How can I backup my iPhoto to Google Drive?
I have Mac Book Pro I new to reinstall the OS for this. I want to Backup my picture. Its too many cant burn on DVD. I think I can backup on Google Drive. Any easy way to add picturesto google drive???
Is the drive formatted for the Mac? Is it a new drive? If so it's not formatted properly:
Drive Preparation
1.Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

You need to think this through.
Time Machine is a back up application. It keeps a rolling back up of the data. It's called rolling because it means you can revert to the data you had on a specific date and time. But that's not eternal, and as time goes by, and your drive fills up, older backups are deleted. So if you delete Events on your Mac they will - eventually - also be deleted from the Time Machine back up.
If you wan tot archive data hendon't use Time Machine for that job. Here's how you might archive an iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager -

There is a 3rd party application, pdf-RecoverPro, that will let you lock the file to printing, changing, etc. You set two passwords, one to let the user view it and one to unlock the restricted features. TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. If you want to be able to view the book with iPhoto on the other Mac you'll have to copy the library containing the book to the other Mac. You won't be able to import that book into the other library.
Make a duplicate copy of the library containing the book and rename the folder "Book Library". Open it with iPhoto and delete all of the files that are not in the book. Then copy the Book Library folder to the other Mac and open. You can also burn the Book Library folder to a CD as a way to archive the book in case you decide to order another copy at a later date. I create a separate library for each book I create and order and archive it to CD when I've ordered.

You should be able to select Force Quit from the menu beneath the Apple icon in Finder
and choose to Quit iPhoto from there, without messing up the Mac OS X in the process.

Not sure if rebuilding the iPhoto library would help this issue. However if you had to
turn off the computer without the correct method (unplug, etc; instead of menu choice)
the system may have accrued damages and should be checked, maybe repaired by
use of the Disk Utility in the system. Or restart the computer in Safe Boot mode, then
run 'repair disk permissions' while it is running in that reduced mode; then restart after.

Suggestions on how to use Safe Mode in article, to resolve issues, may be helpful.
There likely are other means to rectify troublesome applications, including reinstall.
Be sure to backup your music, image, video, and other work on an external drive

You can only backup the iPhoto libraries on iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, iPad) to iCloud, not the iPhoto Libraries on a Mac. Use Time Machine to backup your iPhoto Library or create clones of the drives with iPhoto Libraries.
This will change next year, when the new Photos.app will be released for Mac on the new MacOS X 10.10. Then you will be able to store the photo library in the cloud and access it from all your devices. -

How can I backup my iPad to another iPad backup I have on my same iCloud account. The old one is totally gone. Both backups are listed on my iCloud account. So is there any way I can backup the one I have now to the other one. I really just want the pictures that are in the old backup. I have tried resetting and erasing all settings and data on the one I still have, but when I go to restore by iCloud; it only gives me the choice of restoring the same iPad. Then in iCloud>storage>backup, I'm still not able to choose which backup to backup to. I've even tried deleting the backup to the iPad I still have, then resetting all setting and data on the iPad, hoping that in resetting up the iPad it would give me the option to backup to my old iPad. But it doesn't. It still has memory of the backup of my newer iPad.
I JUST WANT THE PICTURES!!!

If the Migration Assistant won't do it, move them over as you would any other folder; they're located in the Pictures and Music folders of your home folder by default. The iPhoto library needs to be transferred via a drive, partition, or disk image formatted as Mac OS Extended or through an AFP network share.

How can I sort out iphoto with my external hard drive?
Hello, and sorry if this has been answered before, i did have a look, but with no results.
a while ago my ibook filled up, and so i bought an external hard drive. i then dragged the photos across onto it, deleted them off my i book. no problems.
a while later i read about setting up my external hard drive to use it as an iphoto library. i did this, pressed the "alt" key whilst iphoto opened and i was able to open my photos from the external drive.
however, all the photos that i'd orignally transferred were not there, only the most recent ones.
so, to sum up, when i look at the photos on my external drive, they are all there, but when i try opening them with iphoto i can only see some of them.
how can i re-set up my external drive so i can see all my photos using i book?
i was thinking i could drag the photos that don't open from the external drive into iphoto, then redrag the entire iphoto library back onto the external drive. however, i only have 2 gb of space on my ibook, and about 20000 photos in total.sorry for being unclear.
i will try and explain again.
i still have my iphoto library on my internal drive.
i initially dragged and dropped the photos from iphoto onto the external drive and deleted them off my internal drive to free up space.
then i read how i better way to do it would be to drag my iphoto library from the finder, onto my external drive, because then i would be able to open it from iphoto. so i did that and when i pressed the option key whilst iphoto was setting up, accessed my iphoto file on my external drive.
the only photos to appear were the ones from when i dragged the entire iphoto file from finder, not the previous lot that i had dragged from iphoto itself.
so, any ideas how i can get the photos that aren't showing up using iphoto, to show up? -

If you have iCloud configured in iPhone, do the same for iPad.

I copied the iPhoto Library to a CD and from there to the new MacBook
If you copied the library to the CD via the Finder it would be no different than the methods Terence suggested. If you used the Share ➙ Burn menu option from inside iDVD you'll get a mini library that has to be accessed from the open library and the events/alubums copied into the destination library. Not the same as the other methods.
The Share ➙ Burn method is no longer supported with iPhoto 9 and later.
