How can I disable iPhoto from automatically starting when I connect my iPhone?

Whenever I connect my iPhone to my Mac it automatically starts iPhoto?  How can I make this not happen?

  • How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?

Hi, well as the title states:
How do i stop iPhoto from automatically opening when I connect my iPhone?
    It's getting on my nerves...
    Thanks.

    This might also be helpful:
I wrote an AppleScript that asks me each time I connect the iPhone/camera/etc whether or not I want to open iPhoto. Usually I just hit return and it doesn't open, but once in a while I'll click Yes to open iPhoto and import videos from my phone. I just did it because it's nice to have a little reminder so I don't go for too too long without importing, but not have it slow things down each time I plug in.
Below is the script. Paste it into AppleScript Editor, then export it as an application. Then set Image Capture to open this app when you plug in your phone. Would love to hear if it's helpful for you or if you modify it to use other criteria to automatically import only at certain times or conditions.

set question to display dialog "Open iPhoto to import photos?" buttons {"Yes", "No"} default button 2
set answer to button returned of question
if answer is equal to "Yes" then

  • How can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air?

how can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air? i dont know my imessages to pop up on my laptop when it turns on. But i dont want to disable imessage totally on my macbook.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that Messages is closed when you turn off your MacBook. This is so important because, by default, OS X will reopen all opened apps the next time you start your Mac.
Apart from that, when you go to  > Shut Down, or  > Restart, in the window you see to restart or turn off your MacBook, unmark "Reopen windows when logging back in". This will avoid that your Mac opens all opened apps the next time you start the MacBook, so Messages won't start automatically at startup

  • How do I disable iphoto from automatically launching when I plug in my iPhone?

Trying to figure out how to disable iphoto from automatically launching on my Macbook Pro every time I plug in my iphone via USB cable. Tried looking at preferences in iphoto and itunes, but can't seem to find anything. Thanks!

It is your preference in iphoto.
Set it not to open when a digital camera is connected.

  • How can I prevent videos from automatically starting when I load a web site?

Recently web sites have begun not only showing me the first shot of a video, but starting the video automatically when the page loads (or when I scroll down to the part of the page where the video is located). This happens on various news sites (nytimes.com), facebook, and other places. How can I prevent the autostart from happening?
I've got AdBlockPlus and NoScript enabled, although I whitelist many sites in NoScript. Videos used to wait for me to click an arrow in the middle (like a "play" button) to start; some still do, but most don't. (I believe an add-on is responsible for the play button, but I don't recall which one.)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

The chosen answer is not an answer at all.
The question remains unanswered: How does one prevent unwanted video content from playing automatically on web websites? The problem is most notable on news sites such as ABC News.
It is really, really, really really really, really, really, really really really, really, really, really really really irritating. More irritating, in fact, than when people cut and paste a word a dozen times to emphasize it.
MORE IRRITATING THAN WHJEN PEOPLE USE ALL CAPS OUT OF FRUSTRATION BECAUSE NO ONE SEEMS TO LISTEN OR TO CARE THAT I AM SLOWLY LOSING MY MIND BECAUSE EVERY FLIPPING WEB PAGE IN EXISTENCE PLAYS VIDEAS THAT I DON'T WANT TO WATCH.
More irritating than repeatedly stating the same thing over and over and over and over... wait. I already illustrated that tautology. Never mind.
Does anyone have an answer? If there is no answer, and the powers that be at Firefox have decided that we have no choice, then state so. If those who decide what HTML "is" have decided that individuals have no power to opt out of video content on any given web page, then say so.
If Obama is to blame, then say so. If Bush is to blame, then say so.
But don't say, "the web [page may be using HTML 5 to play video" because THAT is a NON-ANSWER, let alone the "best" answer.

  • How can I stop iPhoto from automatically launching when iPads are connected to my MacBook Pro?

We currently have 20 iPads (2 different models) and we are using Configurator. Everytime we connect our ipads (via two usbs from our sync and charge trolley) iPhoto launches. Why does this happen and how do I stop it?

    never mind - all fixed!

  • How can I disable Firefox from automatically opening on system startup on my Mac - unchecking the "open at login" does not work?

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.

For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
    1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go.

  • How can I prevent iPhoto from auto-launching when I plug in a card reader?

When I plug in a card reader, iPhoto assumes that it is being summoned and auto-magically launches itself. I don't want this to happen. I don't want iPhoto to ever launch without my permission, which I might grant once a year or so. Yet, every day I have to cope with it launching multiple times as I attempt to transfer photos to my hard drive. It is a minor annoyance, true, but it is an annoyance.
My question, then, is how can I make iPhoto stop doing this? I've searched its settings high-and-low, but to no avail. I've searched the System Preferences high-and-low, but to no avail. There must be something I'm missing.
Help me, Apple Forums, you're my only hope!

