How can I connect my old macbook pro hard drive, which has been removed, to a new computer

I had to remove the hard drive from my 2010 Macbook Pro due to damages motherboard (son spilled apple juice). I bought a new macbook pro and need to pull some data offf the old on. I had the hard drive removed and see the pin connector. What type of cable do I need to connect this via usb, firewire or thunderbolt

  • How can I connect an old macbook pro...

How can I connect an old macbook pro with that does NOT have a Thunderbolt connection to a new 27 inch iMac? I only need to do this for one specific purpose, to be able to see the work I'm doing on the laptop in InDesign on the iMac's larger screen (at a larger size as it were, so I can see a double page spread (or even a whole page would be an improvement) in one go)?  I gather it might be possible to get an adaptor but note that Apple don't seem to sell one. I know I could do this with the cinema screen but would rather do it with a new imac as that will have more use to me overall. It's a work laptop which I don't own so I don't own the Indesign to just be able to use that on an iMac. I have tried to connect monitors to the laptop in the past, but with no success at all.  I hope someone can help . Thank you.

Im pretty sure you are talking about the M8536 which has an ADC Adapter.
you will have to daisy chain a thunderbolt to DVI adapter with an DVI to ADC Adapter.
    the first adapter:

The second adapter is old so you may find used ones on ebay like this:

After you have installed the OSX on the new HDD in your MBP, install the old HDD in an enclosure and connect it to your MBP via USB.  Then try to drag and drop  your data to the new HDD.
If this proves unsuccessful, you may look for data recovery software on the Internet.  There will be free trails to see if it will work or not.  If the trial suggests that it will work, then you will have to purchase the software.
The last resort is a professional data recovery service that will offer NO guarantees and charge a lot of money.
As you now can appreciate, backups eliminate such predicaments.

  • How can I put my old Macbook Pro early 2010 audio on my new Samsung HDTV?

I bought a Macbook Pro in March 2010 that does not support HDMI audio. So, when I am plugging my Macbook Pro on my new Samsung Series 5 5500 HDTV with a HDMI cable that supports audio, I am getting the image, but no audio. When I go to System Preferences there is no choice of Samsung TV as audio output, which makes sense since my Macbook Pro is too old (only mid-2010 Macbook Pro supports HDMI audio).
I then bought a 3.5mm to RCA cable and linked my computer via the headphone jack to the only composite audio plug I have at the back of my TV (see the picture below). I was expecting this setting to work perfectly fine but actually I am not getting any sound from my TV.
I know that some people are using a cable with two 3.5 mm male ends to connect the Macbook Pro to the TV, but my TV does not have any input for a 3.5mm cable (which is strange since the TV is quite new).
Is the only solution to get audio from my Macbook Pro on my HDTV would be to buy a new Macbook Pro or there is another alternative?
Thanks a lot for any hint!

    Hi B,
It looks like you'd have to run component video in order to use the RCA inputs that go with the component inputs. Notice there is no separate audio input with the HDMI port.
A work-around would be to run the RCA audio to a receiver/amp and through its speakers. Still another way would be if you had a receiver/amp which allowed you to combine RCA audio with HDMI video, then you could run the HDMI, now carrying both audio and video, to your TV's HDMI input.

That is "activation lock". You won't be able to use the iPhone unless this is cleared by the original owner.

  • Can I back up my MacBook Pro hard drive on Backup Plus Slim disk, while upstreaming photos to the iCloud?

Hello, I have never backed up my MacBook Pro since I bought it 3 years ago (ouch) and I have never saved anything on the iCloud. I am on a catching up mission now. I upgraded my OS to Yosemite, set up iCloud and started upstreaming all my photos (more than 4,000) into iCloud. I also bought a Backup Plus Slim disk to do a full back up of my Mac's HD using Time Machine. The problem is that at the moment my internet is slow due to problems in the area I live (being fixed but it will take days). I started the upstream of my photos over a day ago and I still have more than 3,000 left to do. I would like to start the back up process onto the external disk in parallel (too long a story to explain why here), but I am not sure whether the two processes will be able to work together?
    Thanks for letting me know.

