How can I disable Google Instant in Firefox 6 without saving cookies across sessions??

I'm currently using Firefox 3.6.22 & clear all history including cookies, etc. whenever I close Firefox. I can disable Google Instant by changing general.useragent.extra.firefox in about:config to Fx/3/6/22. When I tried Firefox 6, with the same history settings & config setting, Google Instant kept rearing its ugly head. Is there a setting in Firefox 6 that will allow me to disable Google Instant without having to set a preference each time I open Firefox 6?? I find Google Instant to be extremely annoying. Please help.
Thanks,
Steve W.

  • The windows of the Windows bar are already a form of tabs, so I don't need them in Firefox. How can I disable them completely from Firefox 23?

    RE: TABS ARE WINDOWS!
The Windows bar already functions as a tab bar. Those tabs are called "windows." So, I find Firefox tab windows superfluous. How can I disable them completely from Firefox 23? I don't need what is essentially TWO windows bars covering up the entire width of my widescreen monitor's image! I already have a Windows bar at the bottom of my screen and, if I really wanted to, I could change ITS position to the top of the screen, so that it would LOOK like the Firefox tab windows bar. Firefox TABS are, essentially, a superfluous SECOND WINDOWS BAR.
Here are my reasons for why I'd rather use Mozilla's Firefox, than Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Google's Chrome. I love and admire Firefox for Mozilla's intent on good security, for Firefox's Personas add-on, and for Firefox's free use of the Ad-Block add-on which, as you know, has the distinct virtue of reducing screen clutter--the last of which is my motive for wanting to get rid of the SUPERFLUOUS Firefox tabs "windows" bar. I am dreadfully sick of companies forcing miscellaneous bars (mostly representing marketing campaigns trying to sell me something) into my browser (and down my throat) every time I download something. (In case you haven't guessed, I am deliberately referring to your Firefox tabs bar as a "Firefox tabs 'windows' bar," because TABS are WINDOWS!)

Let me clarify even more. The Firefox add-on you mention does not remove "tabs" windows. It only HIDES the "tabs" bar when there is only one "tab" in that window. It DOES NOT end "tabs." It does not turn "tabs" off.
I know this, because, even with the add-on you recommend, the "tabs" bar often re-appears when I open a link, which--for some unknown reason--Firefox defaults to opening in a second "tab" within the same window, rather than putting it in a new Windows bar window. This, of course, disregards what I want to happen.
I want to use my Windows bar to control my windows. I do not want my Firefox browser controlling my windows--which it calls "tabs." Can you tell me how to shut off "tabs?"

  • How can I print a selection in Firefox 11 without it wasting paper and printing blank space in place of the non-selected material?

In Firefox 10 and before, I could select a small portion of a web page and it would print the selected portion on a single page. In Firefox 11, it prints blank space for the portion above my selection before printing my selection. This blank space could span several pages, and my printer prints those several blank pages with only headers and footers.

Still happens with Firefox 12. I wish they'd just fix it, the way it used to be in Firefox 10, without the complicated workaround suggested above.

  • I hate tabs; how can I disable them permanently in Firefox 3.6.9?

It appears that someone decided to mandate tabs in Firefox 3.6.9. A Google search of 'disable tabs Firefox' shows page upon page that reflect many users' dislike of tabbed browsing. Count me amongst them. If possible, please suggest a workaround, a setting, or an update to the add-in that will banish the tab 'feature' forever.

You can come a long way with setting some Firefox prefs or use specific sequences.

  • How can I Disable XI Plugin for Firefox?

I have disabled the plugin on the Firefox plugin page (Tools>Add-ons), but it re-enables.  I have changed the two .dll files to .dxx.  Tools>Options>Applications does not show .pdf.  I also tried to disable from within Reader's options panel with no success.  I really don't want anything to open in my browser.  Can anyone help?

Firefox by default uses its own PDF viewer, not the Adobe Reader plugin.  If you haven't manually changed that, it is not an Adobe Reader issue.

