How Can I Download 'Windows Support Software' after Boot Camp Install of XP?

I successfully ran Boot Camp and installed WinXP SP3 on my son's 2009 MBP, which is currently running OSX 10.6.8. We were prompted to download the Windows support software, and said 'yes', but it would not allow us to download anything.
Is there a website we could download the 'Windows support software' directly from?
As a result--I think this is due to lack of 'Windows support software'--we are unable to connect to our wireless network for internet while on the WinXP partition.
At this point he cannot locate the original disk that came with his MBP. I'm wondering if that original disk would even be appropriate, since his MBP came with 10.5 originally. He is on his 3d hard drive (Applecare!) and they loaded 10.6.8 this last time.
Thanks,
Greg

10.5 OEM or retail DVD is the best and maybe only place to get XP 2.x drivers to get you started so you can then update Boot Camp support drivers to 2.2.
Replacement OEM DVD from Apple - call - are probably $10-20.
There were Boot Camp 2.1 and 2.2 direct downloads, just not for the 2.0.x that you need first to get started. Weird method. Posting seems to antathema.
I deleted my old bookmarks but those drivers were found from support page:

Wait, it can take hours (as much as 4 hours has been reported, 1 is more common)

  • Downloading windows support software through boot camp stuck around 20 percent of the way.

downloading windows support software through boot camp stuck around 20 percent of the way. tried several times same thing. I don't have original snow leopard disks. MBP mid 2010 8gb ram 15'. is there any other way to get the drivers for Windows? I do have latest LION...

I personally never had problems with these downloads in Lion but it seems to be flaky for others.
In this threadhttps://discussions.apple.com/message/16605226#16605226there's a link to download the BootCamp 4.0 Driver package.

Doesn't make sense why it would tell you that. The 3.x drivers for both the 64 and 32 bit versions of Windows 7 can be downloaded from Apple's own site.
64 and 32 bit 3.1 update drivers after applying the initial drivers from your Snow Leopard DVD within Windows 7:

  • Hi, where can I manually download windows support software for boot camp windows 7 installation, I am trying through boot camp but its like taking forever to download its been 5 hours but boot camp still have't completed the download

can any one give me a link to download them manually

create a Windows support software (drivers) CD or USB storage media
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407
Advanced Network: Proxy Settings, I uncheck "Auto Proxy detection" and make sure you have the interface you use selected and none others.
"Go into System Preferences - Network - Advanced - Proxies  Uncheck "Auto Proxy Discovery", click OK, Apply"
After Unchecking "Auto Proxy Discovery" I also had to Uncheck "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" and then Restart Boot Camp Assistant.
odiggy's comment and tried restarting Boot Camp Assistant. That did the trick, even though the Auto Proxy Discovery checkbox ended up the same as it started.  Windows support software is now downloading...  if you're downloading to an external drive make sure there's a least 1 GB of free space because the WindowsSupport folder is around 700 MB and presumably will grow with time.

Also, Change Domain Name Servers to OpenDNS IP address servers - that should be at the router firewall rather than the OS but may be in both for some people. You may be using the defaults your ISP uses, save those if you want, and try these:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Make sure you are not using LittleSnitch or Symantec (probably other 3rd party firewall)

    Hi,
apart from the MacBook Air this feature is of no use for other Macs right now.
Simply ingnore it (click "I already have the Drivers...) and continue with the installation.
Sorry to say but you need the OSX Install DVD for the BootCamp Driver installation.
The 3.0 version of the BootCamp Drivers is only avaiable on the disc.
Later updates (3.1 and 3.2) can be downloaded from Apples Support website.
Call Apple and ask for a replacement and they usually send you one for a small fee.
And have the Serial-Number of your Mac at hand when calling.
And since the OSX Install DVD can also be vital for maintenance and repair it is best to have one.
The needed BootCamp Drivers are on the OSX Install DVD 1 that came with your Mac.
Insert that disc while in Windows after the Windows installation to install the drivers.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Can i download windows support software drivers from my pc into a harddrive to use on a mac

can i download windows support software drivers from my pc into a harddrive to use on a mac?

it's unclear if we are speaking about 2 computer
or if you wish to install the windows bootcamp drivers on osx
if the first then sure a zip file is a zip file
if the later then no osx and windows don't use the same drivers

  • HT4407 Is there any way to download these files manually from another source? The download from boot camp keeps stopping at around 25% and then produces the error "Can't download Windows Support Software because of a network problem". Thx!

No. This issue is dicussed here frequently. The only option is to be patient and try often. Search this forum for other posts about this issue.

  • I can´t find windows support files for boot camp

I can´t find windows support files for boot camp

    Boot Camp Assistant
If you can't download, go to Network control panel and check your settings there, look to see if there is more than one interface listed. And turn off "Auto-proxy setting" and see if that helps, it does in half the cases.
The only thing really needed would be a small Apple Software Update for Windows program to pull the drivers down while running Windows. Just that one program, which could update itself as happen with 2.0 and 2.1 version.
As it is, downloads can take 8 hrs for a tiny 620MB package. Strange. True. Been like this.

