How can I convert a POP mail account to an IMAP account?

I have an existing Mail account set up with a POP incoming server.  How can I retain the email address but convert to using an IMAP incoming server (the ISP offers both)?

Even when the account is disabled ("enable . . ." is unchecked) the "Account Type" remains frozen and not available for changes.  I also tried, with the account disabled, to make the switch by changing the designation of the incoming mail server from"pop.ISP. . ."  This didn't change the Account Type -- it remained POP.

    Ah, yes, I see! Silly me to be looking for Sent mail under "Sent"! Indeed, there's a disclosure triangle next to the account name under "Inbox", and wen you open it, it shows Drafts, Sent, spam, and Trash. The sent items are indeed there.
    Mind you, my Dot Mac accounts show up normally, i.e., their sent mail goes under "Sent". Wish all IMAP accounts did that. It sure isn't logical to show sent mail inside an inbox...
    But to answer your question: In addition to having the "Sent" folder for the account under "Inbox", I also have a folder for the account under "Sent". This folder disappears when I check the box to store messages on the server. There were emails in it (the ones I placed there myself). I have now moved those emails to the sent sub-folder under the account under "Inbox". Even with the "store on server" option UNchecked, the emails were instantly duplicated to the server, so that they were present both locally and remotely. I then checked the "store on server box"; this made the mailbox for the account under "Sent" vanish.
    To summarize: things appear to work normally now, except that I find it very inconvenient to have to look in two separate "Sent" folders to find emails I've written.

  • How can I edit external e-mails accounts configurations I had on Mobile Me mail and now on iCloud?

    how can I edit external e-mails accounts configurations I had on Mobile Me mail and now are
    on iCloud?

    Thanks for the answer, but the external POP accounts I had in my MobileMe are working in my iCloud! I receive all the e-mails that are directed to those POP accounts, in my iCloud e-mail, since I migrated from Mobileme to iCloud. So, iCloud accepts external accounts, but i doesn't allow us to edit new configurations or to send e-mails using Pop Accounts through it. Very weird. Does anybody have a solution?

    How can I block all other mail account just to only use the exchange mailbox of our company? This is to prevent the user to setup his on company iPhone.

    I don't know if I'm asking this all in a way that can be understood? Thanks ED3K, however that part I do understand (in the link you provided!)
    What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
    Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
    Thanks again for "anyone" that can help me!!!

  • How can I convert a POP account to IMAP

    I have a POP account in the form [email protected], and I have just changed my hosting company from one that handles POP accounts only to one where accounts can be either POP or IMAP. The question is: how do I convert my existing POP account to IMAP? My main reason for wanting to do that is to keep the "Sent" folder synchronized so that Mail's sent item folder automatically gets stuff I send through web mail just like it does with my Dot Mac account.
    I tried removing the existing POP account; this causes any email associated with this account that has not been moved to an "On my Mac" folder to vanish. When I create an IMAP account, these mails don't reappear, even though the email address is the same. Recreating the POP account, though, brings these emails back to life.
    Of course, I can have both account definitions with the POP one having it's "include when automatically checking for new mail" checkbox unchecked, but that's really inelegant. Is there a way to convert the POP account into an IMAP account?

  • How can I manage my icloud mail account on my iPad since my apple id user is my gmail account?

    Hello,
    I'm unable to send and receive mails from my icloud account since when when trying to add this mailbox to my account IOS pops a message that says the my gmail account is already added.
    My apple user ID is my gmail account, could this be the problem?
    How can I be able to manage my icloud account in my iPad?
    Regards,
    DM

    Let's try deleting the iCloud account from your iPad, then adding it back.
    If you have any photo stream photos on your iPad, save them to your camera roll by opening your My Photo Stream alburm, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  The force close the Mail app by double-tapping the home button, locating Mail in the list at the bottom, tap and hold Mail until it wiggles, tap to close it, then tap the home button agian.
    Then to delete the iCloud account go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Delete from My iPad when prompted.  This only deletes the account and your iPad data from your iPad, not from iCloud.  Then go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in and turn on your sync settings, confirming that Mail is set to On.  Your iCloud data will reappear on your iPad after a brief delay as it redownloads.  Open Mail and see if your iCloud account is there now.

  • How can I get my old mail account back?

    I f&%€ up and deleted my old mail account after I had added my new one ( I've changed ISP). So all old mails disappeared.
    Is it possible to restore them my self? Or do I have to go to the Mac doctor?
    I'm greatful for all help

    Hi John and thank you.
    I use Mail.
    I deleted the settings for the old account by mistake - I just thought I wouldn't need it anymore after having set up the new one - and suddenly the inbox was empty. A not so nice surprise
    However I managed to find a folder named Mail with a POP - folder in it, in the trash can, which I dragged to my desktop. But I haven't been able to import it.
    I found some useful earlier threads and intructions from some David Gimeno, so I removed the .mbox extension from the INBOX.mbox file.
    BUT still, Mail won't import. It says it doesn't find any valid mbox files.
    The INBOX.mbox is about 12 Mb, so I recconed there would be something in it.

  • How can I set an outlook mail account to the mail app in mac

    My outlook mail account doesn't work in the mail app, it keeps asking for my password everyday, and the outgoing mail server says "outlook.com (dissconected)".

