How can I attach photos to Mail as a thumbnail?

When I attach photos or PDF documents containing photos, to a mail message, the whole photo appears as part of the message. This provides problems at the recipient end as it can take a long time for the mail message to fully open.
What I want is to be able to attach a photo as a thumbnail which can then be opened by the recipient at a convenient time.
I have searched through Preferences and online help but to no avail. Does anyone know if this can be done and how?

The Mail.app displays all image/photo type attachments and smaller PDF attachments (1 page only) inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default for sent and received messages.
Depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app) or as attached files only which must be opened separately to be viewed for which you have no control over.
And the same is true in reverse.
For example, such attachments for a Windows Outlook or Outlook Express user appear as attached files only (not shown inline or viewed in place within the body of the message) before and when sending the message but when received by a Mail.app user, the attachments will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default when the message is opened regardless.
You can control-click on an inline or viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon but such attachments will appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default regardless when opened by a Mail.app recipient.
All this depends on the recipient's email client. The only way to prevent this going either direction is for the sender to archive all attachments as a zip file attachment.

  • How can I attach individual e-mail address lists to an e-mail and then send the lists to another person?

I want someone else to be able to send group e-mails, using mail lists that I have created. What is the easiest way of e-mailing my mail lists to someone else? I do not see how individual mail lists can be made as an attachment to an e-mail.

Thanks. I suspected that was the answer.

  • How can I send photos in mail as attachments instead of in the body of the message?

I want to send photos as attachments to email instead of in the body of the message.  I have searched through preferenced in both mail and iPhoto but can find nothing that lets me do this.

    1. As Rysz says, Mail does send them as attachments. If seeing the preview is problematic for you, then right click on it in the Mail Message window and select 'Show as Icon'.
    2. If you're worried about how they are received... Mail defaults to sending RTF email. A few older applications on other OSes have problems with these. A lot of users on other OSes can't figure out how to set their Mail applications to work with them. If that's the problem, use Plain Text as Larry says.

  • HT2513 How can I attach an e-mail to an iCal event?

In Outlook I would insert an e-mail, but can't see how to do it on the Mac

Does the cal event already exist or are you creating it off the email?
If your creating the even off the email then if you mouse over the date/time in the email you will be able to create an cal event for it. The event will contain a link back to the email.
You can also drag a message from mail and drop it on a day and an event will be created with a link to the mail.
If you have an event already created open the Info window on the event and drag the email to the URL field and a link to the email will be added.

  • How can I attach a photo to an email, using Photoshop Elements9,without going through the Revel cloud

How can I attach a photo to an email using Photoshop Elements 9, without going through the Adobe Revel cloud?

I'm using Windows 7.  I have no email clients.
You don't need an Email client nor Adobe Revel account to send email and photos as attachment.  All you need is an email account (could be free web-based account such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL or whatever including from your own ISP.  And of course an Internet Connection.
Now the most obvious requirement is out of the way so you need to go in to your Organizer and click on Share button and choose Photomail. Select the photo you want to send and follow the instructions that are on your screen.
You also need to request an Adobe Verification Code to enable you to use Adobe's Mail Servers to send the photos for you.  To do this go to:
    Edit >> Preferences>> Sharing
Look for something like this and fill out the red boxes where indicated (click on this image to see it clearly).
    Hope this gets you started.

If I receive photos in "Mail", if I save them they go to my folder "Pictures".  How can I save them to iPhoto?

What is your iPhoto version? With the most recent MacOS X 10.9.4 and iPhoto 9.5.1 you can select the attached photos in Mail, ctrl-click them, and use the command "Export to iPhoto". This will add them to your iPhoto Library in a new event.

  • How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)

How can I attach an image without the image is in the email body? (using the new mail the Lion)
I want in attachment, not in the body mail.

I think your only solution is to zip the image files first and then attach them.
Read this from a site I found:
Sending Graphical Attachments -- When you attach a graphical image to your message, the recipient of your message sees the image inline (that is, in the body of the message) if her email client supports inline display. ("Take Control of Email with Apple Mail" contains a table listing the capabilities of popular Mac and PC email clients.) If a client does not support inline display (or the recipient has turned off the inline display option), the file appears as an attachment that must be opened in a separate program.
On the one hand, an inline image is easier for the recipient to see - all she has to do is look at it. On the other hand, inline images can be frustrating to scroll through. If you do not wish to send a graphical image inline, you must compress the file before attaching it - Mail, sadly, lacks a built-in compression option, though fortunately for Panther users, the Finder offers Zip compression without requiring a separate application.
Note that when you compose a new message, Mail always shows attachments in the body of your message. You can manually drag them somewhere else, but many email clients display all attachments in a separate list, regardless of where you place them in the message body.
If you paste an image into a message or drag & drop an image from another window (say, a Web browser), Mail converts the raw image data to an attachment in TIFF format. On the other hand, if you drag & drop the icon of an image file (or use the Attach button to locate the file using the file browser), Mail leaves the attached image in its original format. This difference is significant, because although most email clients can display JPEG images just fine, support for TIFF - especially in non-Mac email clients - is less common. If possible, I suggest attaching image files as opposed to pasting or dragging in raw image data.

I don't think there's a setting in Mail to make this a default.  a ittle searching revealed an app that claims to do it.  Attachment Tamer is free to try before you buy to see if its worth it for you or if you just want to do it manually.

You can use the Share button on Preview's toolbar. Choosing Email pops open Mail with the PDF already iconified as an attachment. If it doesn't behave this nicely for you, select the PDF in Mail and choose the right contextual menu, where you will find View as Icon. I also have Send Windows-Friendly attachments enabled.
