How can I burn an iMovie project in DVD Studio Pro?

I created a DVD in iMovie for a friend, then burned the disc with iDVD. When I play it on my home DVD player it looks and sounds fine - but when he plays it on his DVD player, it looks fine but the audio is poor and echoes a lot. I looked at his setup, and he has DTS (digital theater sound), and from my primitive research, I found out the iDVD does not support DTS. I do however own DVD Studio Pro 3 which supposedly does support DTS - however I have never used this program and need some help figuring it out.
Is it possible to take the project that I created in iMovie and burn it in DVD Studio Pro so that it would be compatible with a DTS setup? I would need very specific steps to doing this because I have never used DVD Studio Pro before.

iDVD creates DVDs with uncompressed audio (PCM). DVDSP (FCStudio) has no DTS conversion capabilites, just Dolby Digital (AC3).
I think that your friend DTS system must play stereo PCM too; you could check in its documentation.
What I do know is that DVDs with uncompressed audio (we are talking about computer created and burned ones in particular) can be difficult to play fine in some players because the high bitrate.
I'm not an iMovie expert but as far I remember you can export your movie from there as high quality video (you must get a QuickTime movie with same settings that your footage) and convert it to MPEG2 video and AC3 audio using Compressor, and finally importing those assets to DVDSP.
I hope this help !

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD

Please help, im very new to the MAC world but as all my collegues use them and worship the ground they walk on i jumped ship. During this process i offered to produce my friends wedding DVD, i had three cameras and have chopped it all together and found Imovie really easy to work with. I am left with a wonderful wedding DVD that i cant get onto a DVD. please help my friends have watched their video on computer but it would be nice to get it onto some proper DVD with a title menu ETC and a case.
as mentioned above im very new to MAC so be nice lol.
    Thanks in advance

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
And here is a post from Creative Techs describing how to use Burn.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many options, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates. It is no longer sold by Apple, but you can find it on sites like Amazon and eBay as part of the iLife 11 retail package. The iDVD application has not been updated since 2006, so past versions back to iLife 06 should work.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain. But it does a good job, and can provide other functions as well, such as burning a BluRay disk.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates, but it is useful for creating a DVD of a single movie. It can also create a BluRay playable disk.
Burn can make a simple DVD, but does not have the menu flexibility or the templates of iDVD. If you only need to make a one-off DVD, Burn is sufficient and free. If you make a lot of DVDs, get one of the paid packages.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can also use SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.
I very rarely make DVDs anymore, because I make my videos in high definition. With any DVD software, your movie will be reduced to standard definition and will look pretty bad on most large screen TVs. I have to remind myself that many people still have small TVs.

  • Importing IMovie File into DVD Studio Pro 4

I used to be able to import the index file from an IMovie project into DVD Studio Pro quite happily.
Today the application freezes on the import progress window, with no files appearing in the asset window.
I have to force quit the application to get out of it.
Can anyone advise how to resolve this issue ?
    Power Mac G5 - Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you haven't changed anything on your system, then it would appear that you have one of two things.
Most likely, your preference files have be come corrupt, or second, your Application or application resource file for DVD SP have become damaged.
Try first to toss your DVD SP preferences, if this doesn't do it, then you should uninstall DVD SP and then reinstall with all of the updates before trying again.
If you have tried creating a new project from scratch and the problem persists, then read on.
If that doesn't do it, then there's a very slight possiblility, that there may be an issue with the QucikTime files of the OS, and keep in mind, (this is a very remote possibility) you may have to wipe the drive and reinstall the OS and apps. from the original disks, but only after everything else fails, (THIS IS A DRASTIC LAST DITCH EFFORT.)

  • How can I save my iMovie Project to a DVD or Flash Drive which can be played on a PC and any DVD player

I have an iMac, purchased in January 2011. How can I save an iMovie project to a DVD or Flash Drive which can be played on a PC or any DVD player

I will give you a basic primer, not going to get to in depth, as far as parameters, size of project, or the storage size of your usb flash drive, etc.
    1. you have your finished iMovie project. Under iMovie>Share menu. Choose export using quicktime.
    2. make Movie self contained. This way your Mov, Mvi, etc files will be part of the movie and it can play without having to reference the events, because it is actually there.
    3. so, now on your desktop  ( or any where else set up quicktime to save your file) you will see a quicktime file.
Drag & Drop that file on to the icon of your USB Flash Drive, etc.
    4. Details that I omitted because I admit I am not well versed. Most Likely that quicktime file is larger than your USB Flash Drive. You have to use one of quicktime compression work flows, also if you open the just created quicktime file. It will open quicktime player and under the File>Export you have to options. I have a Movie that was 42GB 1080P, I exported it as a 720P, so it would still be playable on a large screen and now the new file was less than 2.5GB.
    5. Oh, no i just realized that the file should be playable on a PC, as long as the PC has quicktime for windows installled and you left that USB formated at MS DOS as it came originally, or a PC will not recognize it. Will it open up on your Blu-Ray Player that has a USB port, not sure. Since there is no menu. but, perhaps just pushing play will start movie.
Hope this is of some help.

IMovie 11 does not "share" to iDVD. How can i burn an iMovie to DVD?  I do have a copy of iDVD on my Mac

My advice, keep iDVD on your Apple Mac as it is a great software and let's hope Apple will introduce it again in imovie 10.  Since you may have imovie 10.0 (2013) up-dated from imvovie 9.0 (which included iDVD for burning your home made films on imvoie 9.0,)  you can proceed as follows to burn it on a DVD:
    a) your film is completed on imovie 10.0.  Under share transfer it to "Theatre" (default).
    b) open iDVD  and drag the film ex "Theatre" on the space "movie" of i.DVD.
    c) Inser a DVD and clic on "burn"...
    It worked for me.

How can I burn ipod touch videos to dvd without compressing and losing quality?

iDVD is not longer officially supported by Apple, but still works like a champ.
In iMovie 10, go to File>Share>File, choose the size (probably should choose either SD or Large) then click Next, give it a name, then click Save (remember where you saved it).
When the activity indicator shows that the Share has completed (may take a while depending on your hardware and the length of the movie) go to iDVD. Go to File>Import>Video and select the file you just created. It will bring the video into your iDVD project.

  • Burning multiple imovie projects to DVD

Students created projects in imovie, exported into iDVD. How can I burn
multiple students projects (approx. 3 min. each) onto ONE DVD?

    Welcome to the forums.
I don't think there's a way to combine iDVD projects without some serious tinkering. An alternative approach is to open iDVD and create a new project. You or they can now drag and drop their iMovie projects onto the menu area of iDVD (generally the lower half of the frame). You'll also need to create some submenus to fit all the videos onto a menu.
If your network prevents the drag/drop idea, a different strategy is for each student to Share/Export from iMovie into a self-contained, full quality Quicktime movie. You can drag/drop these into iDVD (as described above).

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
