How can I export files from my ipod classic and reset it without losing content and syncing it to a new library?

I'm trying to export the files that exist on an ipod classic. It belongs to my girlfriend, and she doesn't want to lose any of the music on it. But she wants to sync to a new PC and not lose the content. So, I want to export all the files and then place those files plus start a new itunes library with it. If I were to sync to my PC, would it erase all of the existing data? Can I buy/download a program that would allow me to upload all of the existing content on her ipod classic to my PC and then take that and place it back on by syncing it through her new laptop and adding the exported files....?

Your only hope is to contact a data recovery company. When it shows the connect to iTunes screen the iPod is essentially deleted.

load the current version of I tunes on the laptop and sync the pod. Then sync the phone - you can select all or as much of the music you want to.
Also - if the music on the pod was purchased from the itune store in the first place, you should be able to redownload it to the phone for free, as long as you are using the same apple id that it was bought with.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

You (or a helpful friend) may be able to extract the hard drive from the damaged computer, put it in an external drive bay and extract your iTunes library and other personal data from it. Otherwise see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

If your music collection was purchased from iTunes, you are in a good shape since that music is forever yours under your iTunes account. Therefore, after installing iTunes on your new computer, sign into your account and see all your music under "Purchsed". Then simply download it to be phisically present onto your computer (for free since you've already paid for it). On the other hand if you happens to not be a sucker to waist money on iTunes and your collection was ripped from the internet (via torrents and such), you can follow this guide to move iPod music back to computer. Let's stick with the question asked: I think it depends on who and what your relationship is to the 'family member' is and where you live. You may be unable to download the music of your husband, wife, or domestic partner (where legal) from their account to yours but that doesn't make it illegal to assert ownership. I may be wrong (and I doubt it), but music that is legally owned by you is legally jointly owned by you and your partner if you are married or in a legal domestic partner relationship regardless of whether Apple recognizes that relationship with their willingness or unwillingness to merge two i-Tunes accounts. And certainly, one NEVER has to own music to LISTEN to it.
Now some will not like that answer, but I suspect they use Microsoft products, or don't buy music from i-Tunes.

How can I copy files from one external hard drive to another, without erasing anything?

Hi,
I have video and photo files on one hard drive. I'd like to keep that one intact but also copy all the files to a second external hard drive. When I try to do so, I can't figure out how to open both hard drives at once. (If I open one, it closes the other window.)

Open a finder window and open up one harddrive. Then go to file>new finder window. This way you can have two finders up and select a different harddrive in each one. Then just copy and paste the files.

Since upgrading to the latest version, I have viewed read and interacted with everything on the What's new page. I have done this a number of times but the page is still opened each time I launch Firefox. In addition it shows my homepage in a second tab.
Prior to opening Firefox it checks for add-ons.

hello Michells, this will likely be caused by the user.js file in your profile folder.
go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information'', click on ''profile folder/show folder'' and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there delete the file named '''user.js''' and restart the browser afterwards.
