How can I edit a dng in lightroom that can be viewed in bridge?

I imported my files as DNG and edited some in LR 5 (color, cropping). I thought that I was editing the data in the DNG file; but when I opened the file in Bridge none of my edits were visible. How can I make edits in one program that can be seen by the other?

You need to be aware.
a. Bridge/ACR in Photoshop read and write change to a sidecar file for raw files or to the file header for DNG,Tiff and JPEG. (the info is in the file)
b. Lightroom by default reads and writes to the Lightroom Catalog File. (the info is in the Catalog)
c. Bridge/ACR cannot read or write to the Lightroom Catalog file.
d. There is an option in Lightroom that allows Lightroom to also write to the sidecar file .xmp or to the file header in DNG, TIFF and JPEG files. This is necessary if you wish Bridge/ACR to read the info from the files.
e. If you open a file directly in Bridge/ACR those changes will be stored as .xmp data. If the file had previously been imported into Lightroom those changes will not automatically be read by Lightroom, you will probably get a warning that the .xmp data has changed. If you choose the option to update the catalog the new .xmp file will change info in the catalog.

I am new to imac and have been editing photos with iphoto 11. After editing a photo I can see the edited photo, but how can I view the original?
Also does iphoto keep all edited versions of a photo?

If you want to see the original image then hold the shift key when in edit mode.

Not exactly sure what you mean by that... with iPhoto 11, when you edit a pic nothing on the original pic is changed, and all your editing decisions are recorded in the database. Next time you view the image these decisions are applied to the image as you view it. So, iPhoto records the edit history. Subsequent edits work on the aggregrate history, or you can revert to the original and start over.
If you want to have multiple versions (say, one in in B&W, one in Sepia) then you need to duplicate the image.
Note that the versions are all virtual, based on the Master. Deleting the master will also delete the versions.

The NEF file only gives a little "nef" icon. i was able to convert the NEF to DNG on the old computer and then brought the files over to the new computer. On the old computer, the NEF files were depicted as little jpeg's so I would be able to see a picture of what each file represented. On the new computer, both the NEF files and the DNG files are depicted with icons, "nef" or "dng", but not as little pictures. On the new computer, though, I am to import the DNG's into Adobe and edit them so that is working regardless of whether or not a picture is present for the icon of each file. I've downloaded the DNG converter from Adobe and will try the conversion directly on the new computer when I get home from work. I do appreciate your responses and will let you know how it works.
I am curious then, since right now the files are represented by little "nef"'s and little "dng"'s: If I also download the viewNX (spelling might be wrong, sorry) from nikon, do you know if that maintains the file as a RAW format file but allows a picture representation of the RAW file for the icon? (That would make it easier to choose which RAW files I would choose to edit and which to not even bother with as an initial culling if that makes sense.

how can i view and apply new custom patterns without going to preset manager? i had this facility but have now lost it. i design patterns but am fairly new to photoshop. i used to be able to click on the drop down menu in patterns in the 'fill' box but cannot now do this. have i inadvertently clicked on something to turn this facility off? i now have to go to 'preset manager' and manually move my new design to the first box and click 'done' so that i can use it.

Which version of photoshop are you using?
After you define a custom pattern it should be added to the bottom of whatever patterns are already loaded.
For example, if you define a custom pattern and then go to Edit>Fill>Pattern, the newly defined pattern should have been added to the existing loaded patterns.

When the AI file was opened on a PC, the text fonts were not the same as originally created. Also, the same AI file was saved to PDF on the MAC. you ceated an archive - that doesn't mean, you imported them in iM, which is not only for editing, but for achiving too. nor into the iLife suite of apps, esp. iTunes, which is the 'media centre' on MacOS.
choose Import from Archive. in a preview window you see each 'take'. choose All or select which to import. on import, iM will create so-called Events=groups of clips defined by day of recording.
After import, iM allows to preview each clip or Event, edit them in Projects, share them to iTunes for playback on your Mac, iPad, iPod, AppleTV, YouTube, VImeo .........

There is no such thing. In CS6 only PS itself is Retina compatible. You would have to use CC for full Retina support.
