How can I delete files?

This sounds simple, but I've been having troubles with RealPlayer, so I thought I'd try reinstalling it. This means that I have to delete all RealPlayer files currently in my computer before reinstalling it. The problem is that I can't remove some of them. Some of them just reduplicate themselves when I drag them into the TRASH, and I can't delete any of them by clicking on the DELETE button. What am I missing? Incidentally, I haven't tried to contact RealPlayer because everytime in the past that I tried to get help from them, I ended up sending them a message saying that their "help" service is completely worthless. They're really bad. Incidentally, I started this because I couldn't listen to any of the RealPlayer files that I have. The RealPlayer icon would indicate that the song was playing, but there wasn't any sound. Yes, I checked my sound by playing songs from my iTunes library. No problem there.

My Realplayer version 10.1.0 works fine. Rather than
attempt to delete your version, have you tried
dowloading the latest version and installing it? It
will simply overwrite the previous one.
If you want to delete applications and all their
associated files, try downloading the free
AppCleaner. Works a treat!
I already had version 10.1 installed. Since I posted my inquiry, I finally managed to delete every remnant of RealPlayer--or so I thought. I then reinstalled version 10.1, but it still doesn't work. Part of the procedure of installing RealPlayer is to double-click on the file you have just dragged into the Applications folder. The problem is that when I did that, a RealPlayer song icon appeared, which didn't play. It said that it was playing, but it wasn't. I'd like to delete the file for that song icon, but it only appears when I double-click on the RealPlayer icon in my Applications folder. Strange to say, I can't find it . I've tried Spotlight and I've tried searching every part of the computer, but it's hidden somewhere and only appears when I double-click on the RealPlayer icon in my Applications folder. Incidentally, RealPlayer is prone to such problems.
Oh, thanks for the tip about AppCleaner. I'll download it now, and I'll use it to delete that pesky RealPlayer song--as soon as I can find it.

  • I can't login, keep geting "Your  Startup Disk is Full" and asking me to delete file. if I cant login how can I delete files? Please help

I Keep getting "your startup disk is full" ..... "You need to make more space available on your startup disk by deleting file..."  If I can't have an acess, how can I delete files. Please help..

That means the hard drive of your computer is full, and you don't have enough free space on your computer, to do what you are trying to do.
You need to clear up space on your computer.
If you hard drive is full, check the following places to ensure they are not holding unwanted data.
    - your trash can in the dock
    - if you use iPhoto, your trash in iPhoto - launch iPhoto, and select trash in the left hand column.  iPhoto has it's own trash, and is often overlooked
    - your download folder - finder / home user / downloads - every time you download something, it stores it here. This is often overlooked as well
    - do you have more than one user on the computer?  If you do, ensure they are needed.  If not, delete them, and the contents of their home folders
If you hard drive is very full, you may want to consider the following:
    - putting in a newer larger hard drive - (call you local apple store for prices on this)
    - deleting data off your computer
    - moving data to an external drive - (iPhoto Libraries, iTunes Libraries or iMovie events, as they are the biggest space hogs)

  • How can I delete files in Diagnostics and Usage on my IPad?

My IPad has very little space left.  I have deleted everything I can but notice there are files in Diagnostics and Usage.  How can I delete those files to free up space?

By the way, those files in diagnostics and usage are probably not your problem, but the restore is the right step to take to solve your real problem.
The problem is that you likely have corrupt files on your iPad caused likely by suspicious apps.  Restoring your iPad from a backup may help.  If not, restore as new, then sync your items back to your iPad very carefully and consider removing suspicious apps.
Also check Settings > General > Usage to see if your expectations are met.

  • How can I delete files from My Mac Book Pro safely to create more space?

    Hi,
I need to delete files from my Mac Book Pro and I am not sure how to do it safely without affecting my computers drivers or operations.
In my Finder - All Files Section there are certain files in the Preview, marked as "PNG Image", Window Image, GIF image, XLM. when I look at them they seem scripted or sections of an image. How do I know which files are safe to remove
I seem to find a lot of duplicated files - is there a way of stopping this from happening?
Thanks from a little frustrated Mac Book user.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Transfer them to an external disk formatted in "MS-DOS (FAT)" with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
If you have the pictures in iPhoto, choose them with the Command key, go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export, and copy them to the external disk. Then, connect your external disk to the PC and move them.
If you have the pictures in Finder, steps are the same, but in this case, you will have to drag the pictures you chose to the external disk that you can find in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices"

  • How can i delete files on an external hard drive

I am trying to transfer all my photos from iPhoto onto an external hard drive.  The external hard drive appears to be full.  How do I delete the files on the external hard drive so I can add the photos.

If you have a few, you can easily use the drag 'n drop method: just have the external attached, open it in the Finder, and drag files to your internal's trash can. Empty the trash before disconnecting the external (or the files will not be deleted). Make sure you have the files backed up somewhere before ditching them on the external drive (unless you absolutely do not ever need them again).

