How can i convert a DVD(video_ts, vts, etc.) to use in iMovie?

HI
i have a DVD that I'd like to convert for use in iMovie. its composed of the following files. How can I do this?
VTS010.BUP
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS011.VOB
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS010.IFO

Try this:
The following is AppleMan's recommendation for using MPEGStreamclip:
+I have found I get the best results when I use MPEG Streamclip (which is free). You also have to install the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component which costs about $20. Once you install the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component, you don't have to interact with it, but MPEG Streamclip needs it.+
+Insert your DVD in your drive. If DVD player runs automatically, shut it down. You should see your DVD as an icon on the desktop. Open it is a finder winder. You should see a folder which has VOB files.+
+Open MPEG Streamclip and drag these VOB files into Streamclip. If it offers to fix timecode breaks, say yes. You can do the VOB files one by one if you want to deal with shorter clips. Or, you can drag all the VOB files at once and create one long clip, or use streamclip to separate them into smaller clips.+
+In Streamclip, select File/Export using Quicktime and choose Apple Intermediate Codec. You may want to check "Deinterlace" in this step. Try deinterlacing and see if you like it. It depends on your final target media as to whether this will help.+
+Now you should have MOV files in Apple Intermediate Codec which can be imported into iMovie.+

  • How can I convert copied DVD's to play on iTunes/Apple TV?

I'm trying to convert my DVD collection to hard drive to play on my TV using Apple TV.  I can rip the DVD's to HD, but don't know how to get them into iTunes so that Apple TV can access them.  Any suggestions?

Assuming you have .avi or mkv files on your hard drive ( or most other formats!) download Vuze - the basic software is free - I've been using it for almost a year- never had lypsync problems. And it asks you what device you'll be sync'ing iTunes with the optimise the format.
    Way no

Handbrake is an excellent program. However, it will not bypass the encryption on a commercial DVD.
That's why Handbrake requires you also install VLC.  It uses VLC to decrypt the DVDs.
Unfortunally, sometimes you come across a DVD with "extra" encryption that VLC can't decrypt.  In which case, MakeMKV usually works.

I have some great DVD's of lectures that I would like to convert to CD's and hand them out.

You'll want a tool like Handbrake. It'll rip your DVDs and convert them to almost any  format you want.

I would like to put a couple of dvd's on for my daughter?

I guess you will need the QuickTime MPEG-2 playback component from Apple (20$), as well as MPEG Streamclip (free) or QuickTime Pro (30$).
Once you have these tools, I guess you could select the movie in QT Pro, and export as QT Movie (h.264). I don't know if you have to constrain the image to 320 by 240, but I guess yes. As I don't use QT Pro very often, I can't remember how to do it, but it should be possible.
I suppose you could do pretty much the same thing with Streamclip, but I've only used it once ...
You will have to get a ripper such as MacTheRipper to save the DVD to disk and get rid of the different protections.

How can I upload movies from Sony pj580v camcorder to use with imovie 11?

Transfer it to your computer and import into iTunes, make sure it's in a compatible format. Then simply sync with the iPad. If you have a camera connection kit and you know the footage is compatible you can connect it directly.

  • How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that it can be played and streamed from my Mac?

How can I convert DVD- video into Apple's format so that I can play the content on my Mac and also stream it to my Apple TV? A few years ago, I transferred all of my home videos onto DVD but now would really like to put these onto my Mac and stream them through Apple TV to watch on the "big screen". Any advice would be most welcome!! Thanks

    MPEG Streamclip.
Apple do not have their "own" format. You need to convert your DVDs to H.264 though.

  • How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money?

How can I convert my Tiger DVD into a CD without spending more money and time? I've spent over seven hours trying to upgrade an iMac 350 Hz OS 9.1 to Tiger. I have changed the iMac firmware to 4.1.9, but found that my Panther disc was only an OSX Upgrade, although the 3 cds are labeled as Installation Discs. Since I have a Tiger disc I thought I would use that. Unfortunately, my iMac only reads CDs, not DVDs. I tried networking the iMac to my G5, but upon shutdown, the OSX disc cannot be accessed. I copied the DVD files to my iMac hard drive, but again, the OSX disc cannot be accessed after shutdown.
Is there a way I can burn a CD from the files of my Tiger DVD to get this task accomplished?

Excuse me, but I never thought of that, nor did I have any intention of trying to rip off your company.
I purchased four iPods for my family this Christmas. I have six iMacs just sitting around not being used. I thought that I would turn one into an iPod work station, so everyone can use one computer to recharge and hook up to iTunes 7.
Unfortunately, iTunes does not work very well in OS9. Apple decided not to continue to support OS9 very well. I’ve spent several hours attempting to upgrade the iMac so I could set up iTunes 7. Unfortunately, my 3 Panther Installation Discs were mislabeled, and did not allow me to install OSX over OS9. My OSX 10.2.7 Installation Disc is a DVD, and my Tiger Installation disc is a DVD. Neither usable to update the iMac.
All I want to do is set up a dumb iMac as a network interface to my G5 because I've use all of the G5's ports for our recording studio and the iPods need external power source if they are plugged directly into the G5.
If you could show me an easier way to run iTunes 7 on the iMac I wouldn't be as ****** off as I am at Apple for not supporting the 9 older computers I own with usable help and upgrades.

