You don't. If you cancel, you would no longer be able to update any apps or redownload any content. Just stop using the account. If you have a credit card registered, sign into your account, go to the payment method area, and select "none".

Is it possible that you are using the same password for the old O2 Study and newer O2 Apple Base Station networks?
If so, Keychain Access is storing the old information about the old network and may be associating it with your AirPort Extreme settings based on the BSSID that William has mentioned.
If that's the case, open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access and look for a listing with the old network name. Delete this entry. You may need to power down both the computer and the AirPort Extreme and restart them.

You currently can not cancel an iTunes account. You can log into your account and remove all your personal information, sign out on all your devices and just never use it again. You may be able to contact Apple and ask them to disable it:http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Just to be clear, purchases made on this account will be linked to only this account. If you chose not to use it you will lose access to those purchases until you sign in again

No, iTunes accounts can't be cancelled nor deleted, you can only stop using them - any content that you bought with the account will remain tied to it.
If you want to try using the email address on a new account then you will need to replace it on the old account first e.g. by tapping on it and logging into it ivia Settings > iTunes & App Store on an iOS device, via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or via http:// appleid.apple.com

You can't transfer purchases from one account to the other. Your friend had no right selling you the iPod with purchases on it made from his account.

Click "Account" under Quick Links at the top right of the iTunes store. Next to payment information click "Edit" and then select "None" under payment method.
On an iOS device go to Settings>Store>Apple ID>View Apple ID>Payment Information>None.