  • How can I disable DNS queries in Firefox (when using a proxy) ?

I am behind a "Chinese wall" and use an HTTP proxy to tunnel and encrypt my data traffic.
Unfortunately, Firefox still sends DNS queries for the websites, that I visit and reveals more information than I want.
Is there a way to disable DNS, when I use an HTTP/S proxy ?
My current workaround is to set a firewall rule for outbound DNS traffic of Firefox. But not all users are able to configure their firewall.

That is done via an onbeforeunload or onunload event that displays a JavaScript alert.

You can try to search for a Greasemonkey script to reset and block such events.

  • How can we disable the OSX Access Point functionality without disabling all wifi.

Curious if anyone knows a way in Lion/Mountain Lion to disable the OSX access point features.
i have about 50+ macs in our company for iOS development. lately we've had a lot of rogue AP's showing up, people bridging the internal network by activating the "become a hotspot" feature in OSX. this is a *GREAT* feature, don't get me wrong. especially the latency and ease of use.. but in our case its causing problems, and i'm looking at a way to disable the AP features without disabling ALL wifi with something like.
    /usr/sbin/networksetup -setairportpower en1 off
this is a bit too much ,it disables the entire airport/wifi. we want to only disable the access point capabilities.
any hardcore guru's out there have some advise?
    TIA!

Enabling sharing services requires administrative access, so one option is to set this and only give folks standard "managed" access. The Internet Sharing service is a process called "InternetSharing" that runs as the root user and establishes all the appropriate services for the needed connection. You could technically remove or even rename this process on systems to prevent it from being used, or remove or disable its launch daemon. These files are in the following directories:
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.InternetSharing.plist
    /usr/libexec/InternetSharing

    You can't.

  • How can I issue a warning if user exits without saving data first?

One of our clients has his users fill the LC Designer PDFs on their web site. They request that the users get a “Do you really want to exit?” warning,  if they navigate away from the form, after having made changes to it. I was able to simulate the AcroScript “Dirty” state by comparing the xfa.data.saveXML with the original document content. My problem is that I can’t seem to be able to issue the warning in time for the user to do something about it. I tried to use the DocClose event, but (as described in the documentation) there is no way for the user to go back to the document.

First you need to make sure that you have setup the machine with a valid app store account to tie the machine to the server OS.  To boot the MacMini so you can do RAID setup you must boot into recovery mode.  Hold down Command+R and power up.  Enter disk utility go through the steps to create the RAID which will erase everything on the HD.  You need to make sure the build gets completed.  Once done reboot into recovery mode again and you can do a OS install.  If I remember correctly this will just install the base OS.  Once you have setup the machine again with the valid app store account the server app will show up in the app store for you to download.
Of course if you don't want to rebuild everything you can hook up a USB harddrive and turn on time machine.  Makle sure it completes and you have several restore points.  Go through the RAID build process.  Once complete boot into recovery mode, with the USB drive attached, and you will have an option to restore from a time machine backup.

  • How do I disable scrolling tabs in Firefox 17?

How do I disable scrolling tabs in Firefox 17 without adding an extension from an
unverified author? Please include the exact steps for Linux, OSX and Windows.
Or I don't know put it back the way everyone wants it... Call me crazy.

Do you mean by setting a lower minimum width for the tabs to make more tabs fit on the tab bar before scroll buttons appear?
The Custom Tab Width extension adds this CSS rule and adjust the settings from the browser.tabs.tabMinWidth and browser.tabs.tabMaxWidth prefs.

I have a new MacBook Pro. I am using firefox version 7.0.1, but my homepage is set to google. Firefox constantly keeps opening new tabs to its own homepage by itself. How can I disable this feature.

    Hi [email protected]
If you have set Google to be your homepage, that should be the first one to appear. Are you seeing the Firefox home page when you open new tabs? New tabs should be blank by default. The only reason I've seen Firefox open new tabs with Firefox data on it is after an upgrade of the product.
