I want/need to upgrade my software but every time I follow the directions it says that there are no updates for my computer at this time. I got it back in 2008 and it hasn't been updated since and I need to new software for a project I'm doing. What can I do? Help please.

  • How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion?

How do I download Safari for Mountain Lion? It's not in the App Store, it is nowhere on the Apple website . . . OK, so I guess it is supposed to be part of Mountain Lion, but I am running Mountain Lion and whatever version of Safari I ended up with would not even run at all . . .  so I trashed it (or at least what part of it I was allowed to trash) and though reinstalling it would be a good idea . . . but I can't find one to reinstall. The latest version I can find is for Leopard, and of course that won't run.
Not to mention that since getting Mt Lion, iPhoto won't run . . . it produces an error message saying I need to check with the developer to make sure it runs with this version of OS X! So I wonder who the developer of iPhoto is, who produces software that is incompatible with Mt Lion???
And even in submitting this there is no option to tag it for any OS later than 10.7.4!!

Since Safari is crashing, post a crash report...   reinstalling the OS X rarely helps a browser crash issue.
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

  • How can i download and install OSX LION on my old black macbook from 2009?

how can i download and install OSX LION on my old black macbook from 2009?

Click here, buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, install it, and run the Mac OS X 10.6.8 combo updater. You can then either buy Mountain Lion 10.8 from the Mac App Store or phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

  • Can I download and use Mountain Lion without Lion downloaded first

Can i download and use Mountain Lion if I haven't downloaded Lion yet?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion from Mac OS X Snow Leopard or OS X Lion, so you can install Mountain Lion without having OS X Lion.
Just open App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. If you aren't using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you have to buy it. Don't forget to make a backup with Time Machine and/or Carbon Copy Cloner before upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion. Also, check if your apps are supported > http://www.roaringapps.com

  • Can't download 10.8 mountain lion from app store

    Hi,
I own a 2008 mac pro. The system drive was still running an original install of osx (upgraded to the latest version of 10.8). It had become pretty slow, so I bought a new ssd for a fresh install of the os.
I own 10.6 on dvd, which I have used previously on another computer to acomplish the exact same thing I'm trying to do here; install 10.6 on a new drive, then upgrade to 10.8 (the only way I know how to do this).
So I did the usual - new drive in, old drive out, install 10.6, update 10.6 until the "app store" becomes available. So I'm now running 10.6.8. I open the app store, log in, go to "my purchases" and see osx mountain lion sitting in the list. It says I purchased it on the 12th of November, 2012, which is correct. If I click on "osx mountain lion", the app store informs me that "Item not available. The item you've requested is not currently available in the UK store". I bought the "item". I paid good money Apple. Why can't I download this? If I click "download" a little spinny thing appears for a couple of seconds next to the back/forward arrows, then disappears.
10.9 is unsupported with the software I use - everyone's reporting faults, so I need 10.8. Can someone help? Obviously I can just put the old drive back in, but this NEEDS to be available somehow...?
    Thanks

    That's good to hear.
After some mucking about I managed to get it downloading on another computer (which is already running 10.8). Hopefully I should be able to copy it over and install.
But I will let Apple know - potentially pretty disasterous for people.
    Thanks.

  • How can I reinstall JAVA on Mountain Lion?

The last Java Update screwed up Java on Mountain Lion. Thanks a lot, Apple. This is where blinking/flashing images etc etc start, and it also affects the three-finger word-look-up gesture. I compared my mac running Facebook in Safari with one in an AppleStore and the one in the shop renders the Java stuff flawlessly -- no blinking or flashing graphics, and the three-finger tap gesture works perfectly. Both macs were running the same version of Java, OS X and Safari.
If I turn off Javascript and Java (in Safari) I don't get the flashing images and three-finger-tap works.
So my question is (after reading similar threads of the same topic): IS there any one-click solution to this -- can I reinstall Java, or do I have to re-install Mountain Lion... JUST to get Java working again??!?
And per the above.. why ISN'T there a standalone Java re-installer for OS X? How difficult could it be??

I just found the solution, thanks to the "MORE LIKE THIS" links:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
That's where you can download the standalone installer!! I did it, ran it, and it works. Solved all the problems I've been having.
Thing is.... why is it hidden???

