I have ADOBE xi 11 INSTALLED
I do not want Adobe to prefetch PDF file When I point to the file.
As a result of a problem in my PC prefetching many time results in an error
message.

Can you explain what prefetching means to you? And pointing? And maybe a screenshot of the error message?

Ahh, but that's the design function of any PDF viewer add-on to a browser.
To avoid -- Use the browser feature that saves a file to the local machine.
Then open the file with the appropriate application.
If your machine/device does not support this then you'd want to change to one that supports what you want eh.

I actually saw a solution to this earlier today. To disable PDF viewing in safari, first quit safari, then open terminal, and type in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
To re-enable PDF viewing in safari simply open the terminal, and change the "YES" in the command above to a "NO"

How can I keep Adobe Reader from closing 30 secs after I open it? Windows Vista

My Adobe Reader closes after 30 seconds or so of being opened. I've been making changes to some of my windows settings in an effort to reduce risk of viruses and malware, etc. I don't know why it affected the time Adobe is allowed to stay open and so don't know how to fix the problem. How can I fix this?

Three things to try:
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself? If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

From inside my application that run on an Automation PC, under Windows O.S, I want to call Adobe Reader using a shell command to open up an PDF Document containing some informations.
Shell command like these

Operator is using a touchscreen.

How can I stop Adobe Reader from opening after start up?

I just installed version 9. I remember a question that appeared during installation that was something like "do you want Adobe Reader to open after start up?" I said checked yes because I assumed this meant I wanted it in my StartUp menu. After everything loads and my desktop comes up, the Adobe Reader file opens up showing all the program's files and just sits there. I have to close it each time after start up.
I looked through Preferences, but can't find a way of stopping the program's file window from opening after start up. How can I stop this? Thanks for your help.

How do I run Adobe Reader to display pdf files in Windows 8?

I'm confused! Where is the executable for adobe pdf reader in windows 8? I want to launch it from powershell to display a pdf file. It used to be trivial in windows 7 but now the adobe pdf reader is an app and I cannot find the executable using the task
manager.
Can someone help me launch it from cmd.exe or powershell_ise to display a pdf file?
I just downloaded and installed the Adobe PDF reader and I cannot execute the reader c:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe. I get no error messages and no GUI display. What is going on?

Hi,
As far as I know, that Windows 8 has a reader by default, it seems like it is Microsoft Reader. It could used to read PDF file. And I have not ever use powershell to manage to use it.
The PDF reader is a Modern UI app; we cannot run Modern UI apps on the desktop. So I don't think powershell could manage it.

Perhaps the file is not a .pdf file after all.
Anyway, .pdf files are generated by Adobe Acrobat, not by Windows. Checking the FAQs at the Adobe site is probably the best way to solve your problem. I would also run this test: Create my own .pdf file, apply a password, then remove the password.

I am looking for a app that can copy a picture on a PDF to keynote or pages. I have tried iannotate and adobe reader but failed. I read the introductions of a lot of other PDF apps, such as goodreader and PDF expert, but I don't think they are equipped with this function. Is there any apps having this kind of function? It depends on what you need. If you are trying to extract a high-resolution image to be printed, you will need Adobe Acrobat (not Reader, but real, paid-for Acrobat) or Adobe Illustrator. Other apps, I'm sure, can do this as well, but those are two.
If you are only going to display the image on-screen, then lower-resolution is okay. Just open the PDF, zoom in on the image, and push command+shift+4 to take a screenshot. Draw a rectangle around the image and a new copy should show up on your desktop.

Dev question: how to prevent Adobe Reader from copying pdfs to "Download/Adobe Reader"?

I am making an app that downloads pdf files from a server and the users can decide to store them in the phone. Those files are kept in the app's private storage.
The pdf files can be opened from inside the app. The problem is that every time a pdf is opened, adobe reader copies it in "Download/Adobe Reader" (the path may be different depending on the device and the android version). Those pdf files should not be available from outside my app. How can I prevent adobe reader from creating copies in that folder? Do I really have to make my app track them down and delete them? It wouldn't be the safest solution...

Meh, I just hoped there was a way to tell acrobat "don't create a copy of the file because it's private". For now, I'm detecting the "downloads/Adobe Reader" folder, look if there's the file that was opened and delete it.
Now I need to know something that I can't ask on stackoverflow: what paths does Adobe Reader use to create the "Adobe Reader" folder? Because not every device has an external sd card (external, not removable. Just for clarity). Long hold on the document in mail and it should give you the open in... option, select adobe reader and the file is now saved locally for viewing even while offline.
