How can I disable 4-finger swipe left/right?

How can I disable 4-finger swipe left/right?  I map these to far more useful keystrokes in BTT; my mappings still work but it also switches, rendering them effectively useless.  This was working for me in Lion until I did an update a couple of days ago.  Every other gesture is in trackpad config except these 2.

That actually was disabled in my settings for me so I didn't think so.  But I went and enabled/disabled it with no result.  I then switched it to 3 fingers from 4 fingers and back again and now it's gone.  Knowing what to search for I found this thread, it seems other have had the same problem; thanks for pointing me in the right direction:

  • How can I disable two finger pinch on iPad?

    Hi!
    I'm trying to create a lab station where students will interact with a Keynote or PowerPoint presentation. However, I am running into problems trying to disable or lock certain actions so the students can't leave the presentation or program.
    While in these programs, even if the students are locked into it, they still have the ability to exit the presentation or to minimize it. Since we the lab station won't have employee supervision, we won't be able to check on it frequently to make sure it is still set up correctly.
    Is there a certain way to disable the "two finger pinch" touch screen command, or maybe another app that will allow us to have students to interact with pictures and slides. The requirements for this is that the iPad has to be independent of other computers, as well as being off a network.
    We were pointed to Deep Freeze as a possible solution, but as far as we can tell, all that the program will do is create revertible snapshots of the hard drive, and not actually stop certain functions.
    We tried to disable Multitasking Gestures, as well as turning on Guided Access, but neither of those options have helped.
    Thank you for any support!

    You can use a CHANGE event handler function to set the enabled property of the nonselected checkboxes to false.
    cb1.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, handleCBs);
    cb2.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, handleCBs);
    cb3.addEventListener(Event.CHANGE, handleCBs);
    function handleCBs(evt:Event):void {
         // change the status of all
         for (var i:int = 1; i<4; i++){
              this["cb"+String(i)].enabled = !this["cb"+String(i)].enabled;
         // enabled the selected checkbox
         evt.currentTarget.enabled = true;
    That example will toggle the checkboxes from enabled to disabled and back again, so if one was to uncheck a checkbox, the rest would be enabled again.
    Have you considered using radio buttons instead? They will only allow one selection at a time.

  • How can I disable that ugly black menu to the left the screen?

    I use "google" as my homepage and I do not like clutter either on my desktop or on my homepage.
    How can I disable that black menu at the left of the home page?
    Dell technicians have tried, but cannot eliminate it. Usually one is able to "hide" menus.

    Google changed their homepage. They replaced the narrow black menu at the top of the screen and replaced it with the wider grey bar. When you click on the Google logo that black menu opens on the left side. Sorry I don't know how to close that menu, haven't seen that page myself, just read about that change yesterday.
    Try a Google group for help with that. not a Firefox support issue. <br />
    Another suggestion is to use the default Firefox homepage - '''about:home'''

  • How can I disable "Fingerprint Software" for programs only?

    Hi,
    somehow, the "Fingerprint Software" require from user to swipe a finger anytime he open programs that require from user to insert "user and password."
    How can I disable it permanently just for program and not for log-on?
    Thanks.

    I would have thought (hoped) this would do the job. In my case with the Truesuite Access manager software General Settings configured with the Replace Windows password logon with fingerprint logon checkbox unticked the fingerprint access logon appears whenever I go to a browser login that requires a user name and password to be specified. I have made the change to the General Settings and rebooted the computer and logged on by typing in my logon credentials. I have wiped out all the internet settings in the browser. Yet every time I visit this browser page to login the fingerprint access dialog pops up to infuriate me.
    Some postings on the internet suggest this fingerprint access is too much hassle to bother with and I am starting to believe it.

  • How can I disable Firefox from automatically opening on system startup on my Mac - unchecking the "open at login" does not work?

    We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.

    For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
    1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go.

  • How can I DISABLE the pop up 'Would you like to copy it to Library', preventing this message from bothering for each and every book, again and again, time after time? (Windows 7 64bit US).

    How can I DISABLE the pop up 'Would you like to copy it to Library', preventing this message from bothering for each and every book, again and again , time after time? (Windows 7 64bit US).
    I guess this may be a feature request. Adobe may think this is a good message for every new eBook.
    I sure would like to decide about that myself.
    Thanks in advance if this will be changed.

    Decided to setup the mail for exchange on my N8 so I could see my work emails. Worked like a charm but after a couple of hours decided I didn't like being that contactable so deleted the mailbox.
    Now to the problem, during setup I was forced to enable the phone lock and had to pick a 7 digit alphanumeric code. Fair enough I thought and went ahead. When I removed the mailbox however the lock remained in place with the default auto time of 30 minutes. When I checked in Phone management there is no option to disable this lock so I thought I could at least change the default time to something bigger but when you try, it remains at 30 mins. You also can't disable the auto time as it pops up an error message saying can't unlock phone.
    Does anyone know if I'm missing something obvious here or is this something which can't be disabled once it's switched on? I've done a soft reset back to factory settings with no luck and the only other thing I can think of is re installing the firmware which seems a bit extreme.
    Would like to hope there is some way to have control over this. Can someone help?
    Which firmware your N8 having now? You can check firmware by choosing Call, then type *#0000#.
    My N8 works fine on security setting and able to define Phone auto lock period, by choosing Menu>Settings>Phone>Phone management>Security settings>Phone and SIM card>Phone auto lock period>User defined>Lock after(minutes)
    You will prompt to enter Lock code each time u define auto lock priod or enable/disable auto lock.
    Hope this can help you.

  • How can I disable the Photos app from automatically running when I plug in my iPhone?

