How can I boost reception?

I have an ibook G4. My neighbor has made available his internet connection via wifi. The signal strength is too weak. Is there a way I can boost my reception? He is not keen on strengthening his signal.
I've seen the QuickerTek $200 solution. A little too much. I've seen how PC's can use a USB wifi device mounted in front of a home made antenna. Very inexpensive. Is there a way to plug in to the AE card in my ibook if possible.
I've also read where the D-Link DWL-G122 USB wifi device will work with older macs but not with one that has an airport card. Ideally, I'd like to use a USB adapter in my ibook. Does anyone know of a model that will work with a mac that has an AE card?
Thanks for any feedback.

I do not know if this would really help, but it might be worth a try. We have wi fi, but modem is on second floor, my mac is on first. I have an airport extreme card, but I also plugged in a wireless bridge (linksys WET 11 I think), and maybe it is my imagination, but I think it helped with speed. Bridges are not too expensive, and if it did not work you could.
Other people may of course have much better suggestions, esp. since you are using a laptop. But I thought I would throw this in just as a thought.
Good luck.

  • How can I boost ipad3's antenna signal reception?

My Wifi router name don't appear in wifi networks list when I'm in the bedroom, where as all other devises like laptop, Blackberry can see the wifi router signal very well. If I keep my ipad3 very near to the wifi router it works well.
The distance between wifi router and bedroom is not even 10 meters
How can I boost ipad's antenna signal reception to see my wifi router?
I already reset network settings and toggles airplane mode. Upgraded ios to the lastest version.

    There's no hardware solution.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • How can I improve reception?

I have a MiFi 5110L and live in a rural area.  How can I improve reception so pages don't freeze and go unresponsive so frequently?

I routinely get -100dBm reception.  I don't usually get an error message; I
just drop from 3G to 1X.  I'm in 85545.  I've found I get better reception
in the motorhome than I do in the house.  I had such a hard time getting
the sim card in the first time I'm hesitant to take it out, but if I keep
having problems, I'll try that.  I know that living so rural means I don't
get the same reception as I would in a metro area.  Would installing an
antenna of some sort help reception?  What type of antenna should I install?
    Thanks for the help.

  • How can i boost my graphics for gaming?

I have a winter 2013 macbook pro with a 2.9GHZ i7, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory, Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB, running OS X 10.8.2 (12c3012) how can i boost this for gaming...is this good for gaming? could i play games like call of duty with this?

    goose-hunter wrote:
so do you think runniong black ops 2 would be ok...this is not a gaming PC but i already dropped some coin to have a powerful macbook for work. i figure might as well be able to game a bit on it too..
The 13" is not a gaming computer, despite Apple packaging the 13" along with the other MacBook Pro's.
You'll have to check the specs of the games at the developers sites, however the minmal requirement is 99% of the time unsatisfactory as updates etc come out.
Apple used to have that 13" type of machine as a MacBook, then introduced the iPad and moved the MacBook onto the MacBook Pro's as a 13" model, then removed the 17" MacBook Pro.
So you see the shuffling around going on there as consumers in general are opting for the iPad instead than laptops.
Forget about 3D gaming on Mac's, it's future is very bleak indeed as more people are opting for the 3D less iPads with their "fake 3D" which is 2D images made to look like it's 3D.
3D GPU's generate a lot of heat, thus are unsuitable for iPads, and with the rise of dedicated consoles, makes them a better choice for 3 D gaming for most.
The hardcore 3D PC gamers are on Windows machines for it's longevity between OS cycles, hardware customizing and software tweaking ability.

  • How can i boost my ram

i would like to boost my ram how can a acieve that?

  • How can I boost my wireless broadband,

Since moving to BT, i have had issues with interupted broadband and range of wifi is hopeless.  how can this be improved??  I have had little success on the phone to india, one suggestion was a very long ethernet cable!!!

you can try downloading inssider2 (istumbler if MAC) and then run it. This will show the broadcasting networks round about you and their channels including your own. If you then enter your router and change your wireless channel to a free or less congested channel.

  • How can I boost WiFi reception of my iPod Touch?

I recently purchased an iPod Touch to use solely with the Square credit card app. Unfortunately, at the location where I need to use it the most, I can received a WiFi connection even though I know there are some. Is there any thing that will boost WiFi reception on an iPod Touch.
    Thanks for any help.

  • How can I boost the range of my router?

I have fios for phone/tv/Internet and use the Verizon MI24-WR router which works fine but my bedroom on the other side of the house doesn't get a signal. Any recommendation on improving the signal? I have the router in the office connected to the printer, PC and a"cable box" so moving the router would be a pain.
I have an old Linksys WRT54G that I could use as a booster but have no idea how to do that.
Does Verizon update router firmware? Replace older routers?

Firmware updates should happen automatically - login to  your router and from here http:\\192.168.1.1
    - advanbced - firmware upgrade to verify what version you have. From what I read routers are replaced based on issues you are having as well as your speed tier (75 Mb/s and up get the latest router)
I defer to the experts AFA extending the range of your WIFI please see http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Home-Networking/Actiontec-router-does-not-support-wireless-range-extend...

  • How can I boost the audio for a quiet clip?

I am using a video that someone else shot, and the audio is very low. They did not use a microphone, just the one on the camera, so the lady talking is very quiet.
I pulled the yellow audio bar up all the way, but it is still too quiet. Which audio effects can help me boost the volume more?
I've attached a screen shot of the audio effects I have available to me. I'm not quite sure what some of these effects actually do...
Please let me know if any of the effects I have would help me...or, should I just copy & paste my audio track several times? (I just thought of that...)
    Thank you!