  • How can I convert MiniDV tapes to DVD? I've use a Canon GL 2 and an iMac about 1 year old. I'm trying to use iMovie and I've installed the latest drivers.

How can I convert MiniDV tapes to DVD? I've use a Canon GL 2 and an iMac about 1 year old. I'm trying to use iMovie and I've installed the latest drivers.

MiniDV was a great format, one I still use often. I also still use iMovie HD6 to process it and, for all the iterations of iMovie that followed it, I still believe it was one of Apple's greatest movie software programmes, next to Final Cut Pro, using a timeline method of editing. That was also in the day which Apple put Superdrives into their computers, so that you could not only make your movie in iMovie, but you could render it to iDVD and then burn the DVD. Now you need to buy an external burner.
Since iMovie HD6 and iDVD 6 were "universal" software, it has continued to work through the many OS releases since it came out with Tiger, I believe it was. So, it may still work with Mavericks too and, if you could locate a copy of iLife 06, probably used, you might enjoy the difference that HD6 has over all iMovie releases since then.
Not saying you can't process your MiniDV with current iMovie versions, but I'm not the one to speak about that.

  • How can I burn a dvd without themes?

how can I burn a dvd without themes?

    (From fellow poster Mishmumken: )
How to create a DVD in iDVD without menu (there are several options):
    1. Easy: Drop your iMovie in the autoplay box in iDVD's Map View, then set your autoplay item (your movie) to loop continously. Disadvantage: The DVD plays until you hit stop on the remote
    2. Still easy: If you don't want your (autoplay) movie to loop, you can create a black theme by replacing the background of a static theme with a black background and no content in the dropzone (text needs to be black as well). Disadvantage: The menu is still there and will play after the movie. You don't see it, but your disc keeps spinning in the player.
    3. Still quite easy but takes more time: Export the iMovie to DV tape, and then re-import using One-Step DVD.
Disadvantage: One-Step DVD creation has been known to be not 100% reliable.
    4. (My preferred method) Easy enough but needs 3rd party software: Roxio Toast lets you burn your iMovie to DVD without menu - just drag the iMovie project to the Toast Window and click burn. Disadvantage: you'll need to spend some extra $$ for the software. In Toast, you just drop the iMovie project on the Window and click Burn.
    5. The "hard way": Postproduction with myDVDedit (freeware)
    Tools necessary: myDVDedit ( http://www.mydvdedit.com )
    • create a disc image of your iDVD project, then double-click to mount it.
    • Extract the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a location of your choice. select the VIDEO_TS folder and hit Cmd + I to open the Inspector window
    • Set permissions to "read & write" and include all enclosed items; Ignore the warning.
    • Open the VIDEO_TS folder with myDVDedit. You'll find all items enclosed in your DVD in the left hand panel.
    • Select the menu (usually named VTS Menu) and delete it
    • Choose from the menu File > Test with DVD Player to see if your DVD behaves as planned. If it works save and close myDVDedit.
    • Before burning the folders to Video DVD, set permissions back to "read only", then create a disc image burnable with Disc Utility from a VIDEO_TS folder using Laine D. Lee's DVD Imager:
    http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html
Our resident expert, Old Toad, also recommends this: there is a 3rd export/share option that give better results.  That's to use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option.  Then in iDVD go to the Media Browser and drag the movie into iDVD where you want it.
    Hope this helps!

  • How can i convert 3d movie into 2d to watch it in mac

i have a movie with mkv file playable on vlc how can i convert the movie into 2d

There are now a bunch of them out there. Do a Google search for "mac 3D conversion" They tend to be around $35. I have been using iSkysoft products, which have been fairly easy to use. They have a "iMedia Converter Deluxe for Mac" that besides the 3D to 2D conversion, will also convert video to 70+ formats, has a 1-Click Video Downloader, and a single click Rip DVD and Burn to DVDs feature. Also claims to be "Ultrafast" all for the same price others apps are that only do the conversion.

  • How do I convert my DVD's to iPod

How do I convert my DVD movies with Quicktime so I can watch them on my iPod?
I don't see any options in QT, where is it buried?
I'm not going to spend any money for the Pro version until I see how it works.
    Many Thanks

To convert a DVD for iPod use, you'll need to use third-party software.
You'll first need decrypting software to remove the encryption on the DVD.
Then you'll need conversion software to convert the decrypted files into an iPod friendly format.
Sometimes, both of those tasks can be accomplished with one piece of software.
PQ DVD seems to be popular for Windows users, as well as ImTOO.
Many other titles have been mentioned in this forum. Your question gets asked, and answered, a lot.
Here are some search results for you to review. There's great information contained in these previous posts.

I know how to use it and do all the time, it's just hard to do it 'blind'.
