How can I change my scratch disk?

I used to use FCE and always used a scratch disk, i.e., an external hard drive for the actual footage so it wouldn't clog up my computer's drive.
I've been looking for a way to do this in iMovie '09, but can't figure out how.
Anybody know how to do this?

Your external rive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). If not, you can reformat using Disk Utiltity.
On the iMovie Import Screen, you can select an external drive as the target for the import. This will remain the default place for importing events until you change it.
For Events that you have already imported, you can move them to an external drive. This must be done from within iMovie, so you do not break the links to the projects.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK. You should now see your Event Library with small icons for available external disks. Hold down the Command Key as you drag the Event icon to the icon for the external drive in the Event Library List. (If you do not hold down the Command key, it will Copy, not Move).
I also suggest you look in Help at the Consolidate Media command. This is a good way to put all Project assets into the same external drive.

  • How can I change my TM disk in TC to a external HD?

I have a 1 TB time capsule and was used as time machine backup. But now as my iMac is running out of space, how can I change the disk in TC to be an external hard drive?
Plus, I want to set up the drive in the TC be use via wireless, like a share network drive. Is that possible?

how can I change the disk in TC to be an external hard drive?
    Technically, you can't.
An external hard drive is defined as a drive that is attached directly to a computer by USB or FireWire connection.
The TC does neither of these things. It is a network drive that connects to the network via an Ethernet or wireless connection.
I want to set up the drive in the TC be use via wireless, like a share network drive. Is that possible?
Yes. I'm not recommending that you do this, but if you have another wireless router that is providing a wireless network, you can configure the TC using AirPort Utility to "join a wireless network".
In effect, the TC becomes a wireless hard drive in this type of setup. The Ethernet ports are not enabled in this type of configuration, so you cannot connect via Ethernet for a faster wired connection.

Can i change my hard disk up to 200 GB or 500 GB ? if i can,how should i do ?

Clone backup current drive to an external disk (SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner). The external disk should be a FireWire drive so you can boot it (I believe the White MacBooks only booted external FireWire drives). You should test booting the cloned external before continuing.  Or you could clone the current MacBook drive to the new replacement drive, which could be done via USB or FireWire.
If I recall correctly, remove the battery, remove a metal shield, pull out the current drive, remove the bracket, attach bracket to new drive, slide new drive back in, put metal shield back on, put battery back in.
If you cloned directly to new replacement drive, boot up your MacBook and enjoy.
If you cloned to an external FireWire, boot the external cloned FireWire drive,  and clone it back to the new replacement drive.
If you consider your data valuable, have yet another backup to a different drive before starting just to be safe.
There should be YouTube videos that will show you how to do this, or search MacSales.com for how to videos.

How do I edit scratch disk ?

I like that you used a big, easy to read font, but you didn't use quite enough words...
Please list the OS and Photoshop version you're using.
Are any of your disks actually full?
If you can open Photoshop, you can configure the scratch disk preferences in Edit - Preferences - Performance (in recent versions of Photoshop that is).
If you can't even open Photoshop, you can set your scratch disk preferences by pressing and holding the Control and Alt keys (or their Mac equivalents) immediately upon cold-starting Photoshop.  You have to be very quick, and if you're quick enough it will prompt you as follows:

The hard drive on my laptop is partitioned with 2 different operating Systems. There seems to be difficulty with the preferences of one of the systems and I anm unable to boot from the other partition. I believe there is a shortcut at start up but I don't remember.

  • How to use RAM as scratch disk

    Hi,
I am very uncertain about this.
    I have a PC with RAM 20GB, Win 7 64 bits. Photoshop CS4.
I have set a hard disk partition as a primary scratch disk.
In the Preferences I have available RAM: 18488 MB
    I let Photoshop use 13000 MB (70%).
Every time that I do something on a picture in Photoshop the size of the Photoshop temporary file on the hard disk scratch partition grows.
It seems that my Photoshop uses the hard drive as the scratch disk.
I thought that Photoshop automatically should use extra RAM as a scratch disk.
Have I forgotten to do some setting, or is this the normal behaviour?
How can I force the scratch disk to happen in RAM?
    Thanks
    /LArry

    Perfectly normal, expected behavior.
Photoshop always uses a scratch disk, from the very instant you open an image file or create a new document.  Always.  No exceptions.

If that's a partition of your boot drive, it's futile and you're much better off leaving the boot drive unpartitioned so as to not limit either the Photoshop scratch disk or the OS swap files.  There's nothing to gain because the OS swap files and Photoshop's scratch disk are still competing for the use of the one set of read/write heads.
Bad move.  You're just potentially limiting either the Photoshop scratch disk or the OS swap files.

my mac disk is full and i cant transfer files from Mac to USB. saying the format is not good, how can i change the format and what happened to the files i have on USB?

Once something similar happened to me. The external drives I had set up for FCP to use for some reason were not mounted, and FCP put all its render files on the main drive and I couldn't find them anywhere.
Go to applications, and control-click (and hold down) on your FCP icon; you should get a pop up menu that says "show package contents". Select that, select the "contents" folder, then the "mac OS" folder. See if your quicktime file is in there, or if you've got render files in the "render" folder or audio render files in the "audio render" folder that don't belong there.
That's where FCP sticks stuff when your documents FCP project folders are not available or when external drives you've selected aren't available.

