How can I control a driver using Matlab?

For a lab project I have to program in matlab a driver (esp300 by Newport - http://www.newport.com/store/product.aspx?id=3229) that commands a motorized stage of the same company. The interface is GPIB. I rather control the driver using only matlab, but if i can't - i wan't to use Labview as a connector between the two. any idea how can i do one of the above? I've got no idea where to start from. I'll thank to any given advise.

What is the analysis that ou need to perform. The resources that are available to you from within LV is very complete!

  • How can I control external devices using a touch screen with a standalone LabVIEW app

For my senior design project my group and I created a hybrid extended range vehicle with 90 Li+ Batteries thats charged by a 15 kW generator and/or that is also being charged by a 5 kW fuel cell. Currently, our system is capable of measuring voltages off of the batteries and displaying them on a laptop via LabVIEW. To process this data, we are using a cRIO FPGA. What we would like to do now is have a touch screen for the driver to choose what power source charges the batteries as well as monitor a pressure reading coming from the fuel cell tank.
What sort of small touch screens allow for LabVIEW to be uploaded on and used for controls?
Does a cRIO have the capability to power such a screen and handle the data transfer from the fuel sensor and switching relays (for switching on and off powersources)?
Do I need an additional license for creating standalone applications and how would i go about creating a standalone app?
sorry for so many question. Any reply helps. Thanks!

That sounds like a pretty interesting project.  If you are interested, National Instruments hosts a Student Design Competition where you can win cash or a trip to Austin for NIWeek.

NI does sell Touch Panel computers that can be used to control LabVIEW applications.  You can find more information here: HMIs and Industrial Touch Panels and here: LabVIEW Real-Time and Touch Panel Deployment and Replication Resources. Our 6-inch touch panel computers run Windows CE, so programming on them is a little different than programming on a full Windows OS.  You may find the Getting Started with the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module useful.
You can use third party devices with the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module, although you will need a deployment license for it.  More information can be found in the getting started guide.
If you were able to send the cRIO information over a network (which from your description sounds unlikely), you may be able to use a smartphone to control your application.  More information can be found on our Community Smartphone Group.

If you were using the 6-inch touch panels, they require 18 to 32 VDC (the fuse becomes an open circuit if input level exceeds 33 VDC).  The data transfer from the switching relays can be monitored and changed with the touch panel.

If you went the touch panel route, you would need to purchase the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module, and a touch panel.  The NI touch panels come with a touch panel deployment license.  Step-by-step guides for creating the standalone app can be found in the Getting Started with the LabVIEW Touch Panel Module guide.

  • How can I control which apps use cellular data?

Sometimes I marvel at Apple's amazingness and sometimes I can't believe the holes.  Googling around I get the impression that iOS/iPhone provides no means for a user to take control of their data plan and set which apps are permitted to use cellular data and to track cellular data usage on an app by app basis.  Am I the only one that finds it unbelievable that an operating system designed for a cell phone that supports adding piles of sometimes sketchy 3rd party apps doesn't have this baked right in?  There seem to be a few apps try monitor overall aggregate data usage, but they are useless at getting to the root cause.
So, I hope I'm just missing it.  How do I figure out which broken, buggy, misconfigured app I stupidly installed is eating my data plan?  Maybe Android is a better choice for guys like me that are too busy to play whack a mole uninstalling and reinstalling apps for hours and days to try to solve such a tedious mystery.
    Thanks!

  • How can I control a LabView VI using a C++ script/program?

    Hi,
I am a developer of a satellite communications system that is being used in
a satellite project I am working on at the University of Colorado - Boulder.
The project is called 3CS. We have built a simple LabView program that uses
some of the server routines to transfer data via TCP/IP protocol. The basic
VI initializes the radio hardware at the site the satellite is currently
over and then opens a data stream. The data is then downloaded back to our
servers via secure VPN. My question is this: How can I control a VI using
a language like C++ to execute certain parts of the VI. I basically have a
VI that listens for radio packets. My program then strips off the satellite
    radio ID and protocol information
. I need to get this information into the
VI remotely through a C++ script. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,

    Hello fellow Boulderite,
The easiest way would probably be to use the application builder to create a DLL from the VI. The other option is to use the LabVIEW ActiveX interface. There are some examples of using C++ to control LabVIEW in the example library of the NI Developer Zone.