    Hi John,
the next info is on using Image Capture to download the images. In the preferences though, you can choose to have nothing open when the camera is connected.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

Finally sorted the same problem on both my pcs. If you are a member of Facebook, then the problem likely is because of that. What I did to spot Spotify automatically starting up. 1. Log into Facebook, and then into Account.2. Go to Account Settings (on Facebook).3. From there go to Apps (on left side of screen).4. Find Spotify in the list of Apps that shows up and press the "x" button to the right of "Edit".5. Log out of Facebook.6. Log out of your PC.7. Restart the PC.8. Spotify will still appear asking you to log in with Facebook or Spotify password.9. Log in to Spotify with your Facebook password.10. On Spotify - go to Edit (top left of Spotify screen).11. Scroll down to Preferences.12. Scroll ALL the way down to the bottom, and IF it says Log on Automatically, click the "Don't Open Automatically".13. Log out of Spotify.14. Log out of your PC.15. When you switch your pc on again - the problem hopefully, as in my case, was resolved. I have had this problem with other things starting automatically in the past, and it has always been because it is an "App" appearing in my Facebook list. Do the things listed above in that order and hopefully it will work. Hope this helps. Good luck.Steve.

  • Disabling iTunes from automatically starting when Headphone plugged in

Hi, I have a Macbook Pro running OS X Yosemite Ver 10.10.1. Whenever I plug in my Apple headphone it in, the iTunes automatically starts and I would like to disable the same. Some times its very much annoying where in, even if I am talking on FaceTime using my head phone, (I am guessing some small movements of headphone triggering this) the  iTunes starts automatically and the songs start to play during the FaceTime call.
Does any one know how to disable the iTunes from not starting up automatically, whenever a Headphone is inserted into Mac. I can start iTunes whenever I want like any other application. But I just don’t want any automatic starting of iTunes, when I plug the headphone! Appreciate any help in this regard. Thanks!

I think the following solution seems to work:
+ Go to the  - System Preferences - Users and groups //Need admin privilege and unlock to edit etc.
+ Remove iTunes from Login Items
    + Click Login Items
+ then select iTunes Helper and then the - to remove the application
+ Force quit the iTunes if it was already running
Problem did not seem to reoccur in my case. I have not restarted the mac but it seemed to work! Try yours and update please.

  • How can I stop Foxfire from automatically loading when I turn on my computer that runs on Windows Vista?

Foxfire automatically loads when I boot up my computer after all the other essential programs boot up. I'd like to know how to disable the start-up menu link that allows the program to load up when the computer first starts up because the Foxfire browser isn't needed when I first start the computer. Besides, when I first start my computer, it's inevitably not hooked to the internet and it's just a bit annoying to see foxfire load when it's not needed. Furthermore, it takes up precious memory in the RAM when it's running, thus slowing down my machine. Please, someone show me how to keep this program from booting when I start up my computer. By the way, my system is Windows Vista and Foxfire does not show up in the start-up folder. Only by going to the default program page and clicking on Foxfire does it show that Foxfire has a hidden default that makes it start when the computer starts. All I'm looking for is to not see it when I boot my computer.

Thanks for pointing me to the link about the startup programs changes. I found the solution there. Foxfire was hiding in the hidden startup menu. Once I found it using msconfig, I was able to stop it from loading when I started my computer. Again, thanks for the help.

  • How do I keep ITunes from automatically starting when I boot my PC?

Everytime I start my PC, my I tunes starts automatically. I close it an it automatically starts again 5-6 minutes later. It happens when my IPhone is not connected. The problem began immediately after I updated to the new IPhone iOS 5 software.

I appreciate the help attempt greatly, however, I do not have an Iphone, only an Ipod that I use with Itunes. Basically I have Itunes on my Windows PC, (NOT MAC) and it just has a mind of its own and opens randomly, whenever. I have scanned and searching the Itunes application for something to click off for automatically run, or something to that effect and I see nothing. There has to be a way to disable Itunes from running automatically. It has nothing to do with whether or not my ipod is attached.

  • How do I prevent Firefox from automatically starting when I boot-up my Mac in the morning?

Whenever I boot up my Mac in the morning Firefox automatically starts and displays my home page. I would only like to see the desk top with no applications running. I am running OSX 10.4.11 on my laptop.
== Started possibly a few weeks ago.

Hmm.. Okay I've done a bit more digging and tried the following two things before the last restart.. Not sure which one actually worked but give these a shot (one at a time) and let us know which is the ''actual'' solution! :)
    1. Open Safari -> Preferences -> General
    - change "Default Web Browser" to Safari
    - Close all applications
    - Relaunch Safari and change default browser back to Firefox.
    2. Remove the check from "Reopen windows when logging in" in the logout dialog and logout of the computer..
I suspect step 2 is actually the proper solution, but I did both so, hopefully one of them works for everyone else!

I had a similar issue last week from a customer.
It seems that MS-Office fiddle a lot in the preferences and plist's during installation.
Performing a permission repair (Disk Utility) does the trick in that case.
