How can I capture ASCII via Bluetooth?

I want to be able to connect an old Bluetooth device that does not support files or file browsing, just plain upload or download streams (mostly ASCII text). On the PC there is a data capture program which receives the ASCII on a COM port via Bluetooth, but I seem to be stumbling to get this to work in VMWare because it shares the Bluetooth with my iMac, VMWare and Mac OS X both say that it is connected but the device doesn't agree (I have confirmed it does work on a real PC in the same edition of Windows), I am looking for a Mac OS X program to do the ASCII capture instead and any help in troubleshooting the connection.
The program should be fairly simple - just capture a stream of ASCII data to a text window or file. All that I can find on Mac OS X is file upload or download, but that is not supported by this device.
One thought - could it be that it is the iMac Bluetooth that is not supporting the device? It works fine with a Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle on a PC, but I don't know if that provides the same services as the iMac Bluetooth.

EDIT: Plugging in the Belkin USB Bluetooth dongle to the iMac just chucks everything off Bluetooth, so that's keyboard and mouse / trackpad, which makes the iMac unusable. Unplugging the dongle makes them reconnect. Can't say that I'm particularly impressed by this - why can't Mac OS handle two separate Bluetooth hosts?

Apparently nobody here knows (or cares?) about Bluetooth SPP.
I have worked around the problem by using the devices serial port instead, I built an RS232 serial cable and acquired a serial - USB dongle, downloaded the drivers (which are current and available for all platforms, thankfully) so now I am able to communicate with my device successfully in Windows running in VMWare Fusions.
I don't expect to find any native Mac OS software that will capture from a COM port, even though that method of communication is technically still supported in the OS (I think, otherwise why would the serial - USB driver exist for Mac OS X?) Would like to have been able to do this without relying on Windows, that's all.
This has solved my problem for this device.

You probably should not be using a keyboard bluetooth profile for a scanner, I am not a developer for apple so do not know the location for you to find out the correct profile you should be using for an input device that is not a keyboard. Sorry,

Substitute, in the KB, the appropriate instructions for your other device in place of the KB section for the receiving device. Be aware that RIM only supports BT file transfer between BBs...with other devices is technically unsupported. But, it usually works, as long as the two devices are paired, trusted to each other, and each have all of the correct BT services enabled for the configuration of the other device.

You can't. Apple's share button only supports Apple Mail (as specified by launching Apple Mail, choosing preferences and choosing general.). Maybe Apple will open this up to other apps in future updates.

You can't drag video into the filesharing pane of iTunes, you can only transfer projects.
Videos need to come in via the photos tab of iTunes.
The easiest way to get videos from the iPhone to the iPad is via the project export import.
Projects can be exported from the iPhone, then imported to the iPad like this:

If the marquee screen isn’t showing, tap the My Projects button .
Scroll to center the project or trailer you want to share.
Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, and then tap iTunes; tap OK when iMovie indicates that export is complete.

How can I remove ASCII text from a field when I use it in a query?
I am running a select statement on a table that appears to have ASCII text in some of the fields. If I use these fields in the where statement like the code below nothing returns:
SELECT FIELD1 FROM TABLE1 WHERE FIELD1 IS NULL
But the field looks empty if I do a straight select without the where clause. Additionally, one of the fields has text but appears to be padded out with ASCII text, which I need to strip out before I can use this field in a where or join statement. I have tried using a trim, ltrim, rtrim, to_char, nvl, decode and nothing works. When I use excel to run the same query it looks as if these ASCII fields are boxes.
I have asked our DBA team to see what they can do to prevent these from going into the table, but in the mean time I still need to run this report.
Do you have any suggestions?

I see what you mean....Premiere Elements 10 appears to be the last version that had options for the user to select Capture Video and/or Audio in the its Capture Window.
If you are doing DV data capture firewire into the Premiere Elements 11 Capture Windows and want a final file without audio and you cannot do this at the camera level, then consider....
1. Do the Capture "to the Timeline" - video linked to audio result on the project's Video Track 1
a. Right click the Timeline DV AVl and select Delete Audio and then edit accordingly.
or
b. Import the DV AVI but, when you go to export it, in the export settings, remove the check mark next to Audio so that the export contains only the video portion.
Publish+Share/Computer/AVI with Presets = DV NTSC Standard
