How can I create a iCloud email address to replace a apple ID.

I am wanting to change my apple ID to an Icloud address but when I try the default is to create another apple ID - which I dont want to do. Is this possible?

If all you want is an additional email address you can create up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account.

When I received my iphone 4s 3 years ago the my apple id and icloud email addresses were the same, it was a student email from the college I attended. That's definitely not supposed to happen. You shouldn't have someone else's iCloud email linked to your ID.
You'll have to get iCloud support to sort this one out. The only way to contact them is to start here: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/. You'll have to provide your iPhone serial number. Unless it's within the 90 day free support window, or you purchased AppleCare, there will be a charge. I suppose you can plead your case when they answer that you shouldn't be charged as you didn't set up this address and it shouldn't have happened with your ID.

That's Activation Lock. You will need to remember the Apple ID and password you used to set up the phone.
If you can't remember them, you can go to iforgot.apple.com to try to recover the information.
If you are the original owner of the phone & have proof of purchase, you can try calling Apple to see if they can assist also.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
Providing you are simply updating your existing details and not changing to another account, when you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your computer, you need to sign out of the account from your computer first, then sign back in using your updated details. (System Preferences > iCloud, click the sign out button)
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iTunes account on your iOS device, you need to sign out from your iOS device first, then sign back in using your updated details. (Settings > iTunes & App store, scroll down and tap your ID)
If you are using iMessages or FaceTime, you will also need to log out and into your ID there too.

If you own a iOS5 idevice like a ipod touch you are eligible to use icloud. This will preserve your current Email and Adress Book data after MobileMe dies next year.
Else you would need to purchase a Lion capable Mac or set up a Vista/Win7 PC with office2007/10 to use icloud.

This is the first time I have ever replied to a question on here but I actually know this because I just figured it out for myself.
On the apple tv go to settings>computers
Then turn off home sharing.
Now go back to the main menu and open computers.
When you do it will give the option to use the previous home sharing settings or to use a new apple id.

Unfortunately it is not possible to change your primary mac.com or me.com email address for iCloud (See also Apple's FAQ: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs cannot be renamed), but you could stop using this account and create a new one.
Another option would be to create up to three email alises for your current primary email address.
Try this to create a new alias for your me.com address:
Open the web interface of iCloud "www.icloud.com" with Safari
Log in
Open "Mail"
Open "Preferences" (by clicking on the little button in the upper right corner)
Go to "Accounts"
Click on "Add an alias" (it would be another me.com address, you can not create new mac.com addresses since MobileMe was launched)
Finished
By the way: If you want to set up iCloud on your Mac you need Lion or Mountain Lion.

If the old ID ("email address") is your ID, and if your new ID was created by editing the details of this old ID (rather than being an entirely new ID), go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I don't really understand iCloud, but I have an Apple ID since both my kids are underage (8 and 11). They share my Apple ID, but have different Ipods. Can/Should I have separate iCloud emails for them? To recap, I have 1 Apple account, but have 2 kids, a boy and a girl. How do I move an iCloud email address to a different Apple ID

I have been previously using an iCloud email address with an Apple ID which is my parents. I now have a new device (new iPad for Christmas ) and am using my own Apple ID. I want to transfer the email address I previously had to my new ID so I own it, and can disable it on the other ID. It doesn't look like this is anywhere on the Apple support site and a web search hasn't led to anything.
I wonder if it would be possible to delete the email address from the previous account, and then register the name on my new one - i.e. just release and then reclaim it rather than transfer it.
I have been using the address for some services already so it would be really great if i could keep it exactly the same and not loose associations.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful for the advice.
