How can I cancel an update?

I decided to update to iOS 6.1.6 because I wanted an update on my software and it gave me the instructions to sync it to iTunes.  I did so, but it is still there! Can anyone tell me how to cancel my update if possible?
I am using an iPod Touch 4th Generation with iOS 6.1.3 i believe

Hey Severrassien, It is difficult to understand what or how you are updating. Can you include details as they appear on your iPod and computer. If I'm understanding-- you have physically connected your iPod to your computer with the charging cable, right? If so what version of iTunes are you running? Is it current, if not, update date iTunes first, then connect with your computer and from your iPod page tap on update. If this does not work, what are you being told from your computer and/or iPod? Are there any error messages? What are the messages? From what you have posted it's all I know to help you, (you have baffled Illaass and he is one of the best) more information would be helpful. Good luck. Cheers.

I just installed the most recent update and it's terrible.  How can I go back?

If you have a Mac OS, you can use Time Machine to restore your settings.  If you have Windows, use System Restore, which you can access by typing "System Restore" into the field at the bottom of the menu bar after clicking the Start menu.

  • How can I cancel an update download once it has started?

Firefox asks me to download an update to version 3.6.24 every time I go online. I do not wish to do so at this time. However, I hit the download button by accident and it began the download. I have paused it, but I want to know how I may stop it altogether (for this time). I have a Mac.

The reply from cor-el assumes that the question was about an ordinary download, managed by the "Downloads" panel interface. A Firefox update does its downloading (before installation) with a different interface panel. I do not have a screen-capture of the actual panel in that it's appearance happened a few days ago and our final approach was to suspend the automatic download (note that that had been started in error), and then to do all the manual steps we usually would do for a deliberately, manually-started, update. But the "hanging in mid-air" update forced us to do that update in a way and at a time that we ordinarily would not do it.
I still contend that the Firefox update progress panel (whatever it is labelled) does *'''NOT*''' have any obvious cancellation interface, not even the "x" noted above. (... and if it *only* had an "x", in my opinion that would not be a sufficiently obvious interface as compared to having a "Cancel" button.)
I am replying in this thread on behalf of "shepdog" as I am our local desktop support for the particular Macintosh. Please consider this reply as a mark that the reply from cor-el, while it was a correct answer, was not an answer to the particular question that was asked, i.e., "Not Helpful".

  • How can we cancel Firefox attempts to load new version of Firefox or successfully load it

Firefox is attempting to load the new version of Firefox and keeps failing, with this message showing. "Updates can`t be installed, make sure no other copies of firefox are running on computer then restart. When you X out or click on OK, it tries again and keeps repeating this cycle, not letting us connet to the internet. How can we cancel the update attempts or successfully load the new version so we can access the internet sgain

If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

    Really?
Is there no other option? No magic key combo that brings up a secret menu?
My imac just froze during a software update install and I too do not know what to do.

How can i cancel my osx update?

There is no safe way. If it's been underway a while don't. If it's been underway no more than 5 minutes, then you can force quit the installer by pressing COMMAND-OPTION-ESC, select the installer application, then click on the Force Quit button.

  • How can I cancel the iOS software update?

For some reason, iOS 6 has decided to download on my iPod Touch through WiFi. I didn't request it, nothing is set to automatically update in the Touch settings, or iTunes. It seemed to start downloading when I  synced the Touch. I've disconnected the Touch from WiFi temporarily. How can I cancel the download, or will there be an option when it's done downloading to cancel the install?
    Thanks for any help...

I had the SAME problem & it was incredibly frustrating.  Having WiFi disabled for days caused me to eat up A LOT of my data plan.  It is total BS that there is no way to cancel an OTA download.  And it is total BS that no one can get ANY help on this issue.  There should be a way to cancel or at least downgrade if you don't like the newest iOS.
So, since Apple won't let you downgrade if you went ahead & installed it, and Apple won't help AT ALL if you don't want iOS 6, I had to figure it out myself.  Here's what I did....
The stupid iOS 6 update that nobody wants needs a certain amount of free space in order to download & install.  I had started the download & disabled WiFi like you did, so the download was paused.  While it was paused, I set my video camera to record & it sat there & recorded for like 2.5 hours (ugh) before it finally took up all the space on my phone.  Then, I went back in & enabled WiFi & checked the piece of junk iOS 6 install & it now said it couldn't download b/c there wasn't enough space.
I figured this solution still s ucks b/c now I can't download any apps or take any more pics or vids.  About 30 minutes later, though, I went back to the horrible iOS 6 download & a message popped up saying there wasn't enough space.  When I hit "OK" or whatever to clear the message, the screen had reset & gone back to the "download & install" button.  FINALLY I was able to stop the download & installation of iOS 6.  THANK GOD.  I want nothing to do with it, and there is NO WAY Apple is taking my Google Maps or YouTube.

  • How can I cancel an Apple ID?

I have 2 Apple ID's and would need to cancel one of them because it is incorrect. My App Store automatically uses the incorrect one and I need it uses the correct one so how can I cancel an incorrect Apple ID?

You can't.   Just use the one you favour from now on and the other will fade gracefully away.   But remember, updates to purchases you have made will still require you to use the original details.   You will need to edit the details on App store so that only your preferred ID shows up.

  • HT201318 How can I cancel my storage plan

How can I cancel my storage back up plan

    I quote:
'If you purchase a higher-tier storage plan for your iCloud account to replace your existing storage plan (for example, a 20 GB plan to replace a 10 GB plan), the existing plan will be canceled and you will receive a prorated refund for the time remaining. The new storage plan is applied to your iCloud account and the annual payment date is updated to reflect the purchase date for the new plan.'
So just purchase the new storage level and it will sort itself out automatically.

  • HT201210 how can I cancel the ios 8.0.2 download before it is completed?!

how can I cancel the ios 8.0.2 download before it is completed .. clicked download by accident! someone please help

If the speed of your internet connection is slow, this will affect the download time. Also realize that everyone and their mother are trying to download the update as well...servers get taxed to the max and the download can even be slow for those with the faster internet connections.
That being said, I don't know if it's possible to cancel the OTA (over the air) download. You can effectively force pause it by disconnecting it from your Wi-Fi router until you CAN leave it connected to charge and update. I believe you can go to Settings/Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off from there. Realize though that once you reconnect to your Wi-Fi network, the download will continue.

  • How can I cancel a newspaper app? I have deleted the app from my iPad and itunes

How can I cancel paying weekly for a newspaper app?

You may end up having to delete the stalled apps in order to redownload them, but in the meantime.....
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again. Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
Try a reboot as well - hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider.
And .. You can finish the downloads in iTunes on your computer and then sync them to the iPad.

  • HT1937 How can I cancel my iTunes Free Books Account?

Repeat: how can I cancel my iTunes Free Books Account?

Just stop using it. Anything you downloaded is forever tied to that account
and you will need to use that account for any updates to items downloaded
    with the account.
What is the problem that you wish to cancel the account? If you give more
detail, perhaps someone may suggest a solution.