  • Changing the scratch disk to hard drive

Hello, I've read the forums on here on how to change the scratch disk. I have a Mac Book Pro and I've downloaded the trial version of Adobe Photoshop CC. I brought a Seagate Hard drive 4TB and it's installed and ready to go on my computer, but for some reason I still can't change it. Whenever I go to the Scratch Disk Preferences, the only option I have to change the scratch disk to, is to the Macintosh HD... What am I doing wrong? I don't have enough memory with the regular Mac.
Also, I tried the Command + Alt(option) right on cold starting the program, which brings up scratch disk preferences and, still, I do not get the option of changing it to the Back Up drive from Seagate. Help please.

how did you install the HD
how is it formatted (try using Apple's Disk Utility> Erase> Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

If you did not get an OS X install-restore DVD with the computer you may need
to buy one from somewhere, and you may be lucky to get a retail OS X 10.5.x
version. The original grey-label install set of software and OS X it shipped with
likely would be an older system than Leopard 10.5. Last versions of G4 Mac, &
G5, shipped with a Tiger 10.4 system; so did early Intel-based Mac. Grey discs
which accompanied other computer build models generally do not interchange.
The last OS X version a PowerPC architecture can use, if supported, is 10.5.8.
A PPC processor at 867MHz & faster should be able to run OS X 10.5 Leopard.
{With the correct disc installer, you can use it to change a password and other
    things including re-install, and perform disk utility functions, etc.}
There is a chance you may be able to get a white-label Replacement 10.4 DVD
or Replacement 10.5 DVD from AppleCare or the online Apple Store (800myapple)
from a Mac OS X system specialist; these have been available yet hard to get
as not all persons involved with them seem to know if they still exist until someone
is asking. These aren't retail stock, are special discs for computers who could use
a system later than original old discs; these are complete install discs not for one
specific series of Mac. Generally they'd work in supported PowerPC G4/G5; but
do not replace specialized original install DVD, such as an early Intel mac requires.
You'd need to have a serial number of the computer, and a method of payment
when seeking some replacement system media from Applecare or Apple sales
and these discs are not available in a retail store. The original Retail discs are
labeled differently and shipped in a retail box with a big X on the front. Other
sources for retail 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard may be online via amazon sellers
or computer resellers who handle repaired Macs. Avoid mystery grey label ones
that were intended to be sold and kept with their original computer kits.
    Good luck!

  • How can I change where an iTunes download is saving?

My iPod has a larger capacity than my computer's hard disk, so I bought an external drive to store my music on. I moved my iTunes library folder to this G: drive and instructed future downloads to be sent there as well. This has worked well.
Problem--I'm downloading a whole season of Grey's Anatomy from iTunes, but I had forgotten to turn on the G: drive until about 10 minutes into the download. I think the TV shows are being saved to my computer, because the computer keeps crashing every 5 minutes when I try to resume the download (because of not enough space on my hard drive.) Question: How can I change the save location of a purchase that has already been started?

  • How can I change the default  driver to OracleXADataSource in JDeveloper

    Hello,
How can I change the default oracle driver: oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver to oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource in JDeveloper Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.0.2, Build JDEVADF_MAIN.BOXER_GENERIC_090328.0229.5205.
If I modify the file connections.xml from jdeveloper\system\system11.1.1.0.31.52.05\o.jdevimpl.rescat2\connections in the sense that I change the driver class, then in JDeveloper when I test my connection I have this problem: Test failed: oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource cannot be cast to java.sql.Driver
Why do I need this XA version of the oracle driver? Well I tried, from a book to reproduce the model of an application: entities, stateless and stateful session beans, mdb, web services and a client to test one part of the model.
And because of the JMS server I need an XA driver.
I deployed to the integrated wls 10.3 and when I test my client, if I use the default driver for the connection the an error message appears tell me either to emulate two-phase commit or to use XA driver.
My application works very well, if I configured in the console of the integrated wls 10.3 a datasource with the same name as my ide/application connection that has for the Driver Class Name: oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource in the Connection Pool tab.
    Thank you.

Open DIsk Utility and in the toolbar select Disk Image. The file selector will open and you'll have to do three things: 1) just as with any file, name it and point the file selector to where you want it to be saved, 2) near the bottom you'll see name - type iWork 2013 and 3) below that select the image size. Click on size, choose custom and type 1500 MB then click on the Create button.
Some time will pass and then you'll see an external disk pop up on your desktop and/or the Finder window sidebar. Drag the three programs into it and eject it like any other external disk. Now delete the programs from your applications window.
Where ever it was you pointed the file selector to you'll see the file you created. Double click on it and the disk image will mount again.

  • How can I change a standard webservice

What steps are necessary for me to change the SAP webservice from SAP ESR?
I WANT to do this in ABAP.
I know that there are some BADIs and Enhancements spots available . But how does this fit into the whole Wesbservice interface.
    For example :
I want to add a new field to the input structure in the WSDL. This field will then have to be mapped to the BAPI and so on. How can  do this. have you come across anything like this? How does BADI work in this case.
    Details :
    http://esoadocu.sap.com/socoview/render.asp?packageid=DBBB6D8AA3B382F191E0000F20F64781&id=2828AC800DDD11DC2B24000F20DAC9EF
I want to be able to modify this service.
Add a parameter like DocumentStructure to the input which will let me create a document inside the folder.
I know that there is a proxy class in the backend CL_DMS_DOCUMENTCRTRC1 or something like that which calls the BAPI BAPI_DOCUMENT_CREATE2. This BAPI has the additional fields I am looking to map to.
How can I use BADI to accomplish my goals? how can I change the WSDL interface ?
How is this service tied to a Proxy class in the backend?
Am I getting ahead of myself? Is this do-able  or should I start from scratch ( expose my BAPI as a new WS )?
    Thanks for any pointers.