    How can I disable the Photos app from automatically running when I plug in my iPhone?
    I have no intention of ever using Photos, in fact, having to abandon Aperture takes me one step close to moving back to Windows, but I digress.
    I just want to NOT have to kill the Photos app every time I plug in my phone.
    Thanks.

    I am still seeing the option Image Capture, like shown in the screenshot that Rysz posted.   But it is another example of the hide-and-seek Apple likes to play with us.
    The option has to be set for each device individually. With the device connected to USB, you have to click the tiny disclosure triangle in the lower left corner of the sidebar to reveal the option.
    I was perfectly happy with the program I paid for (Aperture), and now to maintain the functionality I have to pay for another application (LightRoom) to get the functionality that I paid for in Aperture.
    Aperture 3.6 is working well with Yosemite. I will use it, as long as I have a Mac, that will run Yosemite or a compatible system.
    Have you looked at Capture One?  It looks much more similar to Aperture than Lightroom.

  • How can I disable mac pro OSX 'spaces' shortcut keys? (i.e. CTL, Right Arrow)

    How can I disable mac pro shortcut keys: CTL right arrow, CTL left arrow, CTL up arrow, CTL down arrow? Currently, they take me from one space to another. (OSX 10.6) Goal is to use these shortcuts for text editing.

    Hi, Simon.
    You can instruct iTunes and iPhoto to save their respective libraries to a different disk, e.g. your second hard drive. You can also move existing libraries for these apps to a drive other than your startup disk.
    See the links concerning moving these libraries cited in the "More ways to save space if you have a spare partition or second hard drive" section of my "Freeing Space on your Mac OS X startup disk" FAQ.
    Good luck!

  • How can I disable the camera's clicking sound?

    That click is irritating and pointless to me. I understand they don't want people surreptiously photographing women's beavers on subways in Tokyo and such, but that is easily overridden by simply by turning off all the iPhone's sounds completely each time with the little button on the top of the left side of the phone.
    My point is, I don't want to have to silence my phone each time, and then turn it back on again after taking some pictures, which I often forget to do. So how can I disable the silly camera sound without muting the entire iPhone each and every time I use the camera?

    Actually in other countries, even on silent it will not mute the camera as it is their law to have camera sound.
    As for here, that is only option, silent mode.

  • Single finger swipe left on magic mouse in browser no longer goes back a page

    Since upgrading to Mavericks, the single finger swipe left gesture to go back a page in a browser (tested in Safari and FireFox) no longer works. Anybody know how to bring it back?
    Thanks,

    Yes, I just noticed and fixed that too. Mavericks reset the gestures > more > browser swipe button. I checked the single finger swipe and it's working again.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
    To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
    #Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
    #Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
    #Click on '''Settings''' in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
    # Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/>[[Image:fpSettings1.PNG]] <br/>
    # Remove the check mark from '''Enable hardware acceleration'''.
    # Click '''Close''' to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
    # Restart Firefox.
    This [http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/help01.html Flash Player Help - Display Settings page] has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
    Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

    thank you for responding.
    this does not solve my problem, as i mentioned the problem is with the HTML5 player, i've been using flash player since forever and used to open up to 50 tabs without having any problems, with the new default html5 thingy i cannot open a couple of tabs without the browser dying slowly.. my original question was how can i disable the HTML5 player and make the flash player be the default player

  • How can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air?

    how can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air? i dont know my imessages to pop up on my laptop when it turns on. But i dont want to disable imessage totally on my macbook.

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    First of all, check that Messages is closed when you turn off your MacBook. This is so important because, by default, OS X will reopen all opened apps the next time you start your Mac.
    Apart from that, when you go to  > Shut Down, or  > Restart, in the window you see to restart or turn off your MacBook, unmark "Reopen windows when logging back in". This will avoid that your Mac opens all opened apps the next time you start the MacBook, so Messages won't start automatically at startup

  • The windows of the Windows bar are already a form of tabs, so I don't need them in Firefox. How can I disable them completely from Firefox 23?

    RE: TABS ARE WINDOWS!
    The Windows bar already functions as a tab bar. Those tabs are called "windows." So, I find Firefox tab windows superfluous. How can I disable them completely from Firefox 23? I don't need what is essentially TWO windows bars covering up the entire width of my widescreen monitor's image! I already have a Windows bar at the bottom of my screen and, if I really wanted to, I could change ITS position to the top of the screen, so that it would LOOK like the Firefox tab windows bar. Firefox TABS are, essentially, a superfluous SECOND WINDOWS BAR.
    Here are my reasons for why I'd rather use Mozilla's Firefox, than Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Google's Chrome. I love and admire Firefox for Mozilla's intent on good security, for Firefox's Personas add-on, and for Firefox's free use of the Ad-Block add-on which, as you know, has the distinct virtue of reducing screen clutter--the last of which is my motive for wanting to get rid of the SUPERFLUOUS Firefox tabs "windows" bar. I am dreadfully sick of companies forcing miscellaneous bars (mostly representing marketing campaigns trying to sell me something) into my browser (and down my throat) every time I download something. (In case you haven't guessed, I am deliberately referring to your Firefox tabs bar as a "Firefox tabs 'windows' bar," because TABS are WINDOWS!)

    Let me clarify even more. The Firefox add-on you mention does not remove "tabs" windows. It only HIDES the "tabs" bar when there is only one "tab" in that window. It DOES NOT end "tabs." It does not turn "tabs" off.
    I know this, because, even with the add-on you recommend, the "tabs" bar often re-appears when I open a link, which--for some unknown reason--Firefox defaults to opening in a second "tab" within the same window, rather than putting it in a new Windows bar window. This, of course, disregards what I want to happen.
    I want to use my Windows bar to control my windows. I do not want my Firefox browser controlling my windows--which it calls "tabs." Can you tell me how to shut off "tabs?"