    I don't have Hotmail, but generally, web based email accounts need to be set up within that account (in this case Hotmail) - you need to go to your Hotmail account and check if it can be set up as an IMAP or POP account with emails automatically being forwarded to Mail. Hopefully someone with a Hotmail account will chime in with more specific info; in the meantime, check out the options in your account there.

  • GAH! How Can I Set Up My Mail Accounts?

    I have 15 email accounts in total, each with it's own unique 64 character password. Manually setting up email accounts on my devices is clearly not an option. No worries, because up until today, I simply synced my mail account data from iTunes. You only have to do it once, you don't need any sort of on-going email account data syncing. The accounts keep their own mail in sync, so the 'setup sync' was a one time deal. And I didn't sync the accounts with mobile me, or later icloud, because I wanted different accounts on differnet devices.
    Well I just got my new iPhone 5S and I'm trying to set up my mail. But I can't! There's no way to sync Mail data! I tried turning on iCloud Keychain (which was a complete disaster the first time I tried to use it, but I need my email!) I tried deleteing my iCloud account and re-adding it on my phone (and my old phone that I erased, and re-setting up as an iPod). But no matter what I do, I can't get any mail accounts to show up.
    I NEED my email on my phone. There is no way around it, I cannot function without that. I don't even put my phone number on my business cards any more, only email. Email HAS TO WORK. But thanks to Apple, I can't get it on there.
    It would seem that my only option is to get it to sync via iCloud Keychain? That's going to cause me an unlimited amount of headaches, but if that's the only way to get mail accounts to sync, then I guess that's what I have to do. But how do I do it? I have turned on iCloud Keychain on all of my devices and computers, but no mail accounts are syncing.
    All my Macs are currnetly on Mavericks, and all my devices (iPad mini, iPhone 4S deactivated, iPhone 5s) are on iOS 7.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    This type of service is offered by IMAP email accounts such as the me address that is associated with your iCloud account.
    Are you saying it isn't working or are you trying to add a third party address (ie gmail, yahoo etc etc) to your mail account and expecting it to work like an IMAP account.

  • How can I set up my mail accounts to sync sent and read messages automatically?

    I'm not sure how to set it up so  my flagged emails, sent messages, and read messages will show the same in my MacBook Pro and my MacBook Air.  This seems like it would be a simple problem to fix, but I can't figure it out.
    Thanks!!

  • How can I move most used mail accounts to appear at the top of the list when I open my mail app?

    I have updated iPhone4 to IOS7 and now my mail accounts are in new order.   I have several accounts but a few that need to be the most visible.  Not sure how iPhone mail app is sorting them but it sorting it but definitely not alphabetically or by most used.  Anyway, I finally figured out how to reorder them to suit me and, since help wasn't found on forum, thought I'd share:
    Open Mail App, then use "Edit" from top right.  You'll see a 3-bar icon to the right of each mail account.  Use it to slide accounts up/down to where you want them.  Works also for any Gmail accounts you might have.
    Sometimes it's the simple things

    cor-el, thanks for the tip. While I certainly scoured Adobe's preference settings to look for something relating to that exact thing, I never went to their help site until I got your post. I found out that the floating toolbar appears because the PDF opens in'' Read Mode'', which you can turn off for all future documents by doing this:
    * Quit your internet browser
    * Launch Acrobat (or Reader)
    * Choose Edit>Preferences
    * Click on the Internet category on the left
    * Deselect “Display in Read Mode by default”
    * Click the OK button.
    * Relaunch Acrobat
    Something important to note, if you have both Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Reader, you need to do the above in both programs (same steps).

  • How can I change the default mail account in mail v6.3

    I have in my mail preferences four accounts. The first one is a "Google IMAP" and all others are just "IMAP". When I'm composing a new email it defaults to the wrong account. Intuitively I think the the first account listed under mail preference would be the default one, but I'm unable to move the order. How to I change this?

    To change your default mail account, you just have to change the mail accounts order in the Mail sidebar. First of all, if you don't see your mailboxes under "Inbox" (at the top of the sidebar), press the arrow, and your mail accounts will appear.
    Now, you just have to drag the mail account you want by default to the first position

  • How can i make my e-mail account private on my wife's ipad

    How can I make my .mac account and my wife's gmail account private for each of us on the IPad?

    You can't - the iPad is essentially a single-user device. You could try providing feedback here to see if it makes it into a future iOS release http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html - you aren't the first person to enquire about this, and it's possibe that the more people who request it the more likely it is to appear.

  • Upgrading To SL By Erase And Install. How Can I Save All My Mail Accounts?

    I am thinking about erasing my HD and installing Snow Leopard.
    This will destroy all my Mail accounts and it takes ages to reinstall them as each one has to send off and receive info back from my ISP which can take 5 or more minutes.
    Is there something I can save to put back in SL that will allow me to continue using all my accounts instantly with no reconfiguring?

    Thank you. I had completely forgotten about TM ....... even though I only started using it 3 days ago!
    However, I have a friend with an early Intel iMac who is running Tiger and intends to upgrade to Snow Leopard.
    I assume he may be using an older version of Mail and of course he hasn't got TM.
    What precautions should he take or will he just have to reconfigure his accounts?
