How Can I Backup Files Before Restoring My HD?

Any suggestions as to how can to backup photos if corrupt OS10.6.1 won't allow burning of DVDs and external HD is corrupt and nonbootable?

There are several options. Get another external drive and drag and drop. Alternatively, make a bootable clone or disk image of your internal on the new external. Third, use another Mac and [firewire target disk mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661] to rescue your files. You also could tediously use a flash drive to rescue them--putting them on another computer, even a PC.

I would like to know how to save a file to network. Is this mean I can save my back up in MSN Skydrive?
The network share could not be access for following reason
No mapping between account names and security IDs was done,

Please ensure that the network location is valid.
Anybody know show to set a network folder for back up?

hey jugem,
backing up files on a network would require you to have either a different computer that is connected to your current computer via a wired connection or wireless connection.
It might be possible for you to backup to MSN Skydrive if you're able to map it to your system as a Network Drive.

Disabled iPad can i backup photos before restoring

I have disabled my iPad and really need my photos is there any way to save them from the iPad to my mac or to backup the device before restoring it. I have 5 years worth of photos on my iPad

Just a suggestion for the future, whether you are able to retrieve the photos or not, you might want to consider future photos to your Mac for safe keeping. It isn't a good idea to go five years without importing or backing up important photos.

That's a signal that the hard disk is damaged. On OS X Utilities, you can try to make a clone of the hard disk with Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD in the sidebar and go to Restore tab.
Drag an external disk to Destination box and press Restore.
If it doesn't work, you can use Target Disk Mode to connect your Mac to another one using a FireWire cable and transfer all your files. If not, use DiskWarrior to recover data. Finally, take the Mac to an Apple Store

How do I backup files if can't reboot?

3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

I found the answer to my question.
When you attach a device (iPhone, iPad) to your Mac, in iTunes 12 in appears as a tiny icon in the second "row" of the iTunes display. Click the icon and the familiar iTunes display for the device appears. From there, on the Summary screen, you can see the dates of the backups of the device (iCloud and backup to the computer). You can also use the button to backup to the computer.

Should you run into trouble.
Take the exernal drive appart. Take out the harddrive. Try reading the data via a usb adapter. Put a household finan on the hd.

It requires a password to restore from it because at some point, you checked the box in iTunes to use encrypted backups, at which point you were prompted for, and set a password.
If you now can't remember what that was, then you can not restore from that backup.

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac. You should be able to set a password for it. Save it. Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer, I suppose, back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity. As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro

time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine and go for it. You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups of your stuff.

It's too late for that. Maybe you should consider setting up your next iPhone to backup to iCloud... it happens automatically without user intervention once it's set up. All that's required is a power source for the phone and a WiFi internet connection.
