How can I back up documents on icloud?

Can I use iCloud to back up important documents?  How?
Thanks!
Ed

iCloud does not provide general file storage in the manner of the late lamented iDisk. You can use it to sync iWork documents between your Mac and your iOS device, and you can back up your iPhone with it, but not your Mac.
if you want general online backup you will have to find a third party solution - this page examines some options:

    Back to the beginning...
What do you mean by "documents"?  Word or Pages files, spreadsheet files?
Also, on your device, in Settings>iCloud, you have to have an on/off setting for Docments&Data.  If not what kinds of entries do you have on that screen?

How can I back up ipad on icloud? I keep getting the message "There was a problem completing the back up. Please try again later." I have done so MANY times! I've followed the instructions ( I believe!) and the trouble shooting info does not resolve the problem. Can you please help?

I had this exact same problem because the router i had in my house was having interference issues and the speed was too slow to do it.
I would download a speedtest app on your iPad and see how fast your internet is.  I think the app is called speedtest in fact.

It's as easy as ABC if you use clouds like Dropbox, Box.net, Sugarsync or Google Doc

  • Hi, I lost some of my keynote documents during manage storage in icloud. How can i recover these documents in icloud so I can back it up to my ios devices? Because they were erased fro icloud itself! Thanks

How can I retrieve the lost data that I erase it accidentally from my icloud during manage storage of icloud?

I'm not sure you can unless you have a Mac with a back up.
Whilst it won't help you recover documents that have already become corrupt, can I suggest you get into the habit of backing up your documents in the cloud regularly.

how can I upload my pdf files onto icloud account?

iCloud doesn't offer general file storage like some other cloud services, however, various "file manager" type apps will allow you to upload PDFs etc.
    I use iFiles or Readdle's Documents http://readdle.com/products/documents/

  • How can I back up iPhone to iCloud manually?

I have iPhone 5 with iOS 8.0.2. I used to be able to go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, and then be able to see when was the last automatic backup and I could "Backup Now" if I wanted. I am set up for automatic iCloud backups. Now when I go to Settings>iCloud, there is an item "Storage", but there is no "Storage & Backup" and no button for "Backup now" and no information as to when was the last automatic iCloud backup. Am I missing something?

It's now Settings-iCloud-Backup (between Passbook and Keychain on my device). Tap Backup and then you should see Back Up Now.

  • How can I back up everything to icloud apart from my music.

Hi I live in the french alps and I listen to my iphone music all time when skiing and working, if I back up my music and I cannot get 3G or wifi I can't listen to my music?
AM I being dumb or is there an easy answer?

You merely need to download them while connected to a network (preferably wifi).
Yes you can download full playlists, albums etc this way (note the download all option in the screenshot below)
Another feature you may find handy is the ability to show everything in iTunes match or just that which is actually on your phone (settings > music > Show all music. Indeed I find this option so handy, i wish they'd move it from the settings to the app.

  • How can I  back up icloud photos?

How can I back up photos in iCloud? I have an iPad3.

If the photos are also in your camera roll, you import them to your computer as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  If they aren't, you can add them to your camera roll and then import them.  To add a photo to your camera roll, open the photo from your photo stream album, then tap the share arrow and tap Save to Camera Roll.  Of course, if your computer meets the minimum system requirements, the easiest way to download them to your computer is to sync your computer with your iCloud account and enable photo stream.  Then will then automatically download to your computer where they can be backed up.  To do this see http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/.

  • How do I back up documents that are stored in iCloud to my own hard drive?

The trouble is, however I search for an answer to this question, I get instructions on how to back up stuff TO iCloud.
I want to back up stuff that applications like Pages and Numbers are already storing IN iCloud.
See, I don't want to have to trust iCloud to safely store my documents.  Not unless there are copies somewhere that I can fall back on if (it's really only a matter of when) something goes fatally haywire in iCloud.
It's easy enough to do with a service like, say, Dropbox, which treats my "cloud-stored" files like they are in a folder on my hard-drive.  So when I run either a local (Time Machine/Capsule) or a cloud (Crashplan, in my case) backup, those files get backed up.  So I have at least three copies of those files - in Dropbox, on my Time Capsule, and on Crashplan's servers.
So how do I do that with docs that are stored in iCloud?  Apple wants me to store stuff in iCloud - if I have iCloud enabled and want to save a doc to another destination, there are multiple steps I want to go through.  And I'm fine with using iCloud if I'm creating documents that I want to be able to access from my iOS devices as well.
Yes, I can do that with Dropbox, but it's less seamless than doing it through iCloud.
But I want my own backups of those files, and near as I can tell, Apple makes that nearly impossible because iCloud does not show up anywhere as a folder that I can access or sort.
Or does it?  Am I missing something?
If so, let me know.... if not... is there a solution to this dilemma, or is it just one more aspect of iCloud that Apple has not clearly thought through?
    Thanks,
    --PS

Right.  You didn't read the post, you only read the title.
The title came from an earlier step in the process when I was posing a question to the systen.
The pertinent part of the question is "How to I back up documents that are stored in iCloud"
That the destination for the backup is NOT my internal HDD should be clear from the rest of the post.
And frankly, even if that is where I want to back up to, that would at least give me two copies, at least giving me one duplicate of the stuff on iCloud.
So please stop wasting my time if you can't answer the actual question: How do I backup content that is stored in iCloud.  The destination of the backup is irrelevant.