You need to let one revolving card report a small balance of no more than 9% of its CL each month, all revolvers reporting 0 at the CRA is a Fico score drop as already suggested. http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Rebuilding-Your-Credit/GW-letter-Q-amp-A-Examples-and-GW-Success-Stories/td-p/1573680 Good luck in your rebuild journey and welcome to My Fico

  • How can I boost signal by extending a wireless network?

I have an Airport Express serving Wi-Fi and Airplay in my living room, and the signal is just strong enough that my devices will remain connected all the way in my back yard, which would be great for outdoor parties but the signal isn't strong enough to stream reliably. I thought I could resolve this problem by getting a second Airport Express to extend my wireless network and it would act as a repeater. However, it doesn't work when my devices (specifically an iPhone 4S) will not disconnect from the first Airport Express.
Is there another configuration I can use to get a more reliable Wi-Fi network in my back yard, one that doesn't require stringing an ethernet cable between the Airport Expresses? My base station is stuck in its location since that's where my cable modem and stereo are. Thanks!

Okay, after further experimentation, it appears the iPhone's Wi-Fi refuses to even recognize the existence of the extending unit. I walked out to the neighboring field, far enough away that the base station's signal cannot reach, but the extending unit still has line-of-sight. The MacBook has about -77 RSSI from the extending unit (verified BSSID is that of the extending unit with Airport Utility) and decent throughput - I was able to load a webpage rapidly - but the iPhone cannot find my network at all.
I also walked to the far end of the field with the iPhone, power cycled it, and performed Wi-Fi scans as I approached my house. It did not detect my network at all until it could connect to the base station, which I could verify in Airport Utility where it shows the iPhone connected to the base station unit and only the Macbook (still sitting under the extending unit) connected to the extending unit.
Anybody know how I can fix this so that I can apply the suggested workaround (power cycle the iPhone when outside of range of the base station but within range of the extending unit)?
Firmware checks verify all devices have the latest firmware. 7.6.1 for the older, extending Airport Express, 7.6.2 for the new hockey puck base station Airport Express, and 5.1.1 for the iPhone.

  • How can I boost the volume so I can hear a movie on a plane

I cannot hear movies while I am on a plane using MacBook Pro or my ipad. I have tried using the apple ear buds and sony noise cancelling headset. Will a headphone amp help?

I actually bought an App in the Mac App Store called Boom (sorry, I don't name these things).  It was well reviewed, and it really boosts the sound out of my MacBook Pro.  I can actually watch a movie listening to it through the MBP speakers.
It doesn't use up much RAM, and it really works.  And no, I don't get a kickback for recommending it, but I can tell you it's changed my viewing and listening experience with the MBP.
A headphone amp also works, but it's just more junk to carry.

  • How can I boost in-call (at full now) volume?

    Hi Folks,
have had my iPhone 4 for the last week.  I'm quite tired of people telling me to turn up the volume...it IS all the way up both using the buttons on the side and the slider...the picture tells me it is at max...I'm not deaf (yet) and the phone is CONSIDERABLY quieter than my Palm Pre (call volume not music).  There is no plastic film over the earpiece.  I have had six people in the last week say "yeah, that's the only drawback of an iPhone...but you'll get used to it."  I'm not sure I'll get used to it.  With so many skilled programmers out there, you would think with so many questions all over the web, we'd have an answer by now.  I will pay the first person to send me a link to an app that actually increases the volume (amplifys the current in-call volume) to the volume of at least the Pre (not that great a phone or difficult a task...lots of music boosters out there, must be a way to boost the volume of the call), not using a head set, not using bluetooth, not using speakerphone: $50.00USD.  No joke, this is really aggravating me!!!  APPLE, PLEASE SOLVE THIS!!!
Ratch  (please do not respond by telling me to turn up the volume)

Best action is to submit your feedback to Apple.

  • Frontier network - how can I boost speed?  Paying for up to 12.5; never get above 11.

I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2010) with OS Maverick.  I can never get the "up to" 12.5 speed; 11.2 max and I am only 1 block away from the Frontier "network Hub.  According to the tech that came out and set me up - I should get "super" speed, but I always come up short.   Maybe I'm being too picky; but just 1 time, I would really like to see my connection at 12.5.  Thank you all for help!

You don't tell us whether your 11.2 "max" speed is over wireless or over a direct wired connection.
Even if it were over a wired connection, there always tends to be some loss of speed in the routing process.
Things look very normal on your network to me.
If you review your plan with Frontier, you will notice that they are careful to avoid words like "guaranteed". Instead, you will find the wording wil be something like "speeds up to xxxxxx".

  • How can we boost the use of Webdynpro....?

One of the issue seems to be the User licensing cost.
Companies feel its cheaper to use a 3rd party web application to capture details and just use a RFC/ IDoc/ File to push transactions into SAP, thus using only 1 SAP communications user, instead of 500 webdynpro (web) users.
Probably, SAP should think about the license cost for "Webdynpro only" users.
    Any thoughts?

SAP does have such a user license, call the Platform User.  Contact your account executive if you would like to discuss the details of such a user.
License agreements do vary from country to country and within individual accounts - but in general it is a violation of SAP license agreement to create a 3rd pary UI and call RFCs and Web Services and only use one user account for the service calls.  All end users who interact with the application (even via service calls), need at least a plaftorm user license. However, due to the dynamic nature of license agreements, I would suggest that you discuss this in detail with account executive.
