How Can I Burn Files to CD/DVD from Thunar?

Hi Guys,
Sorry I have to resort to starting a tread for this but I have checked the wiki and Google and come up with squat. I'm sure I'm just overlooking something very simple but I just can't figure it out.
I am using XFCE desktp and have xfburn installed. Just to clarify, I *don't* need to know how to burn an ISO to disk. I also *don't* need to know how to create a data disk with xfburn. What I would like to know is how to create and burn a data disk from within Thunar. When I insert a blank DVD or CD I can select the disk from the Thunar sidebar. This will "mount" the disk and the title bar of the Thunar window will change to "CD/DVD Creator - File Manager". Clearly this means that Thunar *can* create a CD/DVD data disk or it would *not* have a "CD/DVD Creator". The path in Thunar address bar is "burn:///" I can paste files into this window. Thunar's context menu also has "Blank CD - Disk" as an option in the "send to" sub menu which also copies the selected file(s) to burn:///
But, for the love of Pete, I cannot find the damn "Burn" button. Surly, if i can "copy" files to the blank disk (or "burn:///") then I *must* be able to commit those changes (i.e. actually *burn* the data to the optical medium). What am I missing here. Am I just not seeing the "Burn" option? Do I need a plugin? Is it a configuration change I need to make in Thunar? Or xfburn? Should I install some obscure package from the AUR?
Or is this just another stupid little bug further showing that every Linux desktop environment is buggy/incomplete?

Hi DKMac,
You need to use Disk Utility to burn an image:

  • How can I Burn the Best Quality DVD from a project in i-movie 06' HD?

Hello I shot a sort film with a Cannon HV-30 HD camera, edited it in i-movie 06 HD, it looks amazing! However I am a bit confused on what setting to burn it at in I-DVD...Best Quality or Best Performance? I herd it will not burn in HD so what is the next best? The short film is about 14 minutes long. Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    Steven

    "Best quality" of course.  ;-)
"Best performance" is just a faster burning/encoding process. The playback quality is a little lower than "Best quality". Since you burn once and play many times, go for "Best quality".

How can I burn a CD or DVD for regular data files using anything other than itunes?

If you need simple burning, do as Robert said. However, if you need more advanced options, take a look at Roxio Toast 10 Titanium. There is also a Pro HD version if you need more video burning options.

  • If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this.

If I download a video from my video camera to a new (current 1/12) iMac 21 inch, how can I burn it to a DVD using the computer itself. Is this possible? Do I need to buy additional software. Two salespeople at the Apple were a little confused about this. Thank you.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20)  into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.
Thank you again for your help and wisdom.

  • IMovie does not "share" to iDVD. How can i burn an iMovie to DVD?  I do have a copy of iDVD on my Mac

IMovie 11 does not "share" to iDVD. How can i burn an iMovie to DVD?  I do have a copy of iDVD on my Mac

My advice, keep iDVD on your Apple Mac as it is a great software and let's hope Apple will introduce it again in imovie 10.  Since you may have imovie 10.0 (2013) up-dated from imvovie 9.0 (which included iDVD for burning your home made films on imvoie 9.0,)  you can proceed as follows to burn it on a DVD:
    a) your film is completed on imovie 10.0.  Under share transfer it to "Theatre" (default).
    b) open iDVD  and drag the film ex "Theatre" on the space "movie" of i.DVD.
    c) Inser a DVD and clic on "burn"...
    It worked for me.

  • HT201788 How do I burn photos onto a DVD from iPhoto?

I am trying to burn photos/folders from iPhoto onto a DVD/CD but when disc utility opens I am unable to burn any of the items or folders onto the disc.  I thought that my optical drive was perhaps malfunctioning so I purchased a SuperDrive.  However, I am running into the same problem. The folders or pictures within, that I want to burn remain inactive.  How can I burn these pictures onto DVD/CD?

