How can I connect Apple TV to iMac with ethernet

AppleCare told me to plug the Apple TV into the iMac using ethernet to transfer the iTunes content faster with less glitches.  But how do I see the Apple TV screen on my iMac to configure it???  When I connect Apple TV using ethernet, nothing appears on the iMac screen.

This only applies if you have a first generation Apple TV. Also I hope you have a router and are not connecting the ATV directly to the iMac.
Usually I sync my First Generation Apple TV wirelessly, but sometimes I'll have some huge media files I want to sync on it which can take a long time. In those cases all you do is connect your Apple TV via ethernet cable to the same router your iMac is connected to. Don't worry about it not being connected to a tv because all you are going to do is SYNC your Apple TV. If you do not see your Apple TV in iTunes, turn off the Apple TV, and quit iTunes. Then turn on the Apple TV first, wait a minute and then start iTunes. Once iTunes sees the Apple TV, manage your content, then sync it.
Once the Apple TV has completed its sync, quit iTunes. Unplug your Apple TV, and then put the device back by the TV you want to enjoy the content on.
I have done such a thing a few times and it works flawlessly.

  • How can I connect Bluetooth in iPad retina with non apple devices ?

How can I connect Bluetooth in iPad retina with non apple devices ?

    What devices?
The iPad can only pair with earphones, speakers and keyboards.
It cannot directly pair with other phones or computers for file transfer or other operations.
Most Bluetooth devices will have a user guide to connect them to other devices. follow that to start the process.
From the iPad side, its just a matter of going inot Settings->BlueTooth turning it on, and searching for the device to pair.

  • How can I create a new TC backup with ethernet, so I don't have to wait two days for a new wireless backup?

How can I create a new TC backup with ethernet, so I don't have to wait two days for a new wireless backup?
Several times in the last year, I've gotten a message that Time Machine needs to completely redo my backup. Using the wireless connection, this takes almost two days. Is there a way to do the backup with ethernet and then switch back to wireless? Thanks.

May I know what is needed to make sure the MacBook is able to see Time Capsule on ethernet?
Connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the 2Wire gateway to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the Time Capsule.
If AirPort Utility cannot "see" the Time Capsule now, you will need to perform a "hard reset" by holding in the reset button for 7-8 seconds or so and then reconfigure the Time Capsule. You can use the same Time Capsule name and password, etc. as before.
Configure the Time Capsule to "Create a wireless network" and select the Bridge Mode option when it appears during the setup using AirPort Utility.
Once the Time Capsule is configured, restart the entire network again. Power down everything, start the 2Wire first and then start each other device after that one at a time about a minute apart.
Now you can connect your Mac directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule for the backup using another Ethernet cable. In general, about 20-25 GB per hour will transfer.
The Time Capsule will broadcast a much faster wireless network than the 2Wire can provide, so you might want to leave the setup "as is" for awhile after the first backup is complete. If you decide to use the Time Capsule as your main wireless access point, you would want to turn the wireless off on the 2Wire since two wireless networks in close proximity can create interference problems.
Or, if you want to use the wireless on the 2Wire, you could turn off the wireless on the Time Capsule. Then backups will occur over the 2Wire wireless, or over Ethernet.
I don't really recommend the "Join a wireless network" setting on the Time Capsule for most users, but you could go back to that setup as well if you want after the first backup is complete.

help connecting Apple TV to router with ethernet cable

The process is transparent. I have done it before.
Now, it gives me an error message when I try Wi-Fi:
"There was a problem connecting to the network. Check your settings and try again.(5)"
When I try the ethernet cable connection it won't let me do automatic or custom.
I unplugged and replugged the Apple TV box but don't know how else to trouble shoot the lack of connectivity.

  • How can i connect a windwos vista laptop with time capsule. Both are still in the same network

    Hi,
i have a running wlan network. In this network are a macbook pro, a Vista notebook and the time capsule. The Macbook runs perfectly with the time capsule, but how can I connect the vista machine with the time capsule?
    Thanks for help

The TC is SMB (windows networking protocol) compatible.
Is the issue wireless? Can you get internet via the TC?
Are you trying to access the hard disk?
Did you load the airport utility for windows..? If not please do so.. that at least is the first step. It loads bonjour for windows, and a connection agent.
Sometimes that is all that is required.
Open a windows explorer and type in the address bar
\\TCname or \\TCIPaddress .. obviously replacing the generic name with actual name or IP.
You might need to change all the names to SMB standard via the utility. Short no spaces pure alphanumeric.
You might need to fix the permissions.. ie turn on the guest account if security isn't an issue.
You might need to fix networking in the vista .. shudder.. notebook.. to ensure it is not blocking the TC.

  • How can I connect Apple tv to a digital projector that does not have an HDMI connection?

I work in an elementary school library where we have 6 macs and 11 iPads.  I want to be able to share the output of each of these machines with Apple TV on a digital projector which does not have HDMI capability.  How can I do this?  I had been using an app called Refector with limited success.

Open a program and drag the window over to the tv. You are using extended display mode.

  • Can I connect a 24" 2008 iMac with a new 5k iMac?

