How can I do this in FCP?

Hi guys! Currently an FCE user, but gonna buy FCP5 tomorrow if I can get a guaranteed way of making this work in FCP! Kind-of reached the limitations of 'Express really...
Right then, this is what I wanted to do! I want to create some titles for something I want to produce in October, it's a documentary about London Architecture (wanna do architecture at Uni, looks a good thing to film too....) Anyway, working fine on the script, but here's the animation plan :
Black screen, a few credits, then slowly tilts down through different colours (so through black, and through all different blues) until it gets to the London skyline, with a blue sky (the blue sky is that last blue in the tilt thing we just did). Anyway, the water is rippling etc.
Now, clouds suddenly appear (as in speed in from off screen). This would be easy to do as I've green-screened the sky area above the buildings and have a cloud-clip ready to go!
Now, how do I do that? Got the water animated, and that's in a Flash file. Now, in this Flash file is the skyline of buildings, a light and dark green sky and the animated water. THis is all that I've done. Is it possible to do the rest? What would I need?
Now the two problems I've found are how to link the image (the going through the colours bit) and the clouds. What happens right now is I can't animate the still image (the colour spectrum) as FCE doesn't do it, but also, when you tilt down it, you'll just end up on the image of the city skyline with a green / white background, then the cloud clip will play. The other problem is the Flash file with the skyline in is around 300*240 pixels (or something like that). It scales up to 2000*something with no loss of resolution. But when imported into FCE it treats it as if it's that small size and blurs it all when I try and increase the size.
How can I sort these problems? Will FCP allow me to all of this? How will I do it in FCP?

I've sorted the water effect, so nothing to worry about there. The main problem I see happening is that if I tilt down through these colours (finishing on the skyline image), then there' jsut gonna be a gap in the sky until the clouds move in. How would I solve this? Can I fill the green background with a colour, and still have the clouds overlay? Despite having no green-screen to work with?
The clouds thing seems simple. I have a clip of clouds floating by (on a sky), it's just the bit in-between the cloud movie and colour-gradient... How do I do this?
Will see if I can resize it in Flash then...!

BenB it creates a disc image only and it's not in .m2v. I think it saved it as an Apple Pro Res 422 format instead. The disc image file format will not allow
Toast 11 to create menus etc. Thanks for your help.

Need to open .fcp project from FCP7 in FCPX 10.0.3. How can I achieve this without exporting the original from FCP7 to a QT movie? I need the original timeline in FCPX.

I have been working on a scholarship short film for a couple of months now (am a senior in high school) and have been using my school's Mac Pros with OSX 10.7 and FCP7 to edit it. Yesterday I bought a Macbook Pro and got FCPX, and am having trouble moving everything over (the computers at school are going to be wiped for the end of the year soon and I must continue to edit it on my MacBook). The project file "MattsShort.fcp" from FCP7 at school isn't even being recognized as a project file by the newest version of FCPX, so obviously I cannot open it and get to work connecting the media. How can I open this file in FCPX? Excluding exporting the project at school to a quicktime movie, I need to be able to further edit the timeline.

Cool, thanks! I was able to import the timeline into FCPX but all of the files are offline, even though I imported the same exact clips that were in the original FCP7 project, into the same 'event' that I have the new FCPX timeline in. I believe the problem lies in that FCPX imported the clips and named them after the date and time they were created, rather than the "Clip #XXX" that FCP7 assigned to the timeline. Does this sound correct? And if so, is the only way to solve this problem to go back to FCP7 and rename all of the clips assigned to the timeline to the names FCPX gave them? I really hope there is a simpler solution but given all of the work it takes to even import a FCP7 project into FCPX, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the only solution.
A little more info: When I use 7toX to convert the XML file, it says that my media will be offline.
EDIT: I just watched a youtube video that explained that 7toX brings over the required media.....why isn't it doing that for me? I am on two different computers if I hadn't already said.

Since starting with FCP X, there has been tons of issues, now that the product actually works with the exception above, makes it impossible to share the production. Has Apple fixed this problem. is there a knowledge base article on this?
On another note, One reason I have not purchased support on FCP X is because you sold a product that never worked for almost an entire year or more.   Now I can finally finish my project, I cannot share it.....Really. This has to be fixed now, I am loosing money as I typed this.

Just curious, why would repairing permissions, rebooting ( rebooted 2 times already today) or creating a new user possibly fix this.
I cannot create a new user, that is way too much work. I will repair permissions again, I repaired permissions just a few days ago. Then I will reboot, login and turn off App Nap and rerun the Share DVD.
There must be something seriously wrong with the OS if your are suggesting creating another user.   WOW!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
-Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
-Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.

i had one for a long time, then when i got the ipad i didn't realize they would all still work under one so i set up the second one on that
then when i got the new iphone i put in the info for the first and main one from my mac pro and it would not work at all, and i knew it was right, then it asked me to create a new one or i couldnt finish the setup
hence why i have 3 now

I have an IMac which is my main computer and two IPads and an Ipod Nano.
Obviously we use these in sync as an when required via Itunes.
I have recommended a friend to have an IPAD2 and she wishes to load some of her existing cds into her Itunes Account.
If I wish to do this with my own, it is simple as we simply use the Imac which transfers content into Itunes.
However, my friend does not have a separate computer so I wish to load her CD's into Itunes and then sync to her Ipad without interfering with my own library and using her Apple ID.
How can I achieve this?

You cannot. Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.

Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.

You copy them from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The iphone is not a backup/storage device.

The problem is probably that the index is corrupt and you need to completely re-create it rather than rebuilding individual mailboxes. I have no idea what the situation really is now after having tinkered with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/, though, so the following procedure may or may not work.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
After having fixed all filesystem issues, if any, and making sure that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), try this:
1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
4. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

I am at a new office that uses Outlook (not Outlook Exchange) which does not sync with my mobile... I just got iCloud set up on my PC to sync my contacts, calendar, reminders, etc... The sync worked (not without flaws, but the other issues seem solvable... I think), so that i can now see all my appointments on both my phone and on my PC. The problem I am having is that iCloud moved all of my calendar items from Outlook into iCloud calendar and now when I send out meeting/calendar invites the recipients may accept them, but the meeting does not get added to their calendar. This is a huge problem and may mean that i need to turn off iCloud.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

I am replying to my own post here as I seem to have fixed the problem.
I do have some calendars that are shared. Some of those are shared with users who have time zone support turned on. So i activated time zone support on my iphone, then deleted my icloud subscription. I then signed in to icloud again and voila... problem solved.
It is a weird one as the other calendar views were always fine and when you opened an event that appeared in the wrong day (on list view), the correct date of the event was shown in the information...

My 2009 iMac freezes and won't run more than one application at a time - how can I fix this?

Help! My iMac has been getting worse regarding freezing, especially when trying to open iPhoto. It will load slowly, and then I get the pinwheel of death for ever, until I shutdown and try over again. It usually takes several tries, and usually overnight. How can I resolve this issue?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
Step 1
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.

Step 2
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Reset the System Management Controller.
Run Software Update. If there's a firmware update, install it.
If you're booting from an aftermarket SSD, see whether there's a firmware update for it.
If you have a portable computer, check the cycle count of the battery. It may be due for replacement.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane. See whether there's any change.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
If you have a MacBook Pro with dual graphics, disable automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saverpreference pane for better performance at the cost of shorter battery life.
Step 3
When you notice the problem, launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the View menu or the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for User, System, and Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the Memory tab. What value is shown in the bottom part of the window for Swap used?
Next, select the Disk tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in andWrites out.)
Step 4
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.
