I thought that I heard if you own iLife 09, you can download imovie HD for free. Does anybody have that link?

You can get iMovie 06 in a number of ways. You cannot download it FROM APPLE any longer (it was free for a time). You can also find iMovie 06 on the iLife 06 install disc. You can buy iLife 06 on Amazon or eBay.
But be prepared to pay about double the cost of iLife 09 (but well worth every penny). Seller's are becoming aware of its value.
If you buy the iLife 06 disk, only install iMovie 06 from it. iMovie 06 will not delete anything and it works fine with iDVD 09.

The easiest way is to install Mountain Lion, and then you can download iMovie 11. If your Mac is supported by Mountain Lion, performance should be fine.
The other way would be to try to find a retail boxed copy of iLife 11 from eBay or Amazon. You can then install iMovie 11 up to version 9.04. But that is it, you cannot get 9.07 without at least installing Lion.

I really appreciate all your help. Today I spent some time on the problem. First I purchased any video converter from the ap store and then I connected the camera to the mac with the original usb cable that came with the camera. I turned on the camera and selected backup on pc and the logo came up on my home page. I opened it and after several attempts i found the 3 video files that were on the camera. I then converted them from a tod file to mp4 and then transfered them to imovie. Now I have to figure out how to send the video to youtube or move it to an external hard drive which I have not been able to do. So far I am not too fond of imovie 11. If you could send me the download for imovie 6 I then could try that route. When talking to apple support yesterday about the problem they suggested to get Final Cut Express. It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

Unfortunately, as recommended by the lady from CA, as long as the Mac is still associated with the Apple ID of the original owner, you can't even buy those iLife apps with that Mac. You will always get the alert to download them with the original owner's Apple ID.
As suggested by the chavo from España, you need the original owner to contact Apple Care* and request that the OS and the iLife apps be disassociated from his Apple ID. Then you should be free to OS X Recovery to resinstall the most recent version of OS X that shipped with the Mac and install the iLife apps. Afterward, before using any of the iLife apps you need to open the Mac App Store (MAS) to the Purchases pane and Accept these apps into your MAS account's Apple ID. If you use any of the iLife apps before you have accepted them into your account, as per the app's Terms of Use, they all become one-trick-ponies that can not be downloaded onto another Mac or updated.

I can watch the whole movie in my iPod (from inside the application) perfectly, and in fact is the only file I made with that app.
I already have it in my "Camera Roll", too. And I can watch it perfectly from there, too.
Another thing that perhaps you must know is that I tried to "export" it from the app, and a pop up said "Unable to Export - This project contains video clips which have been deleted from your photo library."

When you start up Handbrake, you will need to identify the source that you are copying. I assume you have an Optical drive by which you can read the DVD. Then it is a matter of clicking on the various options for the copying process, especially insuring you know where the copied file will be. It wil be in an MP4 format, which can then be viewed by Quickplay or QuickTime.. It can be also be imported into iMovie, using the import function under the File menu.

For iMovie 11, you will need to download a free tool called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. (Google it). This is a very handy tool to have if you make videos.
In iMovie, select the clip that contains the frame that you want. Right-click on the clip and select Reveal in Finder.
You should see the clip highlighted in the Finder. Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip. Move the playhead to the frame you want. Then click FILE/EXPORT FRAME. You can choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG.

It sounds like you are trying to download a previous purchase to your iPad but the item never downloads. I would recommend starting by closing all the apps that are running in the background.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that, sign out of your iTunes account in Settings > iTunes and App stores, and restart the phone and try again:
