How can I create a wireless network in my office for my itouch?

I am in an office Windows environment with a G3 Mac that is connected to the internet via the Ethernet port. I can get to the internet with my Mac through a Proxy server. I have tried to setup up Airport to get through the firewall without any success. Is it possible to create a wireless network for my itouch if I install an Airport card in the Mac, start Internet Sharing and install Airport Express? I have no experience with the Internet Sharing options in OSX. I am assuming that my Mac with an Airport card would pass the internet connection to Airport Express. Airport Express would then create a wireless network for my itouch to connect to the internet. Any advice is appreciated as I would really like to get to the internet with my itouch.

You don't need the AirPort Express to do this.
You can set your Mac to share it's wired connection over the wireless port and the iTouch can connect directly to the Mac.
You could also do it with the AirPort Express, but you don't need to - it's overkill for what you've described.

I want to create a conection between my two offices so that they can work better towether.
I downloaded the OSX Server v2.2 but I haven't been able to create the connection. I have read the help information in the app, but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
    here is what I did:
I created a VPN Connection in Network preferences, then i oppened the server.app and activate the VPN service.
I fill all the fields, then in the other office i created the VPN Connecion in network preferences and filled out with the information of the other network, but it wasnt able to canect. I might not have all that is needed, here is what I have:
IMac mid 2010 with OS X server v2.2, this one will be the server host.
mac mini new, this one will be the client.
broadband Internet conection in both of my offices.
I would really apreciate if someone could point me to the right direction.
Is there a manual that explains how to do thisconnection?

On the gateway to the remote network, for L2TP over IPSec you need to forward UDP ports 500, 1701, and 4500 to the endpoint.
You also need either a static external IP address or a domain name for the gateway. Internally, the enpoint needs a static address.

  • Can't create a wireless network without a wireless card on my Mac

    Help!
O.k. I tried searching the forums for an answer but the odd nature of my problem, and the immense database of topics made it very difficult to find a similar post.
    The general issue/idea:
Run a wireless network using Airport Extreme - Connect desktop mac via ethernet and Roku player via wi-fi. Can't get the desktop mac to connect via ethernet when I restart the network/Airport Extreme.
My Father in law has my old computer; It's a PowerMac G5 (Dual 1.8GHz CPUs) running OS 10.5.8), connected to internet via cable (TimeWarner) modem. It does NOT have an Airport or Airport Extreme card installed. The computer works fine, and I don't believe that I 'need' an Airport Card in order to use the Airport Extreme (it's a brand new/refurbished model) in the manner described below.
I would like to use the Airport Extreme to generate/run a wireless network (Do I need an Airport Card in order to generate/run a wireless network? Doesn't the AE actually do that?), connect the desktop Mac to the network via Ethernet (I shouldn't need an Airport Card to do that, should I?) and connect a 'Roku Player (802.11g capable) to the network via wi-fi.
As far as I know, this should be possible.
    Basic steps/as I understand them:
    A. Connect ethernet from cable modem to AE.
    B. Connect ethernet from AE to desktop Mac.
    C. Create the wireless network using desktop Mac and Airport Utility.
    D. Restart AE to start the wireless network running.
    E. Connect Roku to wireless network over wi-fi.
I have no problems with A & B. Once the AE is connected to the desktop Mac, I'm able to get internet via ethernet as it passes through the AE. I can then create a wireless network (step C.) using the Airport Utility (and setup assistant). The problem starts after I've configured the wireless network.
Once I've configured the wireless network, the Airport Utility software prompts me to restart the AE in order to start the wireless network.
As soon as I restart the AE, my desktop Mac tries to connect to the 'wireless' network, even though it's already connected via ethernet. I don't have a wireless card in the Mac, and I don't want to connect the desktop using wi-fi/wireless. It's connected via ethernet, works fine during configuration, and I don't ever anticipate a desire to connect the desktop via wi-fi.
No matter what I do, I can't get the desktop to connect via ethernet. The only network connection option I'm offered is 'Rescan'. O.k. the desktop can't find the wireless network (because it doesn't have a wireless card), and I'm unable to continue with the Airport Utility. I can't make any further changes to the network (the options to manually change the network configuration are not available as the desktop Mac cannot currently talk to the AE - It's still trying to connect wirelessly), and the desktop has no internet connection as it's trying to connect wirelessly.
    *How can I...*
*Setup/run a wireless network, while keeping the desktop Mac connected via ethernet?*
I'm perfectly willing to factory reset the AE and start over.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thwarted by the network.