I think this is probably a sign that your network could be better than it is.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

Here's my take on the same thing:
Short answer: the dpi is set when you decide what size you're printing at.
Long Answer: Dpi means nothing in the digital world of your computer. There are no "inches" to have "dots per..." Size is measured in pixels. That's the same on your camera. It doesn't take 10 x 8 or 6 x 4 shots. It takes shots measured in megapixels. For instance 4,000 x 3,000 is a 12 megapixel camera.
Using that example, that shot from that camera has 12 million pixels. So that's how many "Dots" there are. To decide the ratio of dots per inch, you now need to decide the "inches" part. And that's printing. Print at 10 x 8 and the dpi will be 4,000/10 or about 400 dpi. At 6 x 4 then it's 4,000/6 or 660 dpi. Work the other way: Print at 300 dpi and the resulting image will be about 13 inches on the longer side.
So, your photo as a fixed number of pixels. Changing the dimensions of the print will vary the dpi, changing the dpi will vary the dimensions of the print.

  • How can I control the order of iDVD menu items using the Arrow keys?

I have a submenu screen containing 10 selectable buttons plus the Return Arrow button.  I have ordered all the slideshows in the correct order in the DVD map.  However, when I run the program, the arrow keys jump the selection focus in an apparently random sequence.  How can I control the order of the selection focus?
    I'm using iDVD v 7.1.2
    TIA.

    Hi
There is one thing You might miss in iDVD - So do I - the ability to re-arrange in the DVD map (block diagram)
The order things will be pplayed or addrssed is same as the order each item is introduced into iDVD.
To my knowledge ther is no way around this.

  • How can I control instrument using its RS232 port in VB or VC++?

1)How can I control instrument using its RS232 port in VB or VC++?
2)What's the module or .h file need I add-in to VB or VC++?
3)Can you provide me some easy examples for that?
    Thanks!

    Kevin,
I've used Measurement Studio - Tools for Visual Basic and Tools for Visual C++ (ActiveX component) for instrument control.
I've used both the VISA and non VISA versions and they are pretty straight forward to use for GPIB, Serial or VXI.

  • How can we control the standard filed using CUF?

    Hello
We use SRM Server 5.5 (SP 07)
We want to make the Price field as display on shopping cart screen.
We created CUF for PR type. We have PR01 and PR02.
If PR type is PR01, we want to make Price field as display.
So We tried to use BBP_UI_CONTROL_BADI. But this BADI is not working.
We found notes for this badi and applied this note to our system.
    Notes number:
    1053594
    1046796
    1040879
    1058238
    1021742
But we still have problem. The parameters IS_HEADER and IS_ITEM are not filled.
How can we control price field as display, when we choose the PR type with PR01?
    Thank you,
    Best Regards,
    SH.

    Hi,
You can use the BADI BBP_DOC_CHANGE_BADI along with BBP_UI_CONTROL_BADI.Check the Transaction type calue in BBP_DOC_CHANGE_BADI  badi and acc set a flag(using SET stmt) and pass this flag to the BBP_UI_CONTROL_BADI(using GET parameter) and then change the Field property for PRICE field.

  • How can i control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?

    Sup buddies,
How can I control what images load on my project to save preload time and avoid loading all images, elements, divs not yet visible?
As the project grows in size the load time increases. How does one control not loading all images ,divs, elements etc. until they're
needed on the timeline? For example some sections are off and only become visible when recalled. My projects slowly grow in size so loading
all images , is counter productive . My other option would be to create separate htmls but that breaks the seamless user experience .

    hello, kiwi
quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.