I have a 24" IMAC from 2008 and I want to buy a new 27" 5K IMac, will I be able to connect the two of them and my wife use one and I use the other with shared files? What is the best way to do this? Thanks for the help
    Mike

OK, the old computer is connected via Ethernet to your router, which you stated has Wi-Fi capabilities. The new computer can also be connected via Ethernet or it can be connected via Wi-Fi, you have that choice.
As far as your email that will arrive on as many devices as you have the email account set up.
While I am happy to answer your questions, I really think you should visit an Apple Store (AS) or your local Apple reseller if no AS is available. Then  you can tell ask your questions and they can show you how to set up what you want. The trouble with forums is we are not there face to face and gettng the whole picture isn't always easy, nor can we read each others minds or can I show you how to do something one on one.
Also as I mentioned in my first post when you buy any new Mac it comes with 90 days of free AppleCare telephone support and they can help you customize or troubleshoot. IMHO it is also wise to buy AppleCare which extends the warranty from one year to 3 years and also includes telephone support for 3 years. You can buy AppleCare directly from Apple or you can get it for less from resellers such as Amazon and B&H Photo.

  • How can I connect to my printer directly through ethernet?

I have a Lexmark laserjet printer that's connected directly to my eMac's ethernet connection. I also have a third party usb wireless LAN adaptor that connects to my room mate's old airport to provide internet to me.
I can't find a setting with my Network Preferences control panel that allows the usb device to bring in the internet while the printer is connecting to my ethernet connection. I would think that usb device would connect through TCP/IP and the printer would connect through AppleTalk via ethernet connection. But I seem to be able to only do one or the other but not both.
I would like to find a Network setting that allows both connection to happen simultaneously.

I do not see your printer listed here:
    About AirPrint - Apple Support
You need to buy the right printer.
The iPad uses a print technology called AirPrint. Airprint is a particular communication protocol that flows over WiFi.  So, having a WiiFi printer isn't sufficient. The printer needs to be of an Airprint variety of WiFi.
which I can't connect to laptop either.
    I'd contact epson.
Once you get the printer working, you can...
printing to a non-airprinter from an iPad
To print from the iPad, your going to have to install some more software:
-- install a printer app on the ipad. many printer makers have iPad applications for their printers.  Look in the app store
-- install enabling software on a computer which you have connected the printer

  • How can i connect my iphone 4 s with itunes? itune does not recognise the iphone when it is connected

Hi, i have received an iphone 4s from japan! whwn i connect it to my pc, itunes does not recognise it. what can i do?

For this issue you might try a couple things.
First, try to restart the Apple Mobile Device service by clicking Start and searching for Services. Stop the service, then restart the service.
If that doesn't work, you can remove and reinstall iTunes.

  • How can you transfer files from an iMac with a bad logic board?

This is in reference to my "Nothing but a blue screen at startup!" post. He took his iMac to an Apple authorized repair shop and he was told that the logic board was shot. He has decided to get a new iMac but he's wondering about all the photos and other files he has on the old hard drive. What are the ways that he can get files from the old hard drive on to his new one when he gets it? Thanks in advance for your help with this!
    Eric

    Hi Eric!
roam's method is a very good one!
I don't know if this will work because of the bad Logic Board, but another way, may be to use Firewire Target Disk Mode.
The ailing iMac would have to be Firewire enabled, and you would need access to another Firewire Mac.
    Good Luck!

  • How can I connect to sun fire v125 with serial mgr port by hyperterminal

    Hi there!
My c.o. got a sun fire v125 server. My mission is finish setting up the server. But as I followed the sun
fire v125's document, it aint be connected to this server with serial mgr port by using windows xp hyperterminal .
    My step as:
step1. Find the original RJ45 net cable from the v125 box, and put one side into
    Serial MGR Port of V125.
step2. Combined the RJ45 net cable's other side with DB-9 converter,
then plug the DB-9 converter into the PC's serial port(9 pins).
step3. start the pc(windows xp sp2), and then creat a hyperterminal link in COM1 as:
    Bits/Sec--9600, DataBits--8, Parity--None, Stop bits--1, Flow control--Xon/Xoff
And then pause connect. make it hang up.
step4. push the sun fire v125 power button. after 1mins, resume the hyperterminal,
    connect to the v125.
as above all is all my step here. Somewhere incorrect?if theres no problem, why can't I receive the
    "sc> " promote?
Theres only one thing what i can do is input from keyboard....?
I had known that there will be promoted the "sc> " after you start the connection of hyperterminal with the correct steps?
BTW,I had input "#." with enter key, but it doesnt work!
Is there anybody met this problem as mine? Or can you give me some hits?
    Thank you for your reading.

Im sorry for replying so late.
I'd solved it long time ago.
finally I found I made a mistake that I connect the Serialport Cable which came from PC
to the RJ45(NIC) port which came from Sun Server :-@
If you still can not get the prompts, check these parameters of your hyperterminal:
connect a terminal or a terminal emulator (PC or workstation) to the SC serial management port.
Configure the terminal or terminal emulator with these settings:
    * 9600 baud
    * 8 bits
    * No parity
    * 1 Stop bit
    * No handshaking