That is correct, you could connect the PowerMac G5, via Ethernet, to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) or any other wired router for Internet access. You do NOT need an AirPort Card for wired access ... ONLY if you want the G5 to connect to a wireless network.
I would like to use the Airport Extreme to generate/run a wireless network (Do I need an Airport Card in order to generate/run a wireless network? Doesn't the AE actually do that?)
That is correct, the AEBS is a wireless router that can provide a wireless network. The AirPort Card, on the other hand is a wireless adapter used to allow a Mac to connect to a wireless network, created by any wireless router ... not just those provided by Apple.
Yes, these are all good assumptions.
As soon as I restart the AE, my desktop Mac tries to connect to the 'wireless' network, even though it's already connected via ethernet. I don't have a wireless card in the Mac, and I don't want to connect the desktop using wi-fi/wireless.
Do you actually have an AirPort Card installed in the G5 now? If so, then it might be possible that the "firing order" for network connectivity has AirPort at the top of the list under System Preferences > Network. Just change the order to have Ethernet at the top and disable AirPort to ensure that the G5 connects by Ethernet only.

How can I delete a wireless network from my MacBoork Air.
I had set up a WEP Network but I need to set up a WPA (personal) network now and i cant seem to change the WEP network to a WPA2 network.
Thank you for any help you can provide me.
    LShaps

The MacBook Air will autodetect WEP and WPA security changes and should allow you to reconnect again. If the password stored in the Mac is wrong, it will ask you to enter it again.
With that said, to forget a network do the following:
    - Go to the Apple Menu and select System Preferences
    - Click on the Network icon
    - Highlight the Airport / WiFi entry (sepending on 10.6 vs 10.7)
    - Click the Advanced button at the bottom
    - Make sue the Airport / WiFi tab is selected
    - Click on the network name you want to forget
    - Press the minus button at the bottom of the list.
You may also want to consider restarting if you are having this issue.

    Hi,
usually the foreign key is only set if the VO you select is dependent from a master. If e.g. you have DepartmentsVO1 that has an EmployeeVO3 as its nested VO, then creating a new instance of employees automatically add the foreign key. If you add EmployeesVO1, which is not dependent to DepartmensVO1, then the foreign key is not set. So if this is the case in THURA (keep in mind that this is not an Oracle demo but a sample used in a book about ADF) then all you need is to take the independent VO when building the new employee form.

  • HT4259 How can I extend a wireless network from a 2Wire modem by usingan Airport Express? Years ago I could do this just by plugging in the (old) Airport Express. TIA Travelmonger

How can I extend a wirelss network from a 2Wire modem using an Airport Express? Some years ago using the old Express I was able to do so simply by plugging on the Express witha minimum of tweaking. Still the same?
    TIA
    Travelmonger

    Still the same?
    Unfortunately, no.
Apple's newer "Extend a wireless network" feature was designed to only work with other Apple products, so it would be extremely unlikely that it would work with a 2-Wire device if you plan to extend using wireless only.
If you plan to connect the AirPort Express to the 2-Wire device using a wired Ethernet connection, the Express can be configured to provide more wireless coverage that way.

  • How can I create a Text-Input Field in BexAnalyzer for a Planning Function

    Hello,
i want to create a pre calculation(contribution accounting) for Materials in BI-Integrated Planning. These Materials aren't in the master data. So I create a new Info Object for pre calculated materials with only a material-number as key and a text-description.
Now I want to write a Exit-Function, which creates new materials in these Info Object. The user should start this function in a planning application in BexAnalyzer. There the user should have the possibility to enter a text-description for the new material. How can I create such a Text-Field in BexAnalyzer and how can I read this text filed in a planning function (exit).
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Jürgen,
you can create a parameter for this in the exit function and a variable for the parameter. In BEx Analyzer then create a button for the planning function; in the button parameterization use VAR_NAME = , i.e. use an Excel formula here to get the value from an Excel input field.
The command range should be some 'hidden area' in your Excel sheet.
But may be you don't need this. Use a characteristic without master data. Then ensure that that the query uses the option 'key' as display. In new lines you can then enter the key, the system creates a SID on the fly (but the text table will not be updated). In this scenario you may take text also from the key. May be you can update the text table (online or in batch) by simply using function modules from function group RSNDI_MD (not released by SAP).
But observere that the system in BI Planning reads only the active version, i.e. if you change something on the fly the changes may not be visible.