  • How can I attach a document saved in my iCloud to a web based outlook email on my IPad?

How can I attach a document saved in my iCloud to a web based outlook email on my IPad?

Thanks Nik and Roger. I think we've all come to the same realization: the new Pages will not attach documents to e-mail without going through Cloud. If you don't want to give your files to Apple to keep in its Cloud (which I assume the NSA has access to through a back door), then you can't use the new Pages.
If, like me, you downloaded the new Pages and used it to work on a document, before realizing you couldn't attach it to e-mail, then when you saved that document it was saved in the new Pages. If you later delete the new Pages (as I did) and go back to using an older version (which you can find in your iWorks file on your hard drive), then you discover that the older version of Pages won't open a document that you worked on and saved with the new Pages.
Nik and Roger have found the solution, if you keep the new Pages. If you delete the new Pages (as I did) then I had to accept the loss of any work I did on my documents using the new Pages, and began over using the latest version of my document that I had saved with the older Pages.
All in all, this has really soured my tase for Apple. If I hadn't recently bought a new MacBook Pro, I'd be switching to a PC now. I refuse to let Apple bully me into using their Cloud.

  • I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)

"I need to erase the contents of my phone and restore to factory settings. Does anybody know how to save your texts so you don't lose them?  Can I back those up to iCloud?  My phone was very likely hacked (Apple's advice was to call the police!)"
That was all I could put in the initial "box."  Then it brought me to this page with instructions on how to write a good sentence.
    Proceeding ...
After going back and forth between Apple, AT&T and the police (all telling me to go to the other two) I took AT&Ts suggestion and got a new number. One tech warned against doing a backup, especially on my Mac, saying if my phone had been hacked then whatever bug was there would then invade my computer. But nobody knows how to determine if the phone has been hacked or a virus was planted there. Unfortunately I know who would have reason to do such a thing and all I can say is that he is at the top technologically and could easily do it. Almost impossible to prove, however.
So I need to preserve my text messages and my emails as well. I backed up my photos to that Microsoft product (One-Drive) and it froze (Surprise, Surprise) with four short videos to go, and no way of stopping that (when I tried it crashed repeatedly) so I'm in crisis mode here.
    Help ...
    Running 8.0 on 5S
    Thanks!

Betty I don't know if you fixed your hacking problem but I feel your pain. I've seen some strange things going on between my iMac and my iPhone and Apple has told me the same thing, call the police which I have done. The hackers have stole 500.00 out of my checking account have access to every internet account I use and no matter how often I change the password their right back on the account. I closed my FB account 3 times only to have someone reopen it. Right now I've got a link in my reading list (Safari) that if I click on it, it allows me to log onto my FB account anonymously.
I've seen a green folder come out of no where while I was trying to delete my passwords out of keychain when that green folder was put into the key chain I was immediately locked out. I than went into system preferences to try to make changes to my security settings, when I clicked on the icon it wouldn't open. I've seen log files of automator receiving commands and sending out my personal information thats on my computer.
I have a legitamate program called iExplorer that allows you to look at the contents of your iPhone back ups and saw a transaction someone made at the Apple store for some full length movies, some albums, ibooks and other apps but when I called the iTunes store and they said none of those items were showing up on my account. If their not on my account how can they be on my iPhone 6? One day someone was using my gmail account and unknowingly used google maps to search for an Italian restaurant, than a Mexican restaurant than a coffee shop and their search showed up on my iPhone but I didn't have my gmail account installed on my iPhone 6. Using my computer I logged onto my gmail account and looked at the maps history and sure enough there were the searches when I'd hover my curser over the link it gave me the longitude and latitude of the where the hacker was when he was using google maps. I know whoever reads this thinks Im crazy but I've documented everything and can prove the things that I have mentioned in this post actually happened.
One day I had my laptop (pc) and my iMac next to each other as I was using both. when I clicked on airport it showed that my laptop and my iMac had made a connection and were actually communicating with each other. I know I didn't do it I don't know how. The iMac was logged into my iCloud account while my laptop wasn't. I have formatted my iPhone at least a dozen times, Apple and an Apple retailer have formatted my hard drive not to mention the numerous times I have formatted it but the hackers keep getting on my devices. Im formatting my lap top at this very second because during the course of the night I left the ethernet cable plugged into it and they locked me out of my c: drive, and configured the system so I can't download any updates from Microsoft, overtime I type in www.microsoft.com it changes to ww38.microsoft.com which takes me to a blank page. I right clicked on the page I was redirected to and read the java script and couldn't believe that someone had actually configured Internet Explorer to redirect me to a blank page when I tried to go to Microsoft. Apples answer to all this is there was nothing wrong with my iPhone or my iMac and if I thought there was a problem to call the police which I have done.
Theres no doubt the hackers are reading this while I type it or will read it and I simply don't care anymore. I no longer email anyone, don't use my iCloud account and have taken precautions to protect my credit but if I ever find out who has invaded my privacy to this extreme the police are going to want to talk to me because Im going to hurt them like they've never been hurt before

  • HT201342 How can I back up mails from my other accounts to my iCloud account?

How can I back up mails from my other accounts to my iCloud account?

iCloud doesn't back up email.  If you are using an IMAP email account your email is stored on your email provider's server.  Your iPad backup only backs up your email account settings, not your email.
