How can I download songs from my PC to my new Mac?

I am having trouble transfering the songs from my PC to my Mac. I was told that I can use iCloud but I'm not sure how to do that. Can someone please help me?

As you hinted at earlier, you can also use the cloud to re-download all of your previously purchased items from the iTunes Store on your new Mac. An article about doing that can be found here:

Re-downloading all your purchased music (apps, ibooks, videos, everything) is easy if you purchased them from Apple. Assuming they are still available, you simply download them again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
Retrieving music that you copied from CD or other sources is not easy. Music is supposed to go from your computer to the iPhone, not the other way around. Moving its content to a computer is contrary to the design.
I wish I had a dollar for everyone with a Windows PC who asked this question. Given their predilection for attracting viruses and other sordid malware, Windows PCs crash with disturbing regularity. Now that you made the wise decision to replace it with a MacBook, get an external backup disk (external hard disk drive, or Time Capsule) and simply use Time Machine. Plug it in and Time Machine does the rest. The drudgery of backing up your system becomes painless and totally forgettable, and recovering from a crash becomes a non-event.

You can't load songs from a CD straight to your iPod. You must first rip them into iTunes and then transfer to your iPod. Also, if you want to transfer songs manually to iPod, make sure that you are not set up for automatic sync with iTunes.

iTunes Match is ran strictly off of Wi-Fi or a Cellular connection. Devices with iTunes Match turned off can have both the computer and device without any connection to the internet to download music via USB. However, iTunes Match is ran off of iCloud—a Wi-Fi/Cellular based product.
If you would like to download a song on your device connected to the internet:
Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi or a Cellular Network.
Make sure your device is running iOS 5.0 or higher (only iDevices can run iTunes Match).
Go to "Music" and you will see music able to be downloaded from the cloud. (If you do not see your music, make sure you have General > Music > Show All Music "ON".)
Click the cloud symbol next to the songs you would like to stream them on your phone and without a Wi-Fi/Cellular connection.

one way to can simply do this (if dragging and dropping won't work), is to simply put the songs that you would like in the playlist into the On-The-Go playlist in your iPod. Once you have put these songs into the On-The-Go folder (by highlighting the song and holding down the center button), simply plug the ipod back into your computer, and rename the folder with the songs in it. I have an iMac 12,1 running OS X 10.6.8, 4GB memory, processor 2.5 GHz and want to download photos from my G4 Android phone. I can't find a slot that the mini memory card fits into, and have read that I can connect my phone to a USB port and download photos that way. This is just the way I transfer photos on my phone to my computer.
I created an email account exclusively for this and sent the photos from my phone to the email account.
Then it was just a matter of logging into the email account from my computer and downloading the images.

I have read the manual on how to transfer a file from a computer to my I-Pad. It says in I-Tunes, go to devices Apps pane...
I open the I-Tunes App and can not find anything referencing an Apps pane.
What am I missing?

You connect your device to your comptuer and open iTunes. Once it 'sees' the ipad, you can click on the name of your device and then you should see the tabs. In the Apps tab is your interface to remove apps, also to use the file transfer protocol - if your app supports that - to move files from your computer to your iPad. You can also use this interface to move the app icons from menu page to menu page on your device.
First, to use that apps tab, you'll need an app that'll read PDF files.
The file structure on an iPad is different than that from a computer or Mac. There is no general 'overall' file manager. Every file on your iPad needs to be associated with an app. So to read PDF files, you'll first need to install an app. iBooks will read PDF files. as will ReaddleDocs. I also see goodreader recommended a lot. So just search for PDF reader and find one that looks good to you.
Install the app. After the app is installed, you can go to the apps tab and move files onto your device.
