How can I export songs from my iTunes to a mail program or laptop?
How can I export songs from my iTunes to a mail program/computer? The songs in question are originals composed by my boyfriend in Garage Band. We have full rights to them, but they import into iTunes like all the other artists songs. His hard drive crashed and I have the only copies. I have no access to my iMac for 2 months while we tour our show and we need them on the tour. We are in dire straights if we can not access these songs and the iPad will not hook up to our equipment. Plus we need to add a track to a promotional video. So how can we access our own music?
Thanks. If they are in the iPad's Music app then the only way to get them out of it is by connecting the iPad to a computer. As they aren't iTunes purchases you won't be able to copy them back to a computer's iTunes via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, instead you will need a third-party program on the computer to copy them off - there are some listed half-way down this page which should work: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

How can I remove songs from my itunes library without losing them...
... on my ipod. My hard drive is full and I was wondering if there was a way to only sync new music and delete old music from my library. Thanks.
You simply have to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos". You can get details here: Managing content manually on iPod
One major word of caution. If you delete songs from your PC and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up songs you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD. Forum member Buegie has compiled a very extensive procedure for backing up your music which you'll find at this link: Backing up iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod -
How can I delete songs from my iTunes Library & Computer
I've read that you need to have your music within the iTunes media folder.
My iTunes media folder is C:\Music
My music is scattered about this folder in subfolders like C:\Music\MP3\Rock & C:\Music\Mp3\Reggae...etc yet it doesn't ask me if I'd like to send the track to the recycle bin when I delete something.
I was hoping to use the song rating system to easily identify songs I want to remove from my computer but it won't work if it only deletes the song from my library.
ThanksIf iTunes is connected to files outside the designated iTunes Media folder then it won't offer to delete them when the tracks are removed from the library. See KillSelectedFiles for a tool that can do this.
Alternatively you could consolidate your library so that all tracks are inside the media folder, but the downside with that is that you then have to hunt down the originals to delete. Or, instead of using iTunes own consolidate command, you could use my script ConsolidateByMoving.

The newest version of itunes seems to be a little more difficult to do this than past versions. I plug in my iphone to my computer and it does not allow me to "drag" songs into my iphone option anymore. Help!
The songs I am trying to get on my iphone are from CDs that I have purchased outside of the itunes store. Can I not put those on my iphone anymore?Welcome to the Apple Community.
Select the phone in the device list in iTunes, navigate to the music tab, check the music you want iTunes to sync with your phone, click the apply/sync button. -
How can I relocate songs from my Itunes? Itunes tells me that the original files can not be found! can someone help?

I can't do it that way. I erase these songs from the iTunes Library, but when I sycronize the iPhone, all these songs are copied again to the Library. Isn't there any way to stop that? Everything I buy on iTunes Store through my iPhone cannot be erased from the iPhone?
WHY can't you do it the way 100 million people do it? -
How can i transfer songs from another itunes other than mine
how can i transfer songs from another itunes other than mine
Purchases made under 1 Apple ID are permanently associated with that Apple ID and CANNOT be transferred to another Apple ID. So if you want to keep those songs, you'll need to always have access to your dad's account.

How can I transfer apps from one iTunes library to another?
How can I transfer apps from one iTunes library to another? My daughter has an iTouch, and I was managing it through my library. I have created an iTunes account for her, with a new iTouch, and would like to move the apps over. I tried to sync the old iTouch to the new library and it said it was already set up to sync with a different library. What is the best way to do this?
You can transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
To make the new computer the syncing computer you have to:
- Transfer iTunes purchases lIke I described above
- Make a backup of the iPod on that computer by connecting the iPod and then right-clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Back Up.
- Restore the iPOd from that backup
She will have to continue to use your iTunes ID to update the apps prchased with your account. To use her account she will have to log into the computer with her account (iTunes>Store) and change the sign in on the iPod by going to Settings>Store. -

I would like to purchase an ipod for my husband. Can I download songs from my itunes library to his ipod without disturbing my itunes?
Yes Deborah,
Actually it's as smiple as plugging in the iPod and registering it, this will be done by a step by step dialog box when you first plug it in. After that it will show up in your device list on the left side. Just drag the song from the music library in iTunes to the iPod device that is his. You can drag single songs, complete albums or even complete genres. If it is a iTouch you get him, you can also click the music tab on the iTouch device in iTunes when you plug it in and you can just check off artist names or just certain albums. Also on a iTouch on the summary screen you can click the sync with iTouch over Wi-Fi check box and you will no longer have to plug it to the computer to sync. Also, since they are two different devices the music on one will not affect the music on another. This goes for any iOS device, iPods, iTouches, iPhones, and iPads.
Hope that helps. -
I just bought my 3 kids iPods. How can we share music from my iTunes library without crossing over with texts, apps, etc?
Create new IDs for each by:
Create a NEW account using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before.
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
Use that Id only for:
- Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into the new one. Make sure that only that ID email address is listed.
- Settings>FaceTime sign out of your ID and sign into the new . Make sure that under You can be reached at only the new ID email address is listed
- Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with the new one
Continue to the one one common ID for Settings>iTunes and App stores. That is what controls purchases. -
How do I transfer songs from one iTunes library to another?
My husband and I each have our own iBook G4 and iPod mini's. I need to get songs from his itunes library (mostly downloaded from cd's) to mine so that I can put together a playlist for his surprise 50th birthday party. What's the easiest and quickest way of doing this?
Hi, Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I think that the fastest way is:
- connect the 2 iBooks using the Airport Extreme Card or the Ethernet
- open finder then select network and select the remote computer
- open iTunes, select your tracks and then drag them into the shared folder... that's it! You have just transfered your music to the other iBook and now you can create your playlist using iTunes.
If you don't know how to create a private network or something else, post another message... bye!