  • How do i know if my macbook pro hard drive is working properly

hello guys  yes im just curious my  mac is working fine  but im wondering does installing and removing bootcamp can damage the hard drive or turn it off pressing the power bottom? how to take care of the hard drive or what are the signal of a failing hard drive... thanks

    Frankiekelly,
whenever possible, use “Shut Down…” from the Apple menu to shut down your Mac, so that the filesystem is not left in an unclean state. Forcing a shutdown by holding down the power button for several seconds should only be done as a last resort, since there is a chance that a disk write could be interrupted by that forced shutdown, and thus leave some area of your disk damaged, either virtually (if a filesystem change is interrupted) or physically (if a drive’s head is in contact with the disk at that precise moment). Neither installing nor removing a Boot Camp partition should damage your drive. Just apply common sense to take care of your drive: don‘t drop it, don’t get it wet, ensure adequate ventilation around your Mac to let its fans do their job, &c.
If you’re curious about the state of your drive, open System Information and select ▼ Hardware → Storage on the left-hand side of the window, and look at the value of the “S.M.A.R.T. Status” of the disk on the right-hand side of the window. If it shows “Verified”, then all is well.

  • How can I find saved movies on my hard drive?

I am trying to clean out my hard drive by putting a lot of pictures and videos on an external hard drive.  I went through all my saved videos that were in Iphoto and transfered them to the hard drive and then deleted them.
When I open up my storage information it still says I have 84 GB of videos on my Macbook Pro hard drive, which doesn't make sense because I just transfered and deleted 77 GB of video.(Had 84 to start with)  I tried searching the hard drive but I have no clue where else the videos could be saved.
    Can anyone help??

  • I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extrem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptops hard drive??

I can not store all my Music on my internal Macbook pro hard drive so I am storing it on a large external drive connected to my airport extreme (2 TB drive plugged into the USB port).  I see the drive on my laptop and I can add and delete files no problem.  How do I get Itunes to search for the music here with out trying to copy it to my laptop's hard drive?  I don't have enough space to do that.

How did you move the music to the external drive?  What exactly is on the drive?  The entire iTunes folder or only music?  If it is the entire iTunes folder you can do the option+start suggestion earlier.  If you copied only music and did so by dragging it there then you need to delete it again and consolidate/organize it there instead so iTunes tracks the move.  iTunes 12 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH19507

  • My macbook pro hard drive died.  I only have a windows hard drive and an old powerbook G4 which of course you can't use to create a boot disk for my macbook.  How can I solve this?

I can't get app store on my old power book to download OS X,  My macbook pro hard drive died and all I have is a windows hard drive, still has windows os  on it, a 500 Gb USB drive and this power book.  How can I get my macbook back up without spending money?  Thanks

And what happens if the OPs Mac is of a newer version that came with a version of Snow Leopard above the 10.6.3 version that is on that Retail, meant for Upgrade, disc? Like if it came with 10.6.4/.5/.6/.7? That disc you linked to would not work.
He needs to contact Apple and get a replacement set of Original System Reinstall Discs. That is the only way he can be assured it will work and he would also get the iLife apps which he wouldn't buying that DVD disc you linked to.
    dwb wrote:
The Snow Leopard DVD is $20 from Apple. You'll just have to wait a few days. BTW this is a full installer that works with any model computer that can run SL. Apple used to ship recovery/installation disks that were tied to specific computer models so that a 15" MBP installer disk coudn't be used on a 13" MBP computer. So you need either full installer or the recovery disks for your specific model.
And BTW, I have a 2009 13" MBP w/8GB RAM that is running Mavericks. With a 5400 RPM drive I used to experience a bit of beach balling (think hour glassing) but an SSD has given it new life. It feels now slower than the newest MBPs - it obviously benchmarks considerably slower but in everyday use it doesn't feel like a 4 1/2 year old computer at all.

How can I make sure my MacBook Pro stays connected to my wireless printer?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Simply make sure that your printer is on and connected to the same wireless network as your MacBook. In this case, you can be sure your Mac is connected to the printer
