the tell-tale 'poof' noise as it disappears into thin air!

It's a little like a logic puzzle.
Just about everything except Finder and Trash are optional items as far as Dock presence goes.
You'll know which is missing when you want to run an app and it's not shown on the Dock. You can then add it back in. If you never need to run an app that's not on the Dock, you don't need it on the Dock.

Does your email site have a print button to format the page for printing? That often gives the best results.
If this just started with Firefox 4, it could be related to a change in how strict Firefox is about a page's HTML code. To see whether this problem is caused by the new HTML5 parser, you can turn it off like this:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste '''html5''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click '''html5.parser.enable''' to toggle it to false (it should turn bold).
Then return to your mail site, reload the page, and test again. (Print Preview might be sufficient for testing.)
Does that make any difference? If so, the site might not yet be fully compatible with Firefox 4 -- or you have found a bug in Firefox.

Here are two ways on windows xp 32 bit:
1. Go to Start>All Programs, find the photoshop cs5 shortcut, right click on the shortcut and click Send To and then click Desktop (create shortcut)
2, Go to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5, right click on the cs5 Photoshop.exe, click Send To and then click on Desktop (create shortcut)
(you'll probably have to rename the shotrcut to Adobe Photoshop CS5 after the shortcut is put on the desktop if you want it to say cs5)

From memory favicons are about 17x17 pixels = very small.
OK, Save the site to Safari's bookmark folder as well as the desktop.
Use command shift 4, draw around the favicon showing in bookmarks to make a png copy on the desktop.
Drop the png into an app like ToyViewer and change to 128 x 128 pixels and add a custom icon.
You can then get info on the larger favicon and the normal weblock on the desktop and change the icon (copy & Paste)

One way is to uncheck the "Keep arranged by" in the Finder "View" menu "Show View Options" and uncheck "Snap to grid" and arrange the icons on the left side of the screen any way you want.
