How can I delete duplicate songs in Itunes ?

How can i delete duplicate songs in Itunes ?

I have the same problem, where my music library shows duplicates of just about everything I put in iTunes now. It began about a month ago. As far as looking at Date Added, well they are duplicates all put on at the same time. It isn't a matter of the title showing up later, or my having accidentally added the same song twice (say, from different sources or compilations). This is a problem with Apple I think because it just began a month ago and I changed no settings, nor did I do anything else. It just began to happen out of the blue. Anyone know about this?

    Hi jpere041,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You can delete individual songs, artists, albums, playlists, compilations and composers from your iPhone. To delete an item, swipe across it, then tap Delete.
This information is on page 61 of the iPhone User Guide
    manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
Delete a song from iPhone: In Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete.
The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.
    Regards,
    Jeremy

How can you delete duplicate songs in total, instead of the tedious task of one at a time. I have hundreds of duplicates.

Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?
    Also maybe
    - Restore from backup. See:

    I know this will work
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

How can I view duplicate songs in iTunes 11?

If needed press ctrl-b to reveal the menu bar. Use Shift-View > Show Exact Duplicates to reveal the duplicates. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.

  • How can I delete duplicats songs in my libary

How can I delete duplicates in my libary

i found probably the easiest way to do this with out even displaying the duplicates and deleting them one by one
well most of them got deleted i went from over 1900 duplicates to 83 but i think that might of been because i might have duplicates in my music folder
    first of all
delete all of your songs in your libary but one
then open your folder with all your music files
from there select all of your songs and drag them into your itunes libary
now all you duplications will be gone
if the song you kept in your libary got duplicated just delete that one it didnt for me though

  • How can i delete unwanted songs from iTunes match?

With a limit on how many songs that can be uploded to iTunes match, how can i remove songs that i didn't want uploaded to the Cloud?

Right click on the song on the computer your music is on and delete the song and make sure you check the box that says delete from iCloud.
If you want to delete the song from iCloud you also have to delete the song from the library that you are syncing from.

    Hello, singinheart.
Thank you for the question.  Since you have already identified the duplicate media you just have a couple more steps to go.  This article outlines the remainder of the steps in order to mass delete the duplicates.

  • How to safely delete duplicate songs in itunes?

For some reason all of the songs in my library have multiplied themselves. So I have three of each and every song - one original and two copies. I don't know how this happened, but I need to find a way to safely remove the copies without hurting the originals. Does anyone know how to do this? I started to manually delete, but quickly realized that I couldn't identify the original or copies and lost some music...not to mention how labor-intensive this would be! Please help

  • How to delete duplicate songs on itunes

how do you delte duplicate songs on itunes?

no need to use any script, no need to pay "duplicate cleaner apps".. duplicates appears on your iTunes folder or where you pointed ... Open your music folder where you located them, you can see duplicated items... for example "Hells Bells.mp3" and duplicated one "Hells Bells 1.mp3" and the other duplicated one "Hells Bells 2.mp3"...
    just cmd+space and search 1.mp3...
Choose "Show all in finder" ...
Choose all of duplicated mp3 items...
    Delete them.
If there is more than one or two duplicate, go ahead.. search for 2.mp3 or 3.mp3... choose duplicated items.. delete them..
    Tadaaa...

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If you have failed to bakup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

  • How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?

How can I delete a song from iCloud / iTunes Match, but keep it on my Mac?
I subscribed to iTunes Match a few weeks ago and my entire library was uploaded.  I do not want all of my library in the Cloud, especially given that there is a space/song limitation.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Apologies Brandon, we have moved on somewhat from your original question.
What I have done is effectively used Michael's idea. I'll try to explain a little further.
You can run iTunes match on up to 5 computers, and you can edit the iCloud library on any of them. Michael's idea works on the basis that, whilst you can edit the iTunes library, you can't remove songs from other computers.
I have basically the same setup as you, but I also have a MacBook Air, which is running iTunes Match but without any music downloaded so it all streams.
I added the songs on my main library, which then added them to the cloud. When they appeared on my MacBook I deleted them straight away. As there was no local copy I was asked if I wanted to delete them from the cloud, and I said yes. When I went back to my main computer I found that, as expected, they were still there, but the iCloud status is "removed". They are therefore on my library but not in iCloud.
Since then I have run match updates a couple of times and there is no sign as yet that it will try to add them back to the cloud. It's too early to say that this is a definate answer to your problem, but it looks very hopeful.
Our other discussions have moved onto the 25,000 son limit, which I note from your comment you may also be interested in. Watch this space.
If you don't have access to a second computer to run the other library on then look back at Michael's post where he explains how to set it up on your main computer.
    Hope that clarifies a bit.
