I have no extensions active on my MacBook Pro. Running Yosemite 10.10.1 and I have on numerous times accessed Preferences and selected Google as my search engine and I continue to get Yahoo as me search engine. The change to Yahoo happen without my selecting it and I have always had Google. How can I change my search engine?

When I click on the + to open a new tab, I get the new tab page, which displays the previous sites I visit the most. No problem. But in the search window, if I do a search it uses Yahoo. had this problem after accidentally downloaded the yahoo toolbar along with an adobe product. Firstly, tried to remove it control panel in add/remove programmes but it refused to uninstal. Since then was told by technicians of my ip to use Revo uninstaller the free ed. Next step was go to tools then options. On the general tab, at the bottom you will find manage-add-ons. under search provider do not want. f yahoo is still there disable it.
Also go to internet options in control panel and set up there too. Be sure to find and tick the option that other search engines cannot change yours. Be sure to set the appropriate home page.

Easiest way to change the search is to install 3rd party freeware Inquisitor. After installing it, restart Safari. Go to Safari Preferences. Click on the arrow at the far end of the menu panel. You'll see an hour-glass icon. Click on it to open the Inquisitor panel. Click on the search engine drop-down menu and select your preferred search engine.

How do I change Default search engine in the address bar, not the search window on the top right or by using about:config, doesn't work. Worked fine until this FF 8.0 update, now defaults to Yahoo 7. About to throw it in and use Chrome.

When Firefox 8.0 installed it has automatically changed my address bar default search engine to Yahoo7 which is crap. I can not change this back. So when I start FF it opens to my google home page, when I type a subject and search the results are displayed in a Yahoo 7 results page, not google. I am not talking about my default home page or the search bar to the top right. This is still google.
The settings in about:config do nothing.
This was fine until FF 8.0.

Nice effort but that answers a different question about fixing the add-on Yahoo toolbar.
Pernich and I want to know; If you type search criteria directly into the address bar and hit enter, how to change that search engine from Yahoo to Google.
Otherwise I too will go back to using Google Chrome, even though I really like FF8.0

the content on the pages, (photo gallery, My Recipes/Blog, History, Friends) need to be formatted to HTML, PHP or CSS. No search engines (google, Yahoo, Bing) can crawl//analyze webpages built with javascript.
See if Apple allows iweb to create the pages in HTML format and ask how to make those changes.
I spend more then 1 hour on the phone with them but we didn't find the solution...

The part of iWeb pages that give the search engines problem is the navbar. That's javascript based. One way to get around that is to create another blank page in the site that's not included in the navbar.
Add a text based navbar in that page with just the other pages in the site.
Also you can use that page for creating the sitemap for Google at Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator.

I know in previous incarnations of Foxfire I could use about:config and change Keyworld.url to change my default search engine. I recently reset my Foxfire because I've been having issues with the Origin website and.. now it's defaulted back to Google. I do not want to use google. How do I change this? I do not want a search bar, I do not wanna change things in a search bar. I just want the address bar to work the way I've always had it work for me before. Can ANYBODY help me?

I want to change the default on the ADDRESS bar. The main bar and only bar I have. The one that if you type in anything, it automatically searches Google and there seems to be no way to change it. You could change it before by going to about:config and changing Keyword.url, but Foxfire removed that. Now.. I want to take the Address bar off it's default of Google and switch it to something else.

You can modify the pref keyword.URL on the about:config page to use Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" or Google's "Browse By Name".

So, to achieve something like that you have to build that content in HTML and build some kind of index that points to the precise location of each item to be retrieved and them make that work with the needed buttons and form fields and...
