How can I change my email on my iCloud account?

I created my icloud acount a few years ago with and has a old email that is no longer in service. How can I update my icloud account with a new email address?

If you're trying to change your iCloud account on your device and are running iOS 7, you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use. If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

If the iCloud account ends with an @icloud.com, then that is something that you cannot change it. If that is not the case, then you will need to sign out and may need to change it back to the old Apple ID to do so.

Hi and thanks. The password on the old iCloud account doesn't work and my ex-husband says he doesn't know what it is -- and that he's not getting emails to reset the password. I tried using the rescue questions and even the birthdate isn't working. I think he's changed it to keep me out, but it's charging my credit card account.

Yes the Apple ID is the thing that ties your devices to you and shares your information and content between them.
If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

For iCloud you go to Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with your iCloud account.
There are also many other setting that can be associated with here Apple ID like the following:
- Settings>iTunes & App Stores (sign out and sign in)
- Setting Mail

David, I have a similar issue but I am still running into a road block. I have had an account with apple for email since before 2005 and it was perfect for that moment in life. I used my name to set up as my appleID. [email protected] It has now since been year and years later. I am married and have my own business. I would like my new apple email to be nonnaiandd.icloud.com. When going to set up a new apple ID as you suggested. It asks for a valid email address as the apple ID. Well, my valid email address is my icloud account ([email protected]) This email is what would be my primary email in the account. I want a new apple ID and new email. How do I proceed? Note: If your Apple ID and your primary email address are currently the same, changing the primary email address will also change your Apple ID. If your Apple ID and your primary email address are different, changing your primary email address will not change your Apple ID.
Follow these steps to change the primary email address for your Apple ID:
Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), click "Manage your Apple ID," and sign in.
With the Name, ID, and Email Address drawer selected, click Edit next to Apple ID and Primary Email Address.
Enter your new email address.
Ensure that the email address you enter:
Is one that you regularly use since this will be the primary email for your account
Is a valid email address
Is not already associated with another Apple ID you have
Is not an address that ends in @mac.com. @me.com, or @icloud.com
