How can I attach an iPod to my account?
I have a new iPod that used to belong to my grandma that I want to attach to this computer. Plus, it won't let me update the software on it (the iPod) to OS 5.0 or anything higher than 2.2.1.

- By you having iOS 2.1.2 I suspect you have a first generation iPod. That can only go to iOS 3.1.3 and you get that paid update here:

Simply connect the iPod to your PC and restore it via iTunes. This will associate the iPod with your iTunes library and content.

How can I play my ipod classic 30 G thru my home stereo system? The guy at Radio Shack sold me an adapter for the older, larger headphone adapter on my stereo receiver with an ipod attachment on the other end. It doesn't work. Do I need to make special settings on the ipod? Should it work? I read elsewhere that I need a Y connector. Thanks for any help.
The headphone jak on your stereo is an output, not an input. You cannot route music into your stereo throughthe headphone jack.

Go to Settings>General?Reset>Erase all Content and Settings. Then setup the iPod with your account.

It does not matter where the songs came from, they are not yours and the previous owner does not own the right to distribute them to others.

Very simple. Turn off Find my iDevice, then Tap Settings, General, Erase, Erase all content and settings.

Just to summarise what's in the link above:
Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries.
Method two is to set your preferences so that either one or both iPods get updated with only certain playlists within one library. If you've had no success with this you can have a look through the guide on this page: Loading songs onto iPod automatically

The other responder gave you a program that will transfer stuff from your iPod to your new computer. You can transfer iTunes purchaces to your new computer by:

After you move your stuff to your new computer you will have to let iTunes erase your iPod and then sync with the stuff that is now in your iTunes library. You will loose app data though.
