How can I delete a contact and an empty group from iPad 2?

I downloaded the iPad 2 User's Guide, but its instructions for deleting a contact do not work. I cannot scroll down and find a Delete button to click. Also, there is an untitled group on my iPad 2 (which is not on the iMac to which I sync the iPad 2). How can I deleted this annoying untitled group? The user's guide has nothing about groups in its index or under Contacts.

Oh dear. I Reset the iPad, and it made me set it up again, like I did when I first got it. When I got to the choice of "Set Up as New iPad" or "Restore from iTunes Backup," I chose "Restore from iTunes Backup." Then I tried to sync it with iTunes. iTunes gave me no error message, but the iPad is stuck on the screen that says, "Connect to iTunes," even though it IS connected to iTunes. Is this because I cannot connect to a wifi zone? I'm hardly ever in a wifi zone. I don't have access to one right now. Does this mean I can't use my iPad until I find a free wifi zone to connect to?

You can't. You can delete your account from existing on your device. Delete facebook or twitter account info from your device...and it won't delete your account as a whole. But the shortcut is hard wired and will always be there.

go to 'Edit' in the menu bar. Then choose 'Preferences'.
you'll see a pop-up and there's a tab called 'Devices' there. If you click that, you will be able to check a box that says 'prevent automatic syncing for iPods, iPads and iPhones' or something like that.

NB: if you don't even see the menu bar that has options like 'File, Edit, View, etc', first click the black/white square button on the top left of your screen, and then click 'show menu bar'. It should pop right up.

The fact that those internal contacts lists aren't editable is an irritation to many. I've submitted feedback to Apple several times on this, asking that in a future OS release they should either
Provide a way to directly access that list of 'Recent Addressees' and Delete unwanted ones, or
If not that, then at least mode it so that addressses selected from that list bubble up to the top, therefore over time moving the unused ones down out of sight.
Other have added their own ideas, and the more they hear on this topic the more likely a future fix will become. If you feel that you would like the change, then put together your best case for it and make your wishes known directly to apple via their established Feedback links:

Got the answer from some other posts - thanks. But now that I have resynced, and if I am backing up to my Mac not the icloud how am I keeping the contacts in icloud current with my Mac and iPhone and Ipad?