  • How can I Delete files from LTR5 to move to Trash On OS 10.8.4?

    my set up is
mac 0s 10.8.4 using mac book pro 2.7 GHZ with 16GB having Lacie usb 3 thunderbolt external drive storing photos and LTR 5 catalogue to do my LTR processing of 24 mg files from D600 SLR
I have the LTR5 installed and am using it only to find out cannot move file(s) to Trashcan( MAC latest version) that doesn’t support the volume I have the photo files in. LTR5 only will permanently delete them via LTR5 only . Its an annoying step to rid the file – Is this a Bug? LTR 4 moves file(s) directly to Trash with no issues. The other LTR versions had no problem .
I don’t recall LTR5Beta having this issue when trying to move file to trash. I was beta tester .
LTR dialogue also says , file could not be moved to Trash folder as volume isnt supported . I have checked all preference panes to see if i can open up the trash to LTR5 discarded Files from my lacie drive where they are stored  . Often I'll move  files to trash then retrieve later from trash to import back into catalogue.
It was suggested trying new “test” catalogue .So. I created new catalogue which acted same way; failure to move files to trash.
As result , I have created a ” new” Trash folder within LTR5 to move discarded Files into temporary holding space; then, empty the folder contents within LTR5 as needed.
It’s awkward , inefficient . But, it is a temporary solution in holding files until  its decided to permanently delete files. This is a short term solution till Issue is corrected.
Does anyone else have this problem? Suggestions?

Thank you for sharing this thread #Post 31. Ill try permissions tweaking and see of that works .
This was a first for me being a beta tester for LTR5 . I do  wonder when I bought the  upgrade and Downloaded LTR5  that bug  appeared  beacuse of being a beta tester .
Trying to rule out all sorts of things here :
Wonder if  doing a  an uninstall  and doing a reinstall will help?  Would it be a realistic painless step?
Yesterday I worked on LTR editing files from Hard drive  many hours with bug active .
Then all of sudden it was working ( Th1s is 3rd time its happened). If I close LTR5 then reopen later bug  appears again. I cant yet isolate the cause for  files to move and be trashed normallly!  Earlier I have trashed prefs .  Also, creating test catalogues didnt work . Tried other older drives; that failed. Will try internal drive.
LTR 4 and earlier was bugfree so this is first time i have encountered a stubborn bug . Its as bad as mosquitoes buzzing.
Wonder if the reinstall is best guaranteed solution other than uncheck my permissions.?
I really appreciate the info from thread 31. Thank you .
      I'll get the bug booted.

  • How can I delete files from my ipad?

Hi I just downloaded an .exe file on my ipad and I don't know how to delete or where to view them. I did this as a test to see if safari can download files or not but now I can't find it to delete it. I'm sure its still somewhere in my Ipad because I checked before I download the file I have 5gb left after I only have 4.5gb left. Coming from and android user where you can just go to your /download folder and everything will be there but I can't seem to do that on IOS. Please help me out thanks

An exe file is a Windows program, so you can't view it and it does no good on an Apple product.  It may be stored in the "Other" portion of the device.  If you do a backup of the device to itunes or icloud, then restore, the "Other" area will be cleaned up.  Be sure to sync all photos to a computer first, as these may be lost in the process.
(To be honest, I'd be surprised that the exe file was retained on the device after download.  I'm even surprised you were able to download it.)

  • How can i delete files not in itunes easily?

i have a lot of music saved on my computer which i dont have in itunes. i dont listen to it and want to get rid of it to free up some space. is there any way of doing this without going through each individual folder?

    This may help you.
First, you probably now know that there is a difference between deleting the music file from iTunes and completely deleting it. You should have gotten a message from iTunes asking if you want to send the file to the recycle bin. Choosing yes will delete the file from iTunes AND the directory. It will reside in the recycle bin until you empty it. This is the best way to manage your files if you really want them permanently deleted.
Now here's my tested method: It will depend on how many directories and songs you have in the "Compilations" directory in the "iTunes Music" directory. If you have quite a bit, this may become complicated (although it might not matter, anyhow – if you are careful and deliberate).
If you can take a screenshot of what is in the Compilations Folder, it would help you later to manage it back to its original state.
If you select all your current Library song references (they're all good - right?) - either in total or in piece-part, right-click to "Get Info" and tick off the "Part of Compilation" box and set it to "Yes", iTunes "should" re-order those songs out of their respective directories and into the compilations directory - leaving any unwanted songs behind (or at least song files that are not referenced within iTunes). Confirm that these are files you no longer need.
You can then mass delete the full directories to remove the unwanted songs. After doing this, you would reverse the first procedure, turning the compilations selection back to "No". iTunes will re-re-order the songs back to individual Artist/Album directories, re-creating any needed folders as it progresses.
You should be able to test this out with just one Artist's songs. Pick an artist that you know has several to many "bad" songs in the sub-directory structure. Try a step-wise progression through the above process (looking at the results via Windows Explorer) and see what is happening. If it doesn't work right, you haven't changed that much of you data in the process. If it works, then select more and more groupings of songs and proceed en-mass.
Probably best to sort your main library by artist prior to doing any of this so you are sure to select all necessary songs.
If your songs are not organized that carefully, this may not work. Having iTunes organize your Library is essential to this process. Looking at my directory structure, and with the experiments I performed, it does work for me.
Have backups of your good song data somewhere prior to attempting this solo.
You should perform this process from the main Library, not a playlist.
Here is what I have in my Preferences (Advanced/General):
--- Keep iTunes Music folder organized (on)
--- Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library (off)
Make sure that the location of your Music folder (shown in the "Advanced" tab) is the same location that you are adjusting.

  • Start up disc is full, permenant blue screen! How can i delete files to create space?

please see above fpr my question

The issue I have is my Mac must be so full that it's not letting me do this. When I try and start in 'safe mode' it doesn't let me. All I get is a blue screen that I've left for over 30mins but does nothing apart from go into a screen saver.
I'm pretty sure I've backed up everything to an external hard drive, so I did have a thought about wipiing the computer competely and then putting everyhting back onto the Mac from the external hard drive. Just a thought but ideally I don't really want to do as I'm not sure how to do it.
Does anyone have any ideas of how I can delete documents or any ideas on what I can delete to free up some space so the Mac boots up properyl...?!?!
