How can I edit an Adobe document that is marked doc docx?

A file with a .doc or a .docx extension is a Word document. It is not a PDF.

    hi

And even Acrobat's editing capabilities are very limited. For major edits, it's usually better to edit the original file (the one from which the PDF file was made) and produce a new PDF.
I am assuming that by "a adobe document" you mean a PDF file.

We need to find out what you actually have here. There is no Adobe Reader Pro. There is Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
With Acrobat Pro, you may be able to do some editing after running OCR. With Adobe Reader, you cannot edit.
    Which one do you have?

And what exactly? How did you scan? What "document"? What system? You need to be a lot more specific, especially since it is absolutely not clear what Adobe software has to do with it.

  • How can I have a Pages document that is shared with me under my Pages section and not open it with the link?

How can I have a Pages document that is shared with me under my Pages section and not open it with the link?

    Try this.
Open the document and select and copy a few pages, say ten pages.
Open a new blank document and paste the pages you copied into that.
Save it with a new name.
Work on those new pages to see if the problem has disappeared.
If this helps, continue breaking up the large file in to smaller chunks and working on them
You can of course later reverse the process and merge the files into one new one.
This suggestion is based on my experiences with large Word files. Breaking it up in to smaller chunks does two things. First, if there is any corruption in the old file, the new copies might escape that. Second, the Mac is faster handling the smaller chunks.

    Ahh, you're likely right, station.
If that is the case, why even bother with iOS? Doesn't Instagram let you upload on a desktop computer?
@official_knicks: Use File > Save for Web to save your open document in a format Instagram accepts. (JPEG and PNG are the formats, I think.)

  • How can I reduce an Adobe file that I load fro a CD

How can I reduce an Adobe file that I load fro a CD.
It is 10mb and is text only.
I need to send it in an email and would like to reduce it to 3 mb
    Any help is appreciated,
    Greg

OK. A couple of things. You don't really have a text file. It's a scan, so it's actually a photo of letters that isn't searchable or stored as text. I'm sure that if it was really text it could be measured in tiny KB (not MB), like a long email. If you want to convert it to real text, use some software that runs Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on it. That would result in an extremely small file for truly searchable text.
OCR software comes with many scanners but usually not with the cheapest scanners. Some shareware can do it. Acrobat can do it (the paid version not the free version).

I got it reduced to 7.9 but when I attach it to the email it shows the 10.3 MB.
That may seem bizarre but it is normal. A file must be re-encoded for network compatibility during e-mail transmission, and that causes some types of files to bloat back up. If you can, OCR it so that you are no longer trying to send a bloated scanned photo of words and letters. If you continue to try to send it as a scan, it will remain hundreds of times larger than it needs to be. If you don't have a way of running OCR on it, at least Malcolm's suggestions above will help bring it down, maybe enough to send. But the form it is in right now is a tremendous waste of disk space.

How do I convert a word document that was converted from a PDF

To convert a Word file to PDF:
    (1) Use Acrobat XI (File - Save As Other - Microsoft Word - .... )
    (2) Use Adobe's online subscription service "PDF Pack"
To cleanup a Word file created from the export of PDF page content -
Open the DOCX, DOC, or RTF with MS Word.
    Perform edits, corrections, etc (cleanup).
    Be well...

would like to edit a pdf doc. how can i do that?

It is always best to edit the source document - MS Word, for example - then create a new PDF. If the source document is not available, you can try saving the PDF as a Word document. Sometimes that works reasonably well, other times not so much. It is possible to make small edits using the Content Editing tools in Acrobat, but do not expect too much. Acrobat is not a word processor.

  • How can I burn a Word document that will be used on a PC?

    Hello,
I have to burn a Word document onto a disk for a friend who is using either PC or a Mac. It will eventually go to a publisher. I haven't burned a .doc in ages and can't remember how to do it. Do I want to use a CD-R and not a DVD-R? Also can I use Toast and choose the PC option or should I use Disk Utility? If disk utility how do I do it? I just want to make sure it will work on a PC if that is what will be used to extract it?

IT's a non-issue, assuming you have recent versions of OSx and MS Office. Just use the Finder to burn the disc. PC Word reads Mac Word just fine, with some rare exceptions.
-insert blank CD-R, because they are the cheapest, unless your Word doc is more than 700MB.
-drag .doc document into the mounted, untitled CD-R icon.
-using any of several methods (which can vary a bit depending on your OS), use the Finder to burn the CD-R. One way is to click once on the CDR icon, then go to the FInder/File menu and select Burn CD. In OSX.5.x, there are Burn commands in the window for the CDR (i.e. double click on the CDR icon for the root window).
A window should open, asking if you want to burn this disc so that any computer (Mac or PC) can read it.
edit: your Toast method you did while I was typing sounds like it should work, too.

  • How can I save a Adobe document to print duplex for other users.

I want to create a doc using Adobe and be able to set it to print duplex by other users without the user needed to go into printer settings.
All the user has to do is click print on there computer and the doc. will print duplex. The users have Adobe Reader installed.

It is possible to set a default value for the Adobe Reader or Acrobat print dialog on a document basis. After the document is created, go to Document Properties (Ctrl-D), and select the Advanced tab. Go to the DuplexMode setting. Normally, this is set to Simplex, i.e. single sided printing. You can also set it to either Duplex Flip Long Edge or Duplex Flip Short Edge depending upon your needs. Duplex Flip Long Edge is normally used for printing of “portrait” orientation content with Duplex Flip Short Edge typically used for printing of “landscape” orientation content. Then save the PDF file (typically, “save as” should be used).
Important notes: Obviously, this only works if the PDF file is being opened by one of the applications that even bothers to look at these settings. Adobe Reader and Acrobat do. Don't count on MacOS Preview or other applications to do so! Furthermore (and somewhat obviously), this setting is only observed with print devices that directly support duplex printing. And finally, this does not force the user to print duplex. It simply pre-populates the print dialog; the user can change the setting.

  • How can I edit a pdf file that was imported?

I want to edit a pdf/jpeg file that I imported/placed in AI?  Can that be done?

    Steven,
Illy just sees a bunch of pixels as do the rest of us.
You may use Image/Live Trace with suitable settings, expand, and let her work with the resulting vector artwork.
Or you may draw a (set of path(s) round the part(s) you want to keep (turning htem into a compound path in case of multiple paths, then select everything and Object>Clipping Mask>Make. That will only hide the outlying parts (unless you do the destructive deed), and you only have limited ways of (further) editing.
Or you may work in Photoshop or similar.
