How can I back up only iTunes and iPhoto to an external HDD

How can I back up only iTunes and iPhoto, so I can reformat my computer and restore the files in these two programs?  I have an external, but its not big enough to create a time machine copy of my HDD.  I have an iMac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.1.  I am also running Windows 8 via Parallels and I would prefer to keep this partition in tact, but if thats not possible I'll re instal that program.
Some how Mackeeper and a couple other shady programs have been installed on my computer and what I want to do is reformat my computer.

You could drag the iPhoto and iTunes folders to the external drive and move them back later.
However, it might be easier to just remove MacKeeper and other adware.
See the post by John Galt in this thread about removing MacKeeper.

  • How can I restore my purchased games and music from a external hdd backup?

    Hi!
I have formatted my iPod and reinstalled Windows. Before doing that, I have made a copy of my entire iTunes folder on a external hard drive. Now I cannot restore my games by simply copying (my thought) "iPod Games Library.itl" file and "iPod Games" folder into the new iTunes folder under my Music. With the music I didn't trid because I dont't have much space right now.
In my purchase history I see I cannot re-download stuff.. Only "report a problem"/"done".
I know that a better option for backup would have been a CD backup from iTunes, but now I cannot go back in time to do it.
So, could you help me, please?

I would try opening itunes using a blank library and try this - just drag one game (one with the ipg file extension) into v8 and see if it shows up under applications.
Don't sync your ipod to it, though - you'll probably lose all game info/stats by doing this. This is just a test to see if itunes can see the file as an ipod game.

  • How can I delete apps in iTunes and have that sync to my iPhone and iPad?

How can I delete apps in iTunes and have that sync to my iPhone and iPad? I don't want to delete 3 separate times for each item. I just carefully chose 30-35 apps to get rid of via iTunes, hoping it would sync to my devices, only to find I have to repeat the process on my iPad, take notes, then repeat it on my iPhone. It wasn't always so tedious was it?
Here's the "Help" I got from Apple. They even quoted my question back to me then proceeded to answer with something very different and completely missing the point.
I understand that you would like to delete the Apps. I know how eager you are to get the required information and I will be happy to assist you.
You can remove individual songs, audiobooks, and videos from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad. Removing an item from your device doesn't delete it from your iTunes library.
To remove items from a device other than an iPod shuffle, first make sure that iTunes is set up to manually manage items.
    1. Connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to your computer.
    2. When the iPod, iPhone, or iPad icon appears in iTunes, select it.
    3. Unless your device is an iPod shuffle, click the Summary tab and make sure "Manually manage music and videos" or "Manually manage music" is selected.
    4. If the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad (below Devices) is closed, click the triangle so that you can see the device's contents.
    5. Select the item you want to delete and press the Delete key.
This was not helpful in any way and I am still unable to delete apps on my devices in a global, iTunes based way. Each device still requires its own independent process.

Match was off.  I made all of the changes and then went through the "Turn on iTunes Match" option.  I now have deleted some tracks, edited the Metadata in CDDA, and then added it back.  This worked fine, but it is not a good solution.
I just tried making some edits and use the "Update iTunes Match" and that seemed to work.  It looks like the real answer is that Match must be up and operational, then you can make changes and run the Update to incorporate the changes.  However, if Match has a problem then Signing Out and back in to your store account and going through the process of Turning On Match (were you get the questions, "Add this Computer to Match" will overwrite any changes.
Since this relies on the stability of iTunes, I won't be making a lot of changes between updates.

  • How can i back up my iTunes library if i want to uninstall it?

how can i back up my iTunes library if i want to uninstall it?

