Use a different Apple ID for iMessage (and FaceTime). You can continue to share the same ID for iTunes purchasing but you should have separate IDs for each person for iMessage and FaceTime. To change the ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a separate ID. Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

Your iPad should pick it up through the iCloud FaceTime servers from your iPhone. If it does not, you can try disconnecting both the iPhone and the iPad from FaceTime, then connecting the iPhone, and finally connecting the iPad.

If you have completed the info for a contact there will be additional spaces for more phone numbers. If you have not added a number yet, simply tap the word to the left of the blank phone number space to change the category.