What kind of DVD disk do you want to create?  A data disk that just contains the image files or a video DVD disc that can be played on a DVD player on a TV set.  They are two entirely different types of disks and require different workflows.
If you're running Yosemite then you have iPhoto 9.6 or 9.6.1.
    For a data disk:
1 - select the photos to be burned to disk and export to a folder on the Desktop File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu.  Set the Kind = what you want, the original file or the current, edited version.
2 - insert a blank DVD in the optical drive.
3 - drag the folder of photos onto the DVD disk's icon.
3 - drag the DVD disk icon to the Trash Bin in the Dock which turns into the Burn function:
    For a video DVD disk:
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

Get info then check permissions then add your curent user name (it was probably different on old Mac) and give your username full read/write permissions.

  • How do I burn files to a DVD as image files

I've downloaded some files that I need to update the firmware on my DVD player.
The specific instructions say "Copy file named X.iso to a folder on your computer. Open your creation writing software, and set it to burn an image file. Make sure the ISO file X.iso is selected as the source file then copy/burn the file to the disc."
How do I do this? When I simply try and burn the files to a DVD-R (the required media), I keep getting a verification error code 0x80020063 and the DVD player doesn't recognize the DVD properly.
    Any help - much appreciated...

You transfer the purchases to the computer you use to sync the iPhone.  You can use a thumb drive or an external HD, etc.  Read this: iTunes for Mac - How to copy purchases between computers:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1373

I guess i have to use a program?
What is the most popular program for burning files onto DVD discs?  I am not copying DVD's just using the discs as backup for files.
    Help thanks!

Adeptecs easy cd/dvd creator, also works and has improved greatly from 5.0.  It now almost competes with nero, there is also discjuggler and several other burning suites.  Depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.  Probably nero will be your best option.

  • HT5899 How can I burn iPhone video to DVD to view on a TV please?

I have an iMac Mountain lion and 4S iPhone.  I have imported my iPhone video into iMovies but am unable to burn video to a DVD that will play on a TV (it will only play on a computer). Can any one help please?

iMovie is not DVD authoring software. You need to use a professional DVD authoring software like iDVD (Apple discarded it on new Macs in the past 2-3 years, if you dont have it, give another alternative AppGeeker DVD Creator here a whirl) to burn and create a playable DVD that can be played on an ordinary DVD player.

  • How do I burn a master data dvd from HD movies uploaded from HD camcorder

I have HD movie clips in my project library.
Now, I would like to burn a master data dvd.
I find I have two options under share.
    1. export movie, creating a clip in i tunes at 960x540 ; 26.8 mb
    or
    2. export using Quicktime, creating a clip at 1920x1080 ; 553 mb
These movie clips are of my new born daughter and I would like to make a master copy that I can make dvd movies and edit any time I feel.
    Thanks.

Use Disk Utility. Drag the .img file to the left sidebar, select it and click the Burn button in the toolbar.
Or, you can click Burn in the toolbar, and then select a disk image from the dialog that appears.

  • How can I move files or complete websites from Windows 7 to Nexus 7 for Firefox, without using sync?

I'm writing documentation telling end users how to move large websites (up to 4GB, including PDFs but not sound or video) from Windows 7 to Nexus 7 (Android 4.2.2) to be used offline there -- preferably moving the site by a wired connection, instead of using Firefox sync. I have the latest Adobe plug-in, and the latest Java from Oracle, on the Nexus 7 (it would be nice if it were not necessary to download these after downloading the latest Firefox for the Nexus, but I suspect that's not Mozilla's fault).
So I saved a small test PDF file on the Nexus 7 (to see what download folder it got put into -- it showed up in sdcard/Download/). However, when I move a small PDF (that was NOT created on Nexus 7) from Windows to Nexus 7 (through the USB wire) to the same folder, the file does show up there as expected (as seen by ES File Explorer), but is invisible to Firefox.
Also there are several files left over in that folder from a previous installation of Firefox on the Nexus 7 (I uninstalled and re-installed Firefox, for a blank-slate test). I would also like to make these files visible in the new installation of Firefox, in order to delete them.
How can I instruct the end user to change permissions or whatever on the Nexus 7, or otherwise cause certain PDF or HTML files in the sdcard/Download/ folder to also be visible to Firefox?

The best way to do things is to use sync. If you wish do use other methods it would become complicated.