  • How can I create a guest network on an airport extreme that connects wirelessly with a Timecapsule

I have a Timecapsule in one place of our house, that is connected to Internet.  I need to extend the range of my network:  1.  my private network needs to get to a remote location to make connection with speakers (Itunes).  for this I need to first extend the range of my private network, because the speakers are too far away from the TC.  2.  I need to set up a guest network, but at quite some distance from my TC, in an other part of the house, too far away from the TC (so a guest network on the TC won't do).
For this, upon advice from an apple store, I bought an airport extreme, which I have placed on a location where it can connect to the TC, to extend the private network.  On the location of the speakers, I have an aiport express (connecting to the extreme), to play music from Itunes.  The setup at this moment is:  TC makes connection to internet, and broadcasts a private network.  Extreme connects to this private network, and broadcasts it further to the Airport express, that captures it and plays the music.  I would now like to create a guest network on the Airport Extreme, while this Extreme keeps on connecting to the private network of the TC and keeps on broadcasting it to the Express.  Is this possible?  How can I do this?  Thanks for the help !

I would now like to create a guest network on the Airport Extreme, while this Extreme keeps on connecting to the private network of the TC and keeps on broadcasting it to the Express.  Is this possible?
Unfortunately, the "main" router...your TC in this case....is the only device that can create a Guest Network, assuming that the TC is connected to a simple modem.
Unfortunately again, the Guest Network cannot be extended.  Your only real option here is to create a Guest Network on the TC and hope that it will have sufficient coverage for your needs.

  • How can I create a wireless conection?

My Sattellite pro A10 is supposed to come wireless enabled.
Up till now I haven't used it, but am trying to connect to wireless internet.
Windows help and user manuals point me to network conections and to click on wireless connections and search for available connections, but there is and has never been a wireless connection icon in my network connections (running windows XP service pack 2 btw)
Can anyone suggest why and how I can create a wireless conection. The enabling switch on the front is on.

    Hello
This unit is not known to me but I have found information that WLAN is optional. Please check if there is WLAN card. You can check it in device manager under Network adapters.
If there is no WLAN card you must buy one.

  • How can I expand my wireless network with a Time Capsule and Airport Express?

My entire house is wired for ethernet access (2 floors).  I have a Time Capsule on the 2nd floor that reaches the entire house except for one room.
In this one room I have an ethernet port plugged into an Airport Express.
The problem I encounter is that I have two separate wifi networks with two separate names.  I realize I can extend the wireless network on the 2nd floor to the 1st floor but I can only do this wirelessly to my knowledge, and the entire problem is that the signal doesn't reach the front room.  Also, there is really no place in-between that the AE can be placed to extend the reach.  The building is concrete and steel, I think that has a lot to do with the problem.
My question is: Can I have two wireless routers (connected to the same home network via ethernet) broadcast the same wifi network?  I also have a SONOS system that further complicates things, I'm afraid.  Would it help if I drew some sort of diagram?
    Thanks!

Your network is not working as you describe.. or I have misunderstood the layout..
What is the broadband type? Modem is where? What is the main router?
From your screen shots the main router is the airport express that covers one room which seems wrong.
Why isn't the TC the main router? or both bridged.. if you go back and look at the apple document.. one or both apple routers are in bridge mode..
You are having issues with setup .. half of which is caused by v6 airport utility.
What OS are you running? Please install 5.6 utility.. do it.. do it now!!
    Easy for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
    Messy but possible for ML.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Can I create 2 Wireless Networks off of a FIOS Router?

