Do you know --- the last time I tried to back up my itunes it asked for 106 cd's do you how to direct the backup to the external drive? By the way I found 3 back up cds from 2010 and 1 of the 3 cd's had an error.

I can play the music on my itunes under my purchased section but when I go to my phone when I have it connected the a lot of the songs won't play on my song or from the itunes under my phone. They have a little icon to the left of them that looks like a repeat icon. It won't let me delete them from there nor play them. All that happens is it just flicks through it all and won't play any of it???

Many thanks JEM24 for your help. Ive just spent the best part of six hundred pounds on a new Sony Rx100m2 compact camera, so I have no interest in the Ipods camera at all really. I doubt Ill be watching many videos on it as Im very lucky in that I have a good Android tablet. Its more as a stock music player that Ill be buying the Ipod for, if indeed I do end up buying one. I dont like the idea of paying the exorbitant amount added for more memory space that Apple along with most other companies charge. In fact I read an article on this very subject just yesterday in the tech section of Flipboard. It stated in the article that in the case of the Iphone the actual cost of each additional gigabyte of storage to Apple et al is something in the order of 60p.. This is certainly not reflected in the price us the customer has to pay at the till.. Its for this reason primarily that Apple in particular, because their products do not allow adding expandable memory of your own in the form of cheap to buy cards, that nobody in their right mind buys the 64gig etc Iphones..I am aware that we are discussing my potential purchase of an Ipod Touch here but you see my point. What my wife wants to do is to be able to open up an app. and have all of her movies listed and then be able to click on any of them and watch them on her ipad. HELP!

The easiest way to do this is to import the movies into iTunes and sync as many of them as will fit onto the iPad.
If you want easy access to all of the movies without having to sync, you can find a file sharing website and upload all the movies there. Then, get a download managing app such as iDownloads, bookmark the links to all of the movies, and you can download them at will and delete them when you're done with them.
If you're especially tech savvy and want a solution that is less laborious, you can setup an FTP server (such as the Filezilla server if you have Windows) on the computer where the HD movies are located, and give it access to the folder where the movies are. Then get an app that can download to FTP servers (GoodReader is one that I use) and download the movies at will via FTP. This solution requires less busywork, but is only feasible if you are especially technically savvy.

The iphone/ipad/ipod is not a backup/storage device. The sync is one way - computer to iphone/ipad/ipod.
Copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.

Is your iPod configured to sync audiobooks? To check, plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes locate it's audibooks tab and make sure it is set to them.

How do I authorize my new PC to purchase from itunes store? It prompts me to go to STORE menu, then choose Authorize this Computer (which i don't see anywhere) or Advanced (which I don't see anywhere).

There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is still in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Alternatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:

First, you would need to make a backup of the entire iTunes folder on the PC. You could get music to the iPad if the PC was still functioning, or you would have to move the music to another computer. An iPad is not a laptop, and does not have a port to plug an external drive into. You can sync music to the iPad from the computer, but you are correct, unless you get iTunes Match, you would need a computer to copy the music to and then sync to an iPad.

Depending on which country that you are in you might be able to re-download it for free : re-downloading. Otherwise, have you not got a copy of them on your computer and/or on a backup that you can use to re-sync them to the iPhone ?

Do you see your iPod under Devices on the left side of the iTunes window in the source list when it's connect to your Mac?
BTW... you sync iTunes media from the tabs in the iTunes menu, not from the File menu unless you are transferring iTunes purchases from the iPod to your Mac.