  • I can't download previously purchased Mountain Lion in the App Store.

So after having some hard drive problems, I reinstalled 10.6 from the disk that came with my MBP, and I'm trying to upgrade again to my previously purchased copy of Mountain Lion (I'm realizing now that I probably went about this the wrong way...).
Anyway, I can't seem to be able to download Mountain Lion. It shows up in Purchases, and when I click Download, the button greys out for a second while the spinny thing spins, then the Download button goes back to normal and I don't see any indication that anything's downloading.
Here's what it looks like after I press the Download button:
I'd love any advice or feedback!
    Ryan

I had already installed the combo update, but after restarting and checking for updates, a security update became available, and after installing that, everything is working normally. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

  • I installed Maverick It turns off for no reasons, makes Safari a miserable experience, and more.  How can I get back to Mountain Lion?

Maverick is a mess, well up to MS at its best.  i installed it over Mountain Lion on a base Air that initially came with Lion.  The worst is when the screen suddenly goes blank.  After a few times, i found tha tsimpy pressing the power button brought up the welcome screen which - after the password - took me back to where I was with no loss, bu tthe first time was horrible.  Then WORD for MAC started behaving strangely, with normal operations simply not working - shading to copy or cut out, for instance.  Click again and again, no shading - then suddenly it workds!  Safari has similar issues.  So too with other software downladed earlier.  simply nothing works as well as all did under Mountain Lion.
So, I want to deep six Maverick and get back to Mountain Lion.  I assume that if I use CONTROL R I will simply reload Maverick.  Can I download Mountain Lion from the App Store and then ???  All the copying and such - a half day lost.  Is there are easier way?
    <Edited by Host>

It's Command-R, not Control-R. You won't lose your files or settings if you reinstall 10.9 this way. Why don't you give that a go before reverting to 10.8.

  • HT1444 How can I get OS X Mountain Lion if I have an iMac Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) ?

How can I get the OS X Mountain Lion if I have an iMac Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) ? Or I need to buy a new computer???

Depending on which model of iMac you have, you may be able to get it by going through Mac OS X 10.6(phone the Apple Store), or you may need to buy a newer computer.

  • HT4718 How can i reinstall OS X Mountain Lion on my computer after my hard drive failed and i had a new one installed?

I paid for Mountain Lion about 2 months ago and my Hard drive just crashed.  Is there a way i can reinstall Mountain lion without having to pay again?

What OS did it ship with? If it was Lion, then you can use Internet Recovery to install on the new drive. IR will install the original shipping OS. You can then log into the App store and upgrade to Mountain Lion.
If it came with Snow Leopard, you will need to install Snow Leopard from your install DVD, then upgrade to Mountain Lion.

  • How can i upgrade to OSX Mountain Lion other than from the app store?

I am trying to upgrade to OSX Mountain Lion from OSX Lion but i get this message:
"We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."
Further I am able to download other programs from the app store (like growl) but it does not work for Mountail Lion ????
I looked through the forum and one post said that i have to use lion recovery to reinstall osX lion but then it defetes the objective of upgrading.
    Please help me
    Cheers

If your system's not compatible with 10.8 and has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for 10.7.

  • How can I tell if my mountain lion installation failed?

My 2007 MBP has been updating to 10.8 from 10.7 now for about 3 hours. I see an Apple logo on the main screen, the keyboard is lit, and that's it. If I put my ear up to the machine around where the HD is, I hear noise, but no seeking (not that I really ever heard any from this HD).
Anyone know how long this can take? Should I "pull the plug" and see what happens? I have a backup I can restore from (2 actually).
    TIA

Make sure you blow out the dust in your machine.
Try reseating the video card (remove and reinsert).
What kind of monitor and what kind of video card are you using?

  • How can Mail of OS X Mountain Lion read Chinese Characters?

Mail cannot read Chinese characters. Message looks like a series of "??????". However, Safari can read Chinese characters. What setting can make Mail read Chinese Characters?

    Pippi10 wrote:

Normally that indicates an encoding glitch, where the email headers are not telling Mail the right encoding to use.  The first thing to try is Message > Text Encoding and see if UTF-8 or one of the various Chinese encodings give the right display.
Also go to View > Message > Raw Source and tell us what you see in the headers that say "charset=  ".