  • Can not download Windows Support Software on Bootcamp 5.0

    Hi guys,
I'm running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Bootcamp 5.0.
Recently bought Windows 7 Home Prof. and installed it already via Bootcamp.
All nice and well so far
Only when I'm trying to download the windows support software it starts with the download, but somewhere in the
middle of it stops and comes up with the message that it could not download the file.
I have tested my internet connection and it runs as usual.
    My questions are:
    1. Is there another place I can get windows support software for Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and download it manually?
    2. What's causing my problem?
    3. Is it possible to downgrade to an earlier bootcamp version if that solves the issue?
Thank you & looking forward to your ideas.!

I have the same situation, very frustrating. When I go to download the support software it stalls with the insallation bar at about 20% complete, then nothing, 20 minutes of nothing moving!
I quit after 20 minutes. What's up with "support" software that doesn't work? If support doesn't work doesn't leave much confidence in anything else.

    Thanks Bob.
    I finally got it working.
In the end what was needed was a huge amount of patience.
After about 6 attempts downloading the windows support software and burn it
To a CD, I had another 5 attempts downloading and saving the file to an external
    Memory drive.
Sometimes it got stuck at 20%
other times the download bar went to 40-50% and then got stuck with the error message.
During all my attempts I had the same network settings and I always was connected to my broadband Internet via wireless LAN.
Initial time invested was 2-3 days as the waiting always took a lot of time until the error message showed up.
I'm happy that my bootcamp windows finally has the drivers it needs,
But apple should seriously consider to check their download servers as
The next person who has to sit through this process will certainly
Not speak that diplomatic about this experience.
Try again, be patient, 20 mins is nothing.

  • Can't download Windows support software (Boot Camp Assistant)

    Hello,
I have OS X Mavericks in a early 2009 MacBook Pro unibody and I tried to install a legal copy of Windows 7 through Boot Camp Assistant.
The problem is while downloading the Windows support software to a 8 GB USB pendrive (which works fine), I obtain this message from Boot Camp Assistant:
So I can't carry on with the Windows 7 installation with Boot Camp.
I tried restarting the system and with different USB pendrives, and I obtain always the same issue.
    Can anybody help me?
    Thanks you.

I think I have solved the problem.
Looking into Apple's Support Webpage, I found this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630
Here you can download the Boot Camp Support Software for running Windows 7 for my MacBook Pro (15 inch, early 2009).
Later, I will install Windows and then install this Boot Camp Support Software and see if it works.

  • 2012 MBA 11 boot camp can't download windows support software?

I just got 2012 MBA 11 today, and I tried boot camp assistant to download Windows 7 driver, but it fails saying " Can't install windows support software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server". Is it because my MBA is too new and I need to wait for a few days, or other issue?
    Please help.
    Lu

Is is really aggravating not being able to download the drivers for my MBA 11 2012. I've managed to get the video and wireless working using the Intel drivers for the video and the Broadcom drivers for the WIFI. I am using the Lenovo drivers for WIFI:
    http://download.lenovo.com/UserFiles/Driver/en/Downloads%20and%20Drivers/G470G57 0/Updated%20Win7/IN1WLN80WW5.exe
Open the .exe file in Winzip and just take the Broadcom folder.
I hope this is fixed at Apple soon.

  • BCA  - New macbook pro - can't download windows support software

I've bought one of the new macbook pro retina 13" (with the force touchpad) and I'm trying to get windows 8.1 up and running via bootcamp.
However, i can't get the windows support software. Trying to download it via Boot Camp Assistant results in the message 'can't install the software because it is not currently available from the software update server'.
As a workaround to at least get windows installed (as directed from Apple support via chat) i downloaded the latest manually available software - Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640
this allowed me to install windows. However when windows finally booted i get the message 'this version of bootcamp is not intended for this computer model'. This also happens when i try and run the bootcamp software manaully within windows. i've also tried the support software 5.1.5621 which produces the same result.
Any ideas anyone? I get the impression the Apple server is either down, or they haven't yet put out the support software for the new macbooks.

    Hello Mike,
I've been having the same issue, tried the same steps to resolve but no joy. As of 2am (GMT) I'm happy to report that I've just been able to download the Support Software using the BCA on this rMBP 13, OS X 10.10.2. If you try the process again it should now be working. If not, I can try and upload the package to some repository for you.
Can you post the version in BootCamp.xml? It will look similar to the following...
    <BuildInfo BuildNumber="5621" ProductName="Boot Camp">
            <MsiInfo>
                    <ProductManufacturer>Apple Inc.</ProductManufacturer>
                    <ProductVersion>5.1.5621</ProductVersion>
Just checked the date on the catalog...
