I was installing Mac X Lion on my iMac when the power went off. A error message says install failed, Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer, The installer encountered an eror that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance. Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again. When I restart it keeps going to install Lion and getting the same error message. I tried starting with holding the option key down and selecting Mac Hard disk, but again it keeps going to the installer and the error comes again.

Now, with this action accomplished, you may go on. BArney - 15E is optimistic and says how to restart in recovery mode—this may be possible if installation was complete for recovery partition (I doubt this, but I may be wrong).
Otherwise, I would reinstall from the scratch. If after connecting your ill mac via FW, you may see the disk in good order, you should also see the Lion installer within Applications folder. Copy it unto an external disk or flash disk and keep it safe, you will need it again.

There have been some reported problems with Apple's servers.
Try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
I assume you are trying to update via wifi. You can also connect the iPad to your computer and update using iTunes.

If it is running then it is compatible.
To purchase Lion call the phone number in the Apple Online Store and purchase a download code for Lion, which you will "redeem" in the App Store to purchase it.
You will need to erase your system and reinstall Snow Leopard to install Lion, since its installer will not overwrite an existing Mountain Lion installation. If you have software that is incompatible with Mountain Lion you would be better off waiting for its developers to update their software, or fixing whatever else is wrong, than resorting to this inconvenient option.

After following QuickTimeKirk's instructions. After the download, you should find "Install Mac OS X Lion" in the Applications folder. You can copy this to any other system you own or control and install Lion.

You can go to the Apple online store and purcahse a copy of Mountain Lion. This will give you a redemption code, which you can use to download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Unfortuantely, I'm not aware of any other way to legally purchase it. I have never seen Apple release Muontain Lion on DVD.
In terms of Apple Service, they just need the serial number of the machine to check the purcahse date. It is usually correct, to within a few weeks. A quick Google search should give you the correct number to dial.