    Quit iTunes.
    Locate your external hard drive.
Mac: On the Desktop or Finder sidebar.
    Windows: In My Computer
Drag the iTunes folder (backed up earlier) from your external hard drive to whatever location you desire on your internal hard drive. It is recommended that you choose the default location for the iTunes folder, which is:
    Mac OS X: /Users/username/Music
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\
    Windows Vista: \Users\username\My Music\
    Windows 7 or 8: \Users\username\Music\
Open iTunes while holding down the Option key (Mac) or Shift key (Windows).
In the resulting dialog, click the Choose Library button.
Select the iTunes folder you just moved to the internal hard drive.
Click Choose (Mac OS X) or Open (Windows) and then choose the iTunes Library file inside .
After following these steps, iTunes will open and your iTunes Library will be restored.

  • How can I back up my iTune purchases to a disc

How can i back up my iTune purchases to a disc?

There used to be a feature to do this in iTunes but from what others have said it is gone in recent versions, probably because most people do not find it practicable to do it that way. New libraries tend to range in hte tens to hundreds of GB and backing up to 40 DVDs just isn't in the cards.  Get an external hard drive and use that to back up your whole ocmputer (including photos which you cannot download from anywhere).
If you absolutely must back up to disc then you'll have to use a burn utility or Finder's burn to burn the iTunes folder contents in bits and pieces.

  • I cleaned up several albums in iTunes only to have Match wipe all of my changes out.  How can I alter things in iTunes and have the changes stay?

I signed up for Match but when I added new albums, they failed to appear.  Ultimately I got a message to Sign Out and then Sign In to the Apple Store tab under iTunes.  I then added the computer back to Match.  It went through the process and uploaded the new albums (or matched them) but it also reversed hours of work I had done it editing my library and cleaning up track lists and song titles.

  • How can I back up my iPhone and iPod to a new iCloud account without losing any data?

    Hello
Before Mountain Lion comes out I want to create a new iCloud account because I don't want to use the @me.com email that I created with my current iCloud account. I want to create an entirely new account with a new @me.com email address. I use iCloud to back up my iPhone, iPod and am signed into it on my mac. Basically I want to back up my iPhone and iPod to a new iCloud account and not lose any data. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks so much for any help.

Before you connect to a new PC, make sure that autosync is disabled in Edit/Preferences/Devices, otherwise your phone will be wiped during the following sync.
    Then back up manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to the new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer the purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.

  • How can I back up my iTunes files onto a backup drive?

I am interested to back up all of my iTunes mp3 and movies onto a Toshiba 2TB drive.  How do you copy those files?
On another note, how can you sync iTunes between an iMac desktop computer and an Apple MacBook Pro?
    Many thanks.

Aside from using Apple Time Machine to backup your entire computer, you should be able to just copy the files from the iTunes Media folder. To locate it, open iTunes, press COMMAND then "," to open the Preferences screen. Go to the Advanced tab, and verify the the iTunes Media folder location. Copy that folder just like you would any other file.
To sync between computers, you could either use iTunes Match, which costs $25 / year and synchronizes your music through iCloud to any other computer on the same iCloud account (including your iPhone or iPad), or search around for an app (I'm thinking Dropbox or OneDrive) that would take care of that for you. Problem with most of those services is data limitations. I have to believe there are non-cloud based folder syncing apps out there, but none come to mind immediately.
If you wanted to get really fancy, you could change the location of the iTunes Media to something on a shared drive perhaps, but I've heard that non-default iTunes Media folders tend to cause headaches.

  • How can i keep songs in iTunes and not on my iPod?

I would really love to know how I can still have certain songs in my iTunes, without it transfering them into my iPod. If anyone has any clue as to how this can be done please let me know!!
      Windows XP

See: How to Transfer Music Between the Computer and iPod
    And: Transfer music manually
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.
Manage the iPod either Manually or via Selected Playlists.
How to Create a Smart Playlist
Deleting Songs or Playlists from your iPod
Or you can keep automatic sync and use the checkmark to determine which songs to transfer to the iPod. Any songs not checked will not be transferred to the iPod if you select "Only Update Checked Songs" within your iPod preferences tab. Not the best method as the unchecked songs will not play within iTunes Playlists or the Library (unless directly selected).