    Hi,
I expect to be getting Verizon FIOS within the next month. I will be splitting it with my brother as we live in a two family house, me one one side and him and his family on the other. We will have Internet, TV and Phone. We are looking to split the Internet and TV throughout the house to his side and my side. We already have Verizon as our phone carrier so we will be keeping our phonenumbers. Splitting the TV shouldn't be hard as we just need to connect my current cable line and his current cable line to the Splitter Verizon will be providing us.
The question I have is in regards to the Internet. Since we will be having TV I'm sure I need a coax connection from the ONT to the FIOS Router. What we would like to do is one of the following scenarios if possible, starting with what we really want first.  Note that all scenarios will include us disabling wireless on the FIS Router as we want out routers to provide the wireless.
    1. We would like to connect 2 wireless routers to the FIOS Router to create 2 different wired/wireless networks based on the one FIOS Internet connection. Each connection will have its own SSID broadcast name (one for my side of the home and one for his side of the home). Is this as simple as connecting both routers' WAN ports via Cat-6 cable to seperate LAN ports on the FIOS Router? I would then disable wireless on the FIOS Router. I read somewhere that in order to do this, FIOS must offer 2 dynamic IP addresses. I was told this can be done with Time Warner Cable since it allows for 2 Dynamic IP Addresses. I would just have to connect a switch to the cable modem first. So, does FIOS offer 1 or 2 dynamic IP addresses? Regardless if FIOS offers 1 or 2 dynamic IP addresses, can I do what I want to do? If so, how? How would I set up the two routers? I imagine I would have to change the LAN IP addresses of the routers to something like 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.2.1 (since the FIOS Router is 192.168.1.1).  Anything else need to be done? Do I disable DHCP in the FIOS Router? Any help with this set up would be greatly appreciated.
    2. If the above scenario cannot be achieved I was thinking of connecting my 1st wireless router to the FIOS Router via the WAN port on my 1st wirelsss router to a LAN port on the FIOS Router. Then I would connect my 2nd wireless router's WAN port to a LAN port  on the 1st wireless router.  I would then disable wireless on the FIOS Router.  Do I disable DHCP in the FIOS Router?  The settings would be below:
    1st router:
-WAN/Uplink/Internet port plugged into FIOS Router
    -LAN port/wireless as follows
    Internal IP: 192.168.0.1
    subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    DHCP pool: 192.168.0.50 to .254
    2nd router:
-Wan uplink port into LAN port of 1st router
    -LAN port/wireless as follows
    Interla IP: 192.168.2.1
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    DHCP pool: 192.168.1.50 to .254
This way  the subnets are different and I have 2 different networks.  I can set up 2 different SSIDs.  I believe this set up will result in double-NAT however.  Would this be an issue?
    3. Lastly, if none of the above scenarios can be achieved, I was thinking of just using 1 SSID for the whole house.  I would connect my 1st wireless router's WAN port to a LAN port on the FIOS Router.  I would then connect a LAN port from the 2nd wireless router to a LAN port on the 1st wireless router.  Then I would disable DHCP on the 2nd wireless router so that is acts as a wireless access point.  I would change the LAN IP address of my 1st router to 192.168.1.2 and the 2nd router to 192.168.1.3 (since the FIOS Router is 192.168.1.1).  I would set up wireless and security the same on both routers.    I would then disable wireless on the FIOS Router.  Do I disable DHCP in the FIOS Router?  With this setup, will the 2nd router (wireless access point) only be a wireless access point or can I also connect devices to the router's LAN ports?
I know I may not have everything correct in the scenarios.  Will any of these scenarios work?  If not, what can I do to achieve my goal?  If so, then what must I change in a scenario to make it work properly?
I will need to do Port Forwarding for a Slingbox and 5 IP cameras, so how difficult would that be with the best scenarios?
Sorry for the long drawn out post, but I figured I give as much info as I could.
Thanks for the help in advance,
    Chris

Yup, this is the easiest way to create two separate networks. There is no need for more than one IP address from Verizon as long each router runs in NAT mode.  NAT mode will also keep each network completely separate - no sharing of resources will occur between them.  Double NAT is not a problem in most cases.

  • How can I extend a wireless network with my AirPort Extreme Base Station?

Today I purchased a brand new, dual-band base station to replace my Belkin N router, as I have had a handful of firewall, coverage, and other networking problems in my house lately. First off, I really like this router and it was very easy to setup. My MacBook Pro could use both bands and established a 300 Mbit/s link very quickly. After tweaking various settings to my liking, I was also able to maximize the connections on many of my non-Apple machines and devices. I noticed that the range of its network was better than my Belkin's, but unfortunately, it failed to completely saturate the area sufficiently. Since the Belkin still works well enough, I was hoping I could bridge them together one way or the other.
The Belkin router does not support any bridge mode that I know of, but the AirPort Extreme should be able to join a wireless network and then extend that over WiFi and Ethernet, correct? I would like to place them at opposite ends of my home so I can get strong WiFi signals everywhere inside. However, when I try to get the base station to connect to my preexisting WiFi connection, it tells me that I can't extend the network and fails to join.
So is this possible? And if it is, how would I go about setting it up? I know it would probably be easier if I had a simple range booster such as an AirPort Express, but I didn't buy one while I was at Fry's since I hoped I could make use of the older Belkin. This is its product page, if needed. Thanks for any suggestions.

Sorry, but no. The AirPort Extreme Base Station cannot "join" a network like the AirPort Express or Time Capsule, but you wouldn't want to do this anyway because in this configuration these devices will only perform as wireless clients ... not routers.
Instead, the AirPort Extreme can either be extended or can extend another 802.11g or 802.11n AirPort ... or a very very few non-AirPort devices.
One option for your Belkin would be to connect it to the AirPort Extreme by Ethernet but this may not meet your requirements or be a desirable situation. Otherwise, you would need to get another AirPort to extend your current one.
