How can I download Adobe Reader for a friend who has dialup and can't spend 500 hours doing it?

We used to be able to download Adobe Reader. Not any more. Now we can only download a file that does the real downloading. If I want to download a PDF reader that a friend on dialup can install, I need to download something besides Adobe.

    You may be confusing Adobe Flash - which is known for security issues - with Adobe Reader perhaps.
    I think you are safe to download Adobe Reader. Always update the software when updates are available since many updates do include security fixes as well as bug fixes and any new features that have been added.
    I have always had some version of Adobe Reader on all of my Macs and have never had any virus, Trojan or Malware on any of them.

    Looking at Adobe's site there is version 10.3 for Intel Macs running OSX 10.4 or 10.5.  There is version 11 for Macs running OSX 10.6 or newer.  Most web sites don't really need the newest FlashPlayer, but if you are trying to view one that really does intensive video then maybe it does require Flash 11.  You aren't very specific as to which exact error message you are seeing.
    If a site does require FlashPlayer 11 then you will have to upgrade your operating system.

    If you cannot save the forms with Reader 8, you cannot do it with Reader
    6. Perhaps you had Acrobat 6 which is a commercial product as opposed to
    Reader which is free.
