How can I delete an email account off of my MacBook?

I have an email account that I no longer use, I would like to delete it off of my MacBook (the entire email account, not just the mailbox). I am so confused as to how to do this!

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Last time I did that, in mail preferences under accounts, highlight the account and push the minus symbol down below. That should delete both the account and any mail associated with that account.

In the Settings there is a Restrictions portion that was toggled on. I entered my passcode and under "Allow Changes" I toggled the Accounts tab to "On". Then went bact to the Mail, Contacts, Calendars tab and was allowed to delete the account.

If your iPhone has been set up with another person's iCloud account, then you will need that person's Apple ID and password, or will need them to remove the iPhone from their iCloud account. There is no other way past the Activation Lock.

@Lysin: If you bought it second hand and it has content on it, the first thing I would do is to clean everything up by doing a soft reset and formatting the memory card. This will delete everything that he has installed. It will also delete whatever you've installed after getting the phone.
If there's something you want to keep, make a back up first.
Doing a soft reset and a format of the memory card should make your device as brand new.
If the phone is originally branded and there was installed applications on it from the provider etc, this will also much likely be deleted. But as it is second hand, I guess that won't be a big deal if it is installed any bloatware on it.

I setup icloud in my iphone with an email account [email protected] but this one is not the same that my original me.com email which is linked to my mac, when I transfer my mobilme account to Icloud my original me.com email is the one linked with my company email and is in my macboodair but is not sincronizing with my iphone because the me.com email on the iphone is different to my original me.com email.

I want to sell my 5230 as i have found i really dislike touchscreen phones. I have managed to delete everything from it and have restored factory settings but my email is still showing in a bar across the home screen. I have tried for hours to cancel it but just cant figure out how. Any help would be much appriciated.

No-one seems to have come up with a "proper" answer here, so after ages of struggling I managed to find the very confusing, long winded way of simply deleting an e-mail account:
Tap Messaging, tap the e-mail account once to select it (don't go into it, select only), tap Options, Settings, Email, Mailboxes, tap on the account you want to delete, Options, Delete.
Surely this could be an Options "option" from the main messaging screen??

Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iPad and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out and choose Delete from My iPad when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). My emails do not go - they exit outbox and go to recovered. How can I delete my Icloud account and just use gmail.

You need to go to Manage your Apple ID, https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/, and sign in with your current Apple ID and password and do the following:
1.     Edit your current Apple ID and change it back to the ID which is displaying for your iCloud account. You do not need to verify it - this is only a temporary change
2.     Go into Settings>iCloud on your device and delete the iCloud account. Use your current password when your are prompted for a password
3.     Once the old iCloud account is deleted, go back into Manage your Apple ID and change your ID back to the current one
4.     Go back to Settings>iCloud and sign on with your current ID and password
That should take care of your issue!

If his Gmail account is under the Gmail app and press the app until it wiggles then press the extra deleted. If this account is under the Apple email and then you can go to Settings, mail contacts calendars and then select the account and remove it.
