In the Contacts app (if running on MOuntain Lion - used to be called AddressBook before)
Edit the record for a person
Double click the photo area
In the menu on left, choose FACES
Pick a face
Done
This of course expects you to sync your Contacts on your Mac and iPhone via iCloud.

You are supposed to send the Time Machine backups to another drive. Yes, you can send them to an external drive.
The reason to send all backups to other drives is because you will then have the backup to restore your data after repair. If the backups is on the same disk as your system or data and the disk dies, you have no way to recover anything.

I had pictures on my iPhone 4s and moved them over to my MacBook Pro. After they moved over successfully, I somehow erased them off my phone. I didn't want to do that. Is there a way to move them back to my iPhone? It seemed to me that I had only 2 choices to pick when I was done syncing my computer and my iPhone; reset or start over (like new phone). While you're synching (presumably your iPhone is connected to your computer via iTunes), click on your iPhone's icon in iTunes on the left. You'll see lots of tabs near the top right, one of which is "Photos". Click on that and you should see plenty of sync options for your photos, one of which will be right for you. Then click "Apply" near the bottom when finished.

I recently upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 and Aperture 2.1.4 will no longer open. I cannot access my photos and I don't want to pay for latest version of Aperture since this application is no longer going to be supported. How can I get my pictures?

If you want just the originals, then you can go into the Aperture library (right click on it and do "show package contents"). Inside is a directory called "Masters" and you can find the original files in a bunch of subfolders.
But... you'll lose all adjustments, keywords, and other information, and just have the files as they were imported originally from the cameras.
Easiest is probably to buy Aperture and update everything, and then migrate to the Photos application down the road if that's what you want. Aperture 3.0 came out in 2010 (five years ago!) so it's not like you've upgraded in a while

I am trying to create library class which will be accessed and used by different applications (with different image files to be assigned). So, what image file to call should be determined by and in the Main class.

I do understand that when I am making reference from main() method to MyJNIWindowClass() s first initialized to null and that is why clock could not be seen but how can I assign image file name from Main() class for library class without creating reference to Main() from MyJNIWindowClass()? As I said, I want this library class being accessed from different applications (means different Main() classes).

Your problem is one of timing. Consider this simple example.

Try System Preferences>Energy Saver>Options tab, uncheck Allow power button to sleep computer.

The only cable I can find with lightning and usb is the apple camera adaptor but it is £25 from Apple which is a bit expensive if it will not work. Some peoples reviews seem to say this will not work, I can not use the camera reader by Apple as this only takes SD cards and my camera takes XD and compact flash cards. I have realised that you cannot use this cable on a card reader which is a shame and means taking more cables on holiday with you and more likely to get lost. This is so frustrating as one of the reasons of buying the iPad was to use, to transport photos whilst away instead of having lots of cards which do get lost and damaged. I hope someone can help as there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what works in cases like this.
